11Budlite
This car has been for sale on Ebay several times and if I remember correctly it gets up to between $19-20k, doesn't meet reserve, and is a no sale. It doesn't look like there's a reserve on it this time so it should be interesting to see how it plays out. Here's the dealers ad for the same car with the asking price of $28,995: http://www.cosmopolitanmotors.com/seattle/exotic-classic-vintage-cars/item/36-1957-lotus-xi-westfield-replica

supersportsp
Hmm, the guy I bought my car from was looking hard at this car back in late November. I wonder if he is the one who pulled the trigger. That is $10k less than what he was asking for it on his site and on Seattle Craigslist. Seems to be a pretty good buy. WestTexasS2K
I always thought one of those with a hyabusa engine would be a fun ride.
ptrxly
I had one of these in the late 80s and sold it for a TVR that had some weather protection. Now I'm back to being roofless with a Busa powered Deman Motorsports SR7. - Sold the Westfield for Cdn$9k. I wish I had kept it now that I know about bike powered cars. One issue that is difficult to overcome is that there isn't much space for decent rubber. 145-14 Michelin ZX just don't cut it. It was a blast to drive and got way more attention than my Seven. The BMC A Series motor had way more torque than I ever expected and the good aerodynamics really helped on the highway. 11Budlite
Here's the R&T article that turned me on to the Westfield Eleven: http://members.toast.net/joerger/north.html It's still a good read all these years later... Kitcat
Egan's the best! Wow, 5000 miles in a cross country trip in a car with no top and a 5 gallon gas tank: true courage.
scannon
What a great story. Peter Egan is not only a great writer he is a real, down to earth fellow. I spent 20 minutes chatting with him at LOG27 and then asked him to sign the pedal box cover on my Caterham. He didn't seem to think he was famous enough for me to want his autograph especially when I asked him to sign near where Emerson Fittipaldi had signed. It took some serious convincing to get him to do it. http://www.britishv8.org/Other/SkipCannon/SkipCannon-BC.jpg
danilo
Even Far braver than you suspect. Fuel would have been the least of my worries. It was a BMC Midget underneath that swoopy body. Not the most reliable/trustworthy collection of mechanicals produced by man. Still it reads like a good adventure. But then that's his job.. to polish such stories:-)

MightyMike
$18,350 - nice buy! I wouldn't mind finding a place for a Westfield XI in my garage.
