Just noticed that the weather report for Gettysburg for Friday 10/8-Monday 10/11 is zero (0) percent chance of rain, all 4 days. Lows in the mid 40's, high in the upper 60's, and sunny. Of course , weather predictions are like stock market predictions, but it is an encouraging sign. Especially for those of us who wld prefer to leave the rain tires off and the top and doors at home.
  2. All great additions to this post! Not slighting any as they are all keepers, but GBolt's is especially striking to me, MoPho is peerless, of course, and pretty women and Se7ens can not be topped.
  3. Thx Jon. Offset?
  4. I am toying with adding a set of dedicated rain tires on a set of new wheels for my clamshelled '97 Caterham. GRM has a nice article comparing various rain tires this month, so the tire part is easy. My search here has not shown any definitive data on specs for my 15" Prisoner wheels. They are 15 x 7, 4 bolts. Does any one know the bolt circle, bolt size, offset, etc., and anything else I wld need to order a set from TireRack? Any wheel recommendations? (something that has already been tried and works? No reason to reinvent the wheel, cough, cough). I love my nearly bald Toyo RA1s but will have a trip of approximately 1500 miles for LOG 30 and if there is any serious chance of rain, I don't want to try the trip on bald tires (great in the dry/frightening ion the wet). I do have a modest budget so cost is a factor. Thx, Mike
  5. I wonder what the "Supersprint bonnet" is? More vents? 5 sp to 4 sp seems unlikely, but who knows?
  6. Oh, it's definitely purple!!!!
  7. I recently used WD 40 to take off a ton of tar that my car got into-use it liberally, let it soak overnite, add more, then wipe off.
  8. It is truly amazing how much difference a talented driver makes. What a great story! Mike
  9. I don't think the government is forcing you to buy expensive health care-I think you are allowed to buy the least expensive you can find. But ya gotta have something. It's sort of like car insurance in Ohio, if you don't have it, you don't drive. Pretending you will never get sick or injured (and then heading to a super expensive ER when you do-and where the rest of us are paying your freight thru higher premiums) isn't much of a solution.
  10. I have Toyo RA1's (naturally shaved) on my Cat and have no trouble sliding them. Maybe go faster:)?
  11. I have had sizable road rash to my rear fenders since moving to RA1's as my street tire. Price of admission, I guess. Also the best improvement to the car's performance to date, easily better than all other improvements put together. Mike
  12. He was 3rd at the Ultimate Track Car deal, his top speed there was 170 mph. With a pretty minimal roll cage.

Dean: I got my confirmation letter too. The schedule of events, and the LOG website, list a bunch of tech sessions, early Saturday, but no details. Is there any way of knowing ahead of time what the various topics will be at the different sessions? Also, I see there are still spots available for the trackday-Come on Se7en owners, here's the prefect chance to open up your car, and take its measure. Mike
  14. As a car guy, I gotta go w/Motown.
  15. I sold my Evo VIII and bought a Caterham. I have put 13K miles on in just over 3 years. I use it as my daily driver in good weather/daylight. I liked both cars a lot, but as a daily driver, the Evo is much better. It has a locking trunk, all weather protection, is quiet, has a radio, a back seat, etc. It is apples and oranges because the visceral thrill of driving a se7en, to me offsets all of its short comings. It wldnt work if I didn't also have several more practical cars to drive as needed (T-Bird, M3, Prius). The Stalkers are amazing and a great LISS option. Mike
  16. Congratulations! What a course: the world's 2 longest slaloms, connected by a single right hand turn. The course design is dictated by the site, so not much they could do.
  17. Who here, besides me, has signed up? Which configuration are we running (Shenandoah?). If so, it looks very challenging/wonderful. Who has a link to a video of the the course at speed? The course itself has a kind of lame video of a large Ford Crown Vic ambling around but it really doesn't show what the course is like when driven on the edge. Dean-the forms require a mechanic or garage to sign off on the tech form regarding track worthiness-what do folks (like the majority of Se7en owners ) do who do their own wrenching? Can they sign off themselves? Mike
  18. twobone: How did you "seal" the oil filler cap? Do you have the type (as I do) that does not screw in but just squeezes in?
  19. On the majority of Se7ens I see there, the driver's and or passengers head(s) were above the roll-over bar. They wldn't pass tech at a typical track day here. Nonetheless, it looks like huge fun and a great day.
  20. I do exactly as Pi7ot does. But, I think auto-x, wh/I have somehow never done in my Cat, wld be a great starting place to learn the car-you already discovered it pushes. Most Se7ens seem to have over-steer, not under-steer (pushing), and the common cure seems to be to add wider real tires. You have the opposite problem. Understeer can be fixed with a stouter front roll bar (wh/makes the rear stick better), or a smaller rear bar-same effect. Maybe you just need an alignment? Tire pressures can be used to fine tune grip. Drop some out of the fronts (in 2 lb increments) and see if that helps. Upgrading your tires to something with more grip wld not remedy the push problem as the issue seems to be imbalance between front and rear grip. I run 205 Toyo RA1's all around and the car balance as set up is perfect: I can steer with the throttle and the steering wheel and get the car to do pretty much what I want, within limits. Mike
  21. Hopefully the weather report is favorable, enjoy. I blasted into work this a.m in my se7en, with the exhaust echoing off the houses and buildings, and the tail totally hung out on some my favorite curves, my ears are still ringing! It never gets old! Mike
  22. Hey, Westtex,I'm shooting for 40 centuries:)!
  23. I have a friend who says people are like plants, they need to be re-potted every 10 years or so, or their roots bind up and they stop growing. As a lawyer, I have switched thru a variety of legal specialties over my nearly 40 decades of lawyering, and that has helped me find work enjoyable. I can say I have fun doing what I do. On the other hand, my ex-partner resigned and went to full to time retirement as soon as he inherited the $ to do so. We both did exactly identical jobs, he was miserable, I was thrilled. Four years later he is the happiest person I know, just walkin the dog, watering the plants, puttering and more puttering. What makes one person happy is not necessarily going to work for the next guy. Self employment is ideal in my opinion: No bosses, no meetings, no absurd rules/orders. But you soon discover that you have a slave driver for a boss-the upside is that if you are doing what you want, it doesn't feel like work, which is good because I have been working 60-70 hour weeks for 25 years . So I guess change is good, tho challenging (terrifying). When I opened my law practice, I likened it to diving into an empty swimming pool in the hope that by the time I landed, there would be water there. Luckily, thru endless hours of work, there was. Mike
  24. Steve that's right, 10 year old tires, plus I had a cough, my socks didn't match and my helmet was too tight!
  25. Steve: Ouch:)! (But so true!). Hey I was running on the notorious Michelin "pileups". I never had a chance:). My car was built with a Petronix distributor, not sure about its advance potential. Mike
