Croc
There was a Caterham in the list that did a 2:11 That's pretty fast. It was Pete Challinor. From memory he runs a dark green zetec seven same engine spec as yours. When I last saw his car in 2009 it was running ACB10 tires. Croc has more experience in testing the rotational characteristics of the car...
HOTTTCAR
Croc You are right Pete's car is fast but was in the next class group down from John's Stalker. Pete is an amazing driver but the long straights at VIR weed out the lower HP cars. A couple of years ago Pete and John were at Cresson and had a pretty much private race till the track nazi ended the session early (as he told the corner workers ) before they kill each other. It was fun to watch. Gale
snookwheel
We have a Brunton Super Stalker, I have never tracked it, but done a good number of Autocross events (taking FTD a good number of times.. as long as a well driven LeGrand Dragon doesn't show up!) I can speak about the street friendliness of it. it is a very easy car to drive around town, and only becomes a beast when you want it to. The best part is the cheap easy availability of parts, NAPA or any chain parts store has just about anything you need. I just replaced rear brake cylinders for aroun $9.00 each With a more than ample amount of torque is available from 2500 rpm up, there is no reason to have to push the engine hard. Just make sure you have a little spare time where ever you go, you get a lot of questions from other folks wherever you stop. I fashioned a removable hard top for relief from the Florida sun, but I only use it when we take longer trips or heading to an Autocross. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/snookwheel/Gainesville2010.jpg with the Munster Mobile top http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/snookwheel/image-2.jpg Pop top http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/snookwheel/image-5.jpg Edited February 25, 2013 by snookwheel hating my ipod... S1Steve
Back on track.... Lol I'd say you have to shop around and see, sit in, drive if you can, every kind of 7 you can get you hands and eyes on. They are all great on the track. big HP or small. the fun factor is huge... Enjoy the the ride... Steve
MichaelD
the 2:11 was Pete. It is a Zetec Caterham DeDion with a Dunnell 247 HP motor and I think he was on Hoosier Bias Ply slicks. Pete may still be a distributor as Circle 'C' Performance. It is fast and Pete is a very good driver. He made my 216 Hp car seem slow. http://www.dunnellengines.com/zetec_engines.php

crewst
Looks like BCX has a meet this coming Saturday. Any chance there'll be any 7's there? I'm almost certain to have my Superformance there. As far as I know, my morning does not involve any commitments other than the meet. BTW Steve, I discovered that even topless at 17 degrees, it's still fun to drive. Previous record was "only" 28. jeffs
Having just gone through this process, I'm going to 2nd (or is it 4th, 5th or 6th?) the recommendation to sit in and ride in as many cars as you can. If it wasn't for Croc's willingness to show me his car, I probably never would have gotten my r500. Maiden voyage was yesterday BTW, and other than the sub-freezing temperatures went really well. Figured out the wind chill was -10 with the aeroscreen, but was worth it nonetheless. My car isn't going to make it back to NJ for a couple of weeks, but happy to give you a ride if you are interested.
