2013 Grizzly Bear Blat

Maybe I can convince my boss that my 60th birthday justifies a 3-4 week vacation :cooldude:

I think that is a very worthy cause! Personally I believe in having longer vacations every year - it keeps you younger!

Is the trailer you have a covered; if so you could bring it to Calgary and we can get one of the service trucks that are coming on the trip to tow it to Vancouver!

Not to dampen anyones enthusiasm but how would Gert get his trailer from Vancouver back to Calgary where I presume his tow vehicle would be staying? Best option so far is Z3Stalker's since it is a fairly easy and quick drive back to Calgary on the direct road.

If you want to trailer your seven up to Calgary you can leave it at my place. The drive back from Vancouver is only a days drive then you can trailer it back to SoCal.

Food for thought.

Stewart,

I take it you're driving back to Calgary after the event as well. Would you have room for another truck and trailer at your place?

If Gert could be talked into towing to Calgary, that would put at least three cars together for the return trip across the Rocky's. If Steve and Linda are going, that would make four cars.

I don't know if I want to drive the 600 mile stint in one day though.

Just a thought...

We could get one of our slaves to drive it for him, I'm sure a few cold beers would convince anybody :hurray:

Thanks guys for trying to boost my motivation and thanks to Steve and Linda for the invite

Not sure about the trailer. If I can drive a nice highway (vs. Interstate) I would rather do the whole trip in the Seven, something like that.

According to Google Maps it is only 4100 miles and can be done in 3 1/2 days :jester:

Hang on to that thought - that might be just what is required to get Scannon to join up on the Grizzly Blat since he needs to track along with his tow vehickle and trailer. Calling Skip to this post.....!

Because the start is in Calgary not Vancouver. Sound idea you need to come across the border near Cranbrook, Alberta.

I know Terry I was just thinking that flights would be more available to the Vancouver area (trip to the start would only be about a two day drive [975 km or 1200 miles]) and that there might be better rates for the trucking to that area than the closest major port of entry into Canada from Montana for the folks coming from the East and Central part of the US as it would be at Interstate 15 at Sweet Grass, Mt 59484 which is still about 200 miles from the start by my figures. Besides getting a flight to meet the truck to the US side of the boarder in Montana would mean getting to Great Falls or Helena first and then catching a small commuter Ross International Airport which is shared by Coutts, Canada and Sweet Grass USA at the boarder. Either way would still be fun drive for anyone doing it and still expensive.

I've been following this thread but had decided the logistics were not going to work for me and my O2 requirement.

Having someone to drive the truck and trailer from Calgary to Vancouver certainly makes it much easier for me although it would have follow us so I can replenish my O2 supply as necessary rather than just being taken directly to Vancouver.

I looked up the round trip for the truck and trailer and it comes to 3,139 miles at an estimated fuel cost of $1,130. I don't know what they are using for fuel costs or what the cost would likely be in 2013.

Its something I would like to do but cannot commit to at this point.

Bob,

Yes there is room for another truck and trailer where I live, I have a whole street to park on as I am the last house on the western edge of Calgary.

Gert the offer still stands if you decide trailer to Calgary is what you decide. As RockyMntStalker says he lives on an acreage so has lots of room also.

I'm hoping to join this one. No trailers for me, though. I expect to drive a route to and from similar to what Gert suggested (maybe even the same one--we only live a few miles apart). Hopefully I have all the weaknesses sorted for a trouble-free 4,000 miles. :-)

Thanks so very much for the offer. If I can swing doing the trip, I may just take you up on that.

It would be really nice to have a base camp in the Great White wilderness.

I would truly enjoy this trip. I just not sure if I can get off for that long. Maybe I could do part of it. I have never been to Canada and have always wanted to see it. What better way than in a 7 where you can smell it as you go. It also a guided tour true the best parts. I'm going to have to try real hard to make this trip.

This is going to be a trip to remember, I am blessed to actually live in an area where on any given day I have a spectacular view of the rocky mountains. A very short blat in the seven puts me in the foothills and real cowboy country, the visceral experience is infectious. The route planned by Terry will be a real sensory overload not to missed if at all possible... Not to mention the thrill of multiple international sevens gracing these roads. Saddle up people lets make this a run to remember. Did I mention the cameraderie of a bunch of like minded car nuts!:hurray::cheers::cooldude:

  • 1 month later...

Defiantly count me in on this one! My wife and I toured this area back in the 70’s, and have always wanted to return. What better way than in a 7 !!!

Hopefully there will be a big turnout. If there is I imagine there could be a several people looking for trailer / tow vehicle storage around Edmonton. Depending on demand, maybe one could find a storage facility that would provide space for a reasonable fee.
