Ca? Bad? You should try to register a Caterham in New Mexico! The fact that it has been continuously registered in at least two states since 1985 means nothing to NM DMV. I need to take it to the State Police for a "VIN Inspecion" and VIN assignment. Good Luck

Congratulations on getting through registration!

Following the line of "my state is worse than yours" I would still go for NM or CA over my NJ any day. Ever installed a fully compliant no faults showing OBDII wiring harness and OEM gas/PCV system on a seven?

It looks like both you and I had the "local idiot at the DMV" problem to start but thankfully both of us found someone there who actually cared and was also intelligent enough to clear it up for us.

Going to see you at any track days in the near futute? I know you like autocross but tracks with a 7 are a lot of fun too.

Great looking 7 Nick. Looking forward to reading how you get on with registering it in California.
Just got back from my second visit with the CARB referee. The 7 passed and has been issued the needed paperwork and sticker declaring it smog exempt. Tomorrow I'll go back to the DMV for what should be the final visit to get my plates.

All 500 available SB100's used to be gone in the first 3-4 hours of the year. Guess all of the backlog of kits and scratch builts have finally gotten plated and the general state of the economy, although getting better, has put the skids on new builds.

I really hope it isn't a sign that a large part of the younger generations who have grown up with cars that only a dealer or fully equipped shop has the electronic test equipment and special tools to work on haven't been lost to the specialty car/hot rod ranks.

Joke all you want about hairdressers driving Miata's but they probably allow more "underfunded" young (and older) people to get into the fun of racing/track days than any other car ever built. I wish they and all of the different ways to get onto a real racetrack without breaking the family budget had been around when i was younger.

Glad to hear you got such a low SPCNS number. I just bought a Caterham and it should arrive in a couple weeks. I thought it would be parked for 6 months. From what I've heard from Caterham USA is that the state will only allow you to get an SPCNS number as an individual now, and they cannot be transferred. This keeps the builders from monopolizing the system and getting all the numbers. Apparently, in the past, the numbers were all gone in hours, but many actually went unused. Sounds like the system is now working to some degree.
