MNlotus
well as i knew this was gonna take a long time, i am now trying to get an estimate from my shop and they are looking for the best shop that works with aluminum. They said the back panel can't be replaced and they would have to stretch the aluminum. He also said it will probably never be perfect like it used to be. Do you guys agree? TurboWood
Why not ask for a full new chassis from Caterham? That will ensure perfection and isn't that terribly expensive. The labor to swap it would be pricey, but not crazy. Daniel
Paul Hill
Or skip the middleman and go right to Arch Motors. A good friend of mine had a shop in Toronto repair his '62 Lotus S2 after an suv backed over the front corner, looked good as new. They completely reskinned the car. Will get their info if anyone needs it.
bigdog
yes i will consider this, the brake light on the bar would help with safety. Its scary that that her bumper was only two feet away from my head…. And her brain was well beyond two feet from her head.
rikker
If you are insured you should get the car back right or equal compensation, sounds to me like you are dealing with a clown.
Croc
This is scary....really scary....but I agree with Rikker. :iamwithstupid: You pay good money for insurance to restore your car back to original condition. You are in accident that is not your fault. Why compromise? You need to find the right repairer that can help you fix your car properly. It may be more hassle than you want to deal with in which case short cut to your heart's content. But if I was in your shoes I would be finding a better repairer. Paul Hill
Croc and all... That was the mindset behind my buddy trailering his S2 to a proper expert in Toronto. Not a cheap solution but the car is now as perfect as ever courtesy of the guilty party's insurance company.

Caterham sells the back section (right behind the firewall). It means the shop needs to cut off the rear, weld in the sides right above the wheel wells, and re-roll the aluminum around the frame tubing. We did this on the blue car and in the end, you could not see anything. It looked brand new.
