Wanted: inexpensive turnkey car

Looking for an inexpensive turnkey car, hopefully one with a 25+ year old title already sorted. I was building a Miata powered locost but really didn't have time to seriously work on it.

I'd prefer a four cylinder car over other options and would like to keep the budget under $10k. Could stretch slightly more for an exceptional car (or maybe a real S4) but I'm really just looking for a toy to bomb around town in... so a low spec car will suit me just fine. Prefer a "classic" look.

In Frederick, MD so east coast is a bonus, but I'm willing to travel for the right car (keeping in mind that travel/transportation costs figure in to that $10k ceiling)

Thanks!

Bill

Actually I've already received a couple of leads (and from perusing past Ebay sales and classifieds it doesn't loo like what I'm asking is too unusual... just nothing seems on the market at the moment in the US... in the UK sub $10,000 cars are the norm rather than the exception)...

I just don't expect a late model factory built car with 200hp or something that would be at home at the SCCA nationals....

Looking seriously at one car but it's got a little more engine and weight than I was looking for... so still soliciting leads.

thanks!

Bill

Not really... I'm figuring more on a Kent, A4G-E, or at best a Miata Locost build... so about half that amount of power and likely a bit more weight since most seem to be built on +442 chassis these days... like I said a fairly low spec car.

I'm under no misconceptions about what a high spec car is worth... that's just not what I'm currently looking for.

I have a 1997 Sprint, Crossflow, 4-speed, live-axle, RHD, 12,000 miles that I plan to post on the forum shortly. It is a very nice basic traditional Caterham. I am in Northwestern PA. I am looking for twice what you state you want to spend. If you have an interest let me know and I will email photos.

So, like the original poster, I'm looking for something I can just drive away with. My budget is around $20k as I'll be selling my bimmer to make it happen. I think that should get me into a low-to-mid spec car. Four cylinders would be great as long as I can slap on a turbo in a year or two if my budget allows.

Mainly, I just want something for open top motoring on the weekends or the occasional drive to work. But I'd like to the ability to take it a track maybe once or twice a year.

I think my biggest issue will be that I have long legs, so the seats need to be kind of far back. I'm 6'6" but my inseam is only 34" -- width is not a problem as I'm pretty narrow-framed.

I'm in Houston, I'd prefer to stay local. I can drive to just about anywhere in TX and am willing to wait until I find Texas car.

Maybe I'm being completely unreasonable, if so, tell me!

I have been lurking on this thread, and I decided to let you guys know I think I will sell Goldie. She is an amazing car with a distinguished history, but I want to finish some other projects (and start a few) and I don't have enough room these days.

Aront, Goldie sounds like it would fit your requirements better then most 7's, as the S2k-R has a bigger cockpit and more leg room.

If you want a 2nd opinion on Goldie, WestTexasS2K knows the car, you can ask him.

Others around the group know the car as well, or pick up the Feb. 05 issue of Kit Car Builder. She was on the cover, and they did a good article about the car.

Goldie is regestered and inspected in Texas, so it is ready for the street as well as the track.

She also comes with a taller windshield that can be installed rikker!

FYI, I'm in the Dallas area (Waxahachie) and will be glad to pick you up at the airport if needed.

Visit my web site to check it out. There are photos and videos of Goldie, the wife and I, along with WestTexasS2K running around the Texas Hill Country.

Thanks for your time.

The SWMBO say’s "4 se7ens are too many for me to have while her car sits outside.” My # 152 is almost ready to hit the street. I must pare the collection by at least one. My beloved #16 Brunton Stalker will have to find a new home.

Incredible torque, the car pulls hard from just over idle to redline.

More fun to drive than anything.

Believe me I would keep this car if I could.

10XX, best to open a separate thread at the for-sale section of this Forum if you are trying to market your Stalker (wh/looks great/ditto price).

What are your other 3 se7ens? Looks like one is a Stalker.
