Jackal Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Hi everyone, I wanted to poll everyone for where they got their roll bar brake lights. I searched a bit on USA7s, and couldn't find a good reference thread. In the hopes of creating a master thread on the topic for future reference, I started this. If your up for it, post a link to where you bought the brake light, and a picture for reference. In future it could help many more than just muself. This all stemmed from my recent search for a roll bar mounted third brake light and the challenges of finding a light that suits the Birkin and the lid for it.

This all stemmed from my recent search for a roll bar mounted third brake light and the challenges of finding a light that suits the Birkin and the lid for it. This is a good idea. I'd like to find one. There is an older thread on this topic. I had the perfect 3rd brake light on my old Birkin. I got it at one of the local auto parts stores, but I don't remember which store, or which brand. It was a common thing at the time, but these things have since almost disappeared. Here's the one I had, mounted upside down and with the "legs" removed: http://usa7s.com/vb/picture.php?albumid=60&pictureid=438 http://usa7s.com/vb/album.php?albumid=60&pictureid=438
yellowss7 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) I used the clear lens one on the right. It does light up red when you hit the brake pedal. http://www.etrailer.com/comparison.aspx?pc=STL80RB&pc2=STL89RCB Tom Edited April 11, 2013 by yellowss7
Jackal Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 This is a good idea. I'd like to find one. There is an older thread on this topic. How did I not find that thread? I searched for it. I think the light you have is the style I'll end up settling on, as it rests under the roll bar, and not on top. Thanks to you both in humoring me and kicking off the thread, lets keep it going. :smash:
scannon Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 From that prior thread the Wolo LBT-10 seems to be the one of choice but when I clicked on the link I got an encaged shop light. Looking around on the Wolo page didn't yield any results either. Can someone post a link to it?
Z3 Stalker Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Duane, I picked up a couple of these at Princess Auto:- http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8434250/Tail-Lights/19-3/4-in.-Slim-line-LED-Stop/Turn/Tail-Light-Bar Stewart
Jackal Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 Duane, I picked up a couple of these at Princess Auto:- http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8434250/Tail-Lights/19-3/4-in.-Slim-line-LED-Stop/Turn/Tail-Light-Bar Stewart I like the look of those lights, but they would require bodging to work on the Birkin I think. They are meant to be mounted against the back of the rolll bar. Unfortunately that means they would get in the way of the lid when it's on. I could mount those lights under the bar, but would have to fabricate an L bracket to hold it there, and it may not have the finished look I'm going for.
wemtd Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 has several examples. The best price was through Amazon but required searching for the custom dynamics item#. So far i'm very pleased with my installation which made for a good weekend project: 1) drill two 1/8" holes on either end of LED for wires. 2) Feed wires down both sides. realize this is inconvenient. rearrange wires through roll bar to both come out driver side. spend an inordinate amount of time finding the right size weatherproof connectors. 3) solder all wires together so the connectors align and fit through the hole beneath my roll bar. 4) connect to wiring harness - And bob's your uncle.... please post your results when your done.
