plbs1234 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 My car is a 1986 Caterham with clamshell front fenders. This coming winter I want to repaint the car. My fiberglass parts are a little ragged and stress cracked and I'd like to replace them with new parts. Who is the best source to find a new nosecone, front wings, and rears wings for this car? Thanks, Paul
plbs1234 Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 I've had no response to the above inquiry. Can anybody give me some guidance? Should I go to Caterham USA or does someone else source these parts? Thanks, Paul

Thanks, Paul Paul, I'll chime in; have you considered/researched the cost of repair/restoration to the existing parts vs. buying new? Without seeing photos, the stress cracks may be nothing more than cosmetic (paint). Even if not, FG is fairly easy to repair. Just a thought before you drop a bunch'a coin on something you may not need.
yellowss7 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I agree with Shane, a small dremel burr, and some fiberglass resin and you can simply grind away the cracks, then fill in and sand. Takes a little patience, but is really easy to do. I did a set of race clams that were really beat and they came out great. Tom
wemtd Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Paul. Seeing that you are in Idaho you may be out of luck because the first place to go is your local boat yard / fiberglass repairer. You can also find a lot of information online, and order all the necessities, from West Marine. I don't know if you can get replacement clams from Caterham? There is always the second hand route from another member here . If none of these thoughts are helpful you could get in touch with Kinetic Vehicles. Jack makes a lot of fiberglass parts including clams. However I don't know if these would be an exact match for your parts. cheers p. Edited July 24, 2014 by wemtd
yellowss7 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Paul is spot on. I went to a local West Marine and picked up the stuff they recommended to do the job. They do a nice little kit that contains the stuff you need without buying quarts of the stuff. Tom
plbs1234 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks guys. Your input is very helpful. I'll take a serious look at the repair route. Best regards, Paul
breezy7 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I don't know anything about these guys but they have been mentioned on the forum in the past. http://www.kineticvehicles.com/index.html and http://www.facebook.com/pages/Curtis-Unlimited/163756193652207
