Found on blatchat - very good watching. I would love to drive as well as he can!

Rather than embed the video, you get a bigger screen to watch if you click through to the site. The true speed is the digital readout - ignore the dial.

Can you imagine what another 100ft/lbs of torque would do to that incredible little car. My God!! The Porsche would be in his mirror on the first straight and gone.

Jeez my knuckles are white and i better take another blood pressure pill.

Great driving, I assume from the graphics the car is rented. It also looked like he had only a three point seat belt, not a harness.

I don't know what the accuracy of that G-meter is but I saw a momentary 2.01 G left turn and a couple of sustained 1.38 G right turns.

Very smooth driving in the 175 CSR -- compared to the R500 driver, who is opposite-lock and almost losing it a couple of times. Pass the blood-pressure pills!

According to the Blatchat thread, the smooth driver in the CSR 175 is Dale Lomas, who is a long-time driving instructor and demonstrator at the 'Ring. It shows.

He obviously knows that long track very well. It would be fun to see what he could do in the R500 Superlight......

Maybe these videos show that the CSR, with it's " chassis enhancements" as Caterham's

web site states are working. The R500 looks faster, while the CSR looks much more

settled down and in control. I think both cars were very well driven. And are they both

running on the same tires and powerplant ?? Good videos all the same ..

The CSR 175 is not the same powerplant as the R500. It is a fairly tame duratec of supposedly 175 FWHP. It is not well known but you can order the CSR chassis with any range of engine. So it would be well down on a R500 engine of say 260 FWHP.

Given the elevation changes of the circuit I think the advantges of IRS may be coming into play against a de dion R500.

There are so many other unknown variables that influence comparability of times:

- warmth of tires (function of weather)

- compound of tires

- width of tires

- LSD or not

- quality of the individual driver

- gearing

- etc

I was always taught that the fastest laps look the smoothest and generally do not give the sense of being fast. Low 8 minutes at Nurburgring is really fast. It may not be as exciting to look at but it is impressive to learn from.

Same guy in the 175 but view from a chase car which is a fully prepped Evo 8 with nearly 400hp.

Great demonstration of the fantastic aero handicap we have. The Evo struggles to keep up at anything below 80 mph, then basically has to coast behind the Seven at anything above 90 mph. The proverbial brick wall lies somewhere around 85 it would appear.

It would be interesting to see how much higher up you could move the wall with an aero screen, half doors and a tonneau cover.

I am really impressed with how smooth and controlled Dale Lomas looks, from front or rear... every corner set up just right, every transition smooth, calculated, and controlled, using every bit of the road.

Oh, to spend one's working days at the 'ring......

An R500 with aero screen, half doors, tonneau, and Dale Lomas at the wheel would leave the Evo for dead, I'm thinking.

In 2000, Robert Nearn lapped the Ring at 7:55 in a Caterham R500 (I assume with VX powerplant).

In the same year, Horst von Sauma lapped at 7:56, in a Porsche 911 Turbo.

The more I watch the videos (well, the ones where the driver really seems to have it together) the more I realize just how much better they are at getting everything out of the cars. When I was pushing 25 I had slower cars but was faster than I am now, pushing 65 years old in faster cars. Then, four wheel drifts were where I wanted to be, now they just warn me I'm pushing too hard for my reaction times. LOL. Still crazy fun and now I can even replace tires BEFORE they cord. Thanks for posting the Videos!.

Excellent way to start my morning! Who needs coffee:)!

Turning an 8.07 in those conditions is amazing. There was so much slow traffic and he was held up in various places due to it. All those clueless drivers who seemed to have no idea he was closing on them (sorry Mr. 'Vette, sorry Mr. 911). There were a bunch of places where he looked like he was going to get crushed by an unaware driver. And then there was the tow truck stopped on the track, pulling a car out of the woods. No warning, yellow flag, nuttin.

Sure wld like to see John Meyers over there in his winged L3 Stalker. Could he break 7:00?
