Speed will Lose F1 Coverage to NBC after this Season

I will be perturbed if we lose live coverage of qualifying and the races. Really don't care what happens to Speed, which has turned into a lot of crappy shows and NASCAR, NASCAR, NASCAR....

How can the interest in F1 grow in this country if we lose the Speed Channel. We now have a F1 race in the USA this year and sounds like two next year. Who will broadcast Daytona 24 live and Lemans . Speed is not perfect, but it seems coverage will get worse before it gets better.I'll have no tears with the loss of Pass Time and Chop-Cut-Rebuild, and if I never see highlights from a Cup race thats very OK with me.

I will miss WindTunnel on Sunday night... Bye Dave.....

Its ok Steve. Come to my work office, I have 4 secretaries in a row outside it. They may not be called Dave but its definitely a wind tunnel as they blow a lot....

If NBC dumbs it down any more than Speed did, I'm going to be forced to explore ways to get foreign coverage. FOX's coverage was nauseating and I have a bad feeling about NBC...

I'll reserve judgement, but doesn't bode well after the Olympics coverage where almost everything was tape delayed and edited. Will NBC really show the races live and uncut? 1.5 hours of Paralympics coverage suggests not... I really hope I'm wrong!

Also I hope they keep the Speed commentary team kept in place (could live without Bob Varsha to be honest, but I like the rest).

The first announcement about this NBC Sports Network deal from Autoweek back on October 15th (which I can no longer find) contained the following statements:

NBC will air four races--the Canadian Grand Prix in June, and the final three races of the season in November--while the remaining 16 races will air on NBC Sports Network. All practice and qualifying sessions will also be on the cable station.

Miller said the intent is to broadcast everything live, but the network is working through a small number of scheduling conflicts. All 20 races will be live streamed on NBC Sports Group's live-stream platform.

So it appears there is a chance that at least some of the races will be broadcast live. However, I think the first statement in bold above is simply a poor choice of words; I doubt they will actually broadcast all of the practice sessions, live or delayed.

edit - Great to read about Hobbs and Matchett calling the races!
