xcarguy
I always looked down my prominent nose at the several clones, including Stalker, S2K and others. Now I know better. Yep. That did it . . . now I'm really 'parsed' off! :cuss: Sorry, Bruce K, couldn't resist. Just trying to add a little humor to all of this. :smilielol5:

rnr
Odd that you make these disparaging statements. In your earlier posts and blogs, you noted that the R500 was only able to gain distance on your S2K in the straights. You even provided video evidence, which I viewed. You concluded that the lighter weight of the Caterham enabled it to out-accelerate your heavier S2K in the straights. You proffered that you would need more power to catch the R500, which seems reasonable. Your post, blogs and video are part of the reason for my position: that with additional offsetting power (such as head, cam and fuel management work), the R500 and S2K should run evenly. I am not knocking the WCM S2K - just stating my opinion that the S2K will need non-trivial addition of power before it is as fast as an R500. My S2K tops out at 125 and will likely need another 40-50 hp to reach the R500s supposed top speed of 150. That kind of NA power increase in an F20C will be hugely expensive and that is discounting the other chassis items you may(will?) have to re-engineer to get to a fast and reliable track car. The WCM is cheaper and a great bargain but IMHO the R500 is also an excellent bargain for the relative "out of the box" performance it can acheive. To put it in computer terms I would say the S2K is Linux to the R500s OS X - it is cheaper and more customizable if your time is free.
rnr
Was that the Caterham RS Levante? The black car 2.4 liter Hayabusa-derived race motor and the quad headlights? I wasn't aware that RS built more than one. Are there pix anywhere? Not a levante - it was a regular caterham that the owner put the RST V8 in. There is a NA V8 CSR under construction in San Diego right now, the owner expects to put down 400 hp.

GPS verified 125 mph at ~8k rpm in 5th gear. This was over multiple (15+) laps on the front straight at Pacific Raceway. I wanted to do a few runs in 6th but had a mechanical before I could get around to it. I do have a cage and a full halo seat which will affect aero but I'd be very curious to see what other folks are getting.

Does anyone have a good shipper (covered/enclosed) that they can recommend? Any that I should avoid? Thanks for everyone's help again! just used passport for shipping my backdraft to new york. they have laudable equipment and personnel. to locate transport, search the internet for "auto transport". this will put you in touch with brokers. vet those brokers for bad feedback, etc. then choose a couple to bid the transport for you. specify to the brokers (who work with and know many small and large transport companies) that you want a company with a good reputation, a covered transport, bonafide insurance and the lowest rate possible. your cost will be less if you allow more time for the transport, as that allows the broker to include more pickups and deliveries along the way. I am sure that you will enjoy the car. Feel free to ask for help on anything, but generally they don't need much maintainence. The Honda drivetrain is bulletproof, and the car is very sturdy. jimrankin
First: Glad to have another new S2K owner in the group. Conversed with him in private message and he sounds like he will be a great owner for this car, a get it out and drive it guy. On the top speed; I'm running a 3:70 something rear gear, I think RNR's is probably about 4:10, not sure just what Subaru had out there but will find out as I have the differential chapter from Subaru on disc somewhere and it probably has the specs. I have had the car to 125 (indicated, as no GPS on board) running Thunderhill "backwards" where you get to enter the main straight from a slightly down hill sweeper so you carry a lot of speed in. Due to my gear ratio I was no where near red line in 5th and still picking up speed by the end of the straight but I could tell it was near the "aero wall" as the acceleration was slowing rapidly and the straight was running out quickly. Might be one of those cases where the only way to find top speed is to risk a very nasty ticket out on an open section of Highway 5 with a GPS unit on board. RNR's car is MUCH quicker than mine with his lower gearing but I think that we both will be pretty close on top end due to just simple mathematics of power to drag. Unfortunately we seem to have quite a bit of both. Having driven a stock S2000 I can say that once your over 100 MPH by a bit the S2000 seems to pick up speed (only got to 120) as fast as the 7 and would probably get well past 125 with a bit of room. Less aero, same power. Better keep your garage door locked RNR, I'm eyeballing that spare 4:11 dif you have stashed. ;-)

Hi Bruce! Sadly, I just checked my inbox now and only have Jim and my chats. I'd love the information still, if you have it! You can also send it my way to webmaster at liquidearth dot org via email. I've filled out a few online shipper quotes already, but I'll have to get more done tomorrow and this weekend. The bank/post office took absolutely forever... both said workers had called in sick. That's not the first time though. Maybe I should use up all my sick days when the Seven comes in? xD Ttys! Jason

cobra
Congrats - where are you based? If you are going to track the car the car you should consider putting a diff brace in the back just to be safe. Hi RNR. I'm located in Northeast Georgia. For the most part, the winters are short here and the weather is great. The summers can be quite hot during/around July, so I might look into putting a bikini top on it. Will check with WCM about that. I might try out autocross once or twice, but 99% of the time it's for weekend driving. Before I do anything seriously stressing on turns, I'll check out that differential brace. Thanks!
