1. I always look forward to hearing about and seeing the photos of your 4th of July track event at NJMP. A huge effort by Mike and Tom to coordinate it all. Sorry to miss watching all the fun up close and personal once again. One day, one day.......
2. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11152&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11153&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11154&stc=1 The LOG36 Committee once again spent another full Saturday to review all the planning details for LOG36. Did we mention we have so many cool things that are unique to a LOG that you don't want to miss any of it? We have almost 200 people arriving on Thursday......they are arriving a full day early and know something special is going on ;-) You will note in the photo below that Lou is presenting the fine details of the android and iPod apps that have everything you could ever want to know about LOG36 on them. The release will be right before LOG36, you wont be able to live without the apps! VOLUNTEERS! We have more than half of the number registered volunteers we need! What are you waiting for? Don't be left out of the highly sought after volunteer crew. Once we have the number of people needed we will be closing out the registered volunteers. They are the only ones who get the very special and limited edition LOG Guru shirts, not to mention special goodie bags filled with swag and the ultra cool volunteer lounge. You can volunteer in 2 hour increments. Don't be left out, contact Lee Klauber . He can get you in ;-) Did we mention the very limited edition LOG36 River Horse beer that will be available only at LOG36? Wait until you see the specially designed Lotus labels for three different types of beer. We can't wait for you to taste them, collect them and maybe even bring some home. Limited supply, only at LOG36! Friday and Saturday night at the host hotel, The Marriott Princeton Forrestal is almost sold out. Don't delay for the Lotus event of the year!
3. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11132&stc=1 LOG36 – SOONER THAN YOU THINK! August 5th – 7th, 2016 Hello all Lotus owners and enthusiasts, Are you counting the days until LOG36? We are! The LOG36 committee has a great weekend planned for all the registered participants who will be coming. As a matter of fact, close to 200 LOGers will be checking into our host hotel, The Marriott Princeton Forrestal on Thursday, a full day before LOG36 actually starts! There are still a few (and we mean only a few) rooms available for Friday and Saturday night. Don’t delay your booking. The second deadline date for Lotus Ltd registration is June 17th to receive the $125 registration fee. After that it goes to $175. Your postmark date is the deciding factor on how much you pay for registration. Remember, you must book your hotel room and register with Lotus Ltd separately. Speaking of postmark date, the earlier you register the better your seating is for the Saturday night banquet and the early arrival for Grounds for Sculpture on Sunday morning (no moaning that you didn’t get the banquet room seating you wanted or couldn’t arrive early for Sunday mornings event). We have so many special things planned it will be hard to keep up with everything going on. A couple of insights: · We will have “special editions” of Riverhorse Beer at LOG36 that features Lotus historic events on the labels. You will want to collect all three types and as well as enjoy this local crafted beer which is only available at the bars during LOG36. · A very special book is being published by Corterie Press just in time for LOG36. “Dahlstrom: Lotus The Adverts”. It will be signed by its creators and the artist at LOG36. We are sure you will want to purchase several copies of this very limited signed book. · There will be a swap meet during the Friday night reception. If you have Lotus parts, collectables, clothing, etc. we will provide a table for you to display and sell your items. Contact Foster Cooperstein to register in advance at fjcoop@aol.com · Volunteers, we still need a few more. The special goodies you will receive as a volunteer will be sought after by everyone else at LOG. Become a LOG Guru! Contact Lee Klauber at mablung@comcast.net Keep checking the LOG36 website for weekly updates. We can’t wait to see you! The Road Scholar LOG36 Committee
4. The LOG36 committee is on overdrive regarding creative ideas for Princeton LOG. You don't want to miss this LOG!
5. Nomad Pizza in Hopewell is the best, plus it's a great drive from the hotel on country roads. It's a BYOB place, but there is a liquor store within walking distance for beer and wine. The place fills up early on Friday and Saturday nights. I typically put my name on the wait list when I arrive, and then relax in the garden and have a drink of whatever I brought. Great place and fantastic pizza (not a by the slice place, personal pies are made here). The best bakeries in Princeton are: Terra Momo Bread Company and Chez Alice Cafe & Bakery. Best brewery in Princeton is Triumph Brewery on Nassau Street.
6. Greetings to all our fellow Lotus owners and enthusiasts! We are two and a half months away from The Lotus Owners Gathering 36 (LOG36) in Princeton, New Jersey August 5th thru 7th and do we have a great weekend planned for everyone who participates. The LOG36 planning committee continues to come up with all sorts of creative ideas for this LOG and we are excited about everything we have planned. A very important date to be aware of is MAY 20th! It's the last day for early registration and you will save $25 for registering now. After a postmark of May 20 it will cost you $125 to register. Don't delay, get your registration in the mail today. More importantly, early registration has privileges this year. Saturday night banquet seating selection and early entry into Grounds for Sculpture Sunday morning will be based on post mark dates of registration. Another important consideration is the booking of your hotel rooms. We are very close to selling out Friday and Saturday night and so far we have more than 200 people who are arriving on Thursday night. Looks like LOG36 will have an early start! Don't delay on securing your hotel room at the Princeton Marriott Forrestal. In case your a late planner or just can't commit, we do have an overflow hotel down the street (Westin Hotel) but remember, registration goes up to $175 after June 17th. We expect this LOG to have significant participation. You may never see this many Lotus' in one place again! Keep up to date on all the most recent news and information by checking the LOG36 web site on a regular basis. Join us, we are looking forward to a wonderful weekend with all our Lotus friends. 7. [h=2]Hi everyone, not Seven related but a couple of you that I know seem to like my car related videos so I thought I would post. A guy I know has a bunch of Alfa's decomposing in the woods. I thought they would make an interesting subject for a short video, so on Christmas Eve day when it was 70 degrees and drizzling I packed up some video equipment and spent a couple of hours shooting a few cars. There are more, but I ran out of time. Will go back to shoot the rest.[/h]
8. Mike, thanks for the support of Princeton LOG36 ! We are planning a great weekend and look forward to all Seven variants participating. Your annual track day is icing on the cake prior to LOG36 and we are happy to promote it.
9. I'm smiling 'cause I find Croc's comments to be spot on! He has the knowledge, experience and insights to provide his commentary with accuracy and just a bit of attitude that is usually well deserved. Keep it up Croc, your keeping everybody honest!
10. We are researching the viability of conducting a track day and/or auto cross in conjunction with LOG 36. There are several considerations. The cost of renting a track in the North East is considerable and the number of people that actually commit to a track related event is usually too small to cover costs. The distance to travel to a track worthy of running Lotus are relatively long. And Lotus Limited has run a track day at Watkins Glen for the past two years. If that event is repeated it will be only 1 month prior to LOG. However, we have a committee established to determine the financial viability of have a track and/or Autocross event and if it is determined to be feasible we will update our web site and a make a public announcement. Glen & Kyle Co-Chairman LOG 36
11. Hi everyone, we want to make a big welcome to the USA7's members to attend LOG 36 in Princeton NJ. As some of you know, we have a personal like for 7's and have a number of friends on this forum. Here is the website: http://www.lotusownersgathering36.com/ Watch to video to get an overview of the area and things to do. We will be updating the site regularly with new information as we move forward. Our expectation is that this LOG will sell out quickly due to the location. The host hotel has 302 guest rooms, we advise making your reservations early! Glen & Kyle LOG 36 Co-Chairman
12. Tom, Your yellow 7 and my BRG Elan are the perfect Lotus color combo!
13. Seven's are very welcome to attend LOG36 in Princeton! Any variation and build. We purposely had two types in the video (thanks Croc and Ted Taylor) to show our desire to have as many Seven's as possible participate in LOG 36. A number of you on this site know my fondness for your cars :-) Glen Co-chairman LOG 36
14. I don't own a Seven but hang with a bunch of great guys at NJMP who all own at least one. So I hope you don't mind my comments. Shane I really hope your recovery goes well and in a year or so it will all be a distant memory. Your exacting recall and support documentation of the accident is very detailed. Clearly you have thought this through. A number of years ago I spun into the Armco at NJMP on the Thunderbolt track at T11 in the rain in my black Lotus Exige S. Had video camera running in the car as well as the car behind me. Nothing surprised me more than the front end breaking loose and the subsequent spin into the grass heading backwards along the Armco until the Armco turned and I hit it at 80 MPH. It all happened in seconds. My car was totaled and I was sore as hell. Had full nomex underwear, full nomex race suit, CF full face helmet, HANS device, gloves, 5 point harness. Hit the Armco so hard the video camera came off its two bolt mount on the harness bar and spun around 180 degrees facing the engine, not the windshield. I was was able to walk away slowly. For more than a month my upper chest felt like a was having a heart attack every day. The doctors told me I had severely bruised the muscle tissue in my upper chest from the impact. It was the HANS device that crushed me. But my neck and spine was fine. I was strapped in so tight that my body didn't move very much, but it was the shock absorber. The track officials were all very surprised as I am typically a very good driver in the advanced run groups. Lots of questions regarding what I thought happened. After my accident the next run group went out. It had stopped raining but the track was wet. Within four laps a track prepped mustang spun off the track in exactly the same location and hit the Armco even harder. Totalled his car. The track put tires up in front of the Armco as it was now pretty crushed. And guess what they found? Oil on the track. Now it all made sense. I watched my videos hundreds of times. Had a professional instructor watch with me. Dissected every movement and played back in my mind what went wrong and how could I have done something different. I built another track car (my silver Exige S). This time being even more careful regarding safety equipment and the parts being used to build my car. For more than a year I couldn't drive my normal self. Every corner was suspect and I always thought I was too close to the edge of loosing traction. My lap times were pitiful. I almost quit. Had a few high speed encounters and spun in the dry. Got my confidence back that I really do know what I'm doing and one day was back to normal. It took over a year to get there mentally. Maintence was paramont. After every two track days the entire suspension was gone over with a torque wrench. All locking nuts marked with a red line to note any movement. I torqued the wheel nuts after every run group. I threw tires away that were even close to being heat cycled too much. Last year I was at a three day track event at NJMP where I had my personal best track times. The car was running great and it was a fun weekend. Another Lotus friend was on the track, spun out at high speed and hit the tire wall backwards. Big damage to the car, he was ok. Walked away. The next day I thought to myself, there are two types of track drivers. Those that have crashed and those that will. I had already paid my dues. The question was, for how long? I went that home that night and told my wife I was retiring from the track. She had always wondered when I would stop after my first accident. Sold my Exige in a week. Ended my track membership. Sold most of my racing karts ( another story). Bought a 50 year old Lotus Elan S1 that I am restoring and "upgrading". I miss my track friends and the great social environment that come with it. I miss working on my car prepping for the next track event. I don't miss the thought of what happens if...........while on the track.
15. Thanks Tom! Always enjoy the Seven crowd :hurray: Sorry I will miss the big Fourth of July event ( I'm out of town). I need to make a new Seven video! I'm in the midst of an S1 Elan rebuild. You know me, can't leave well enough alone. I've got a nice refreshed twin cam going in that has been "enhanced". Here is a 4 minute time lapse of removing the body from the frame in my garage: I'm building the car as a 26R spec.
16. For those of you that could not make the opening night of the AACA Museum's Lotus Exhibit "The Art of Lightness", the YouTube link is of a video my son and I shot of the highlights. Kyle Kaulback did a spectacular job of curating the exhibit.
17. There are only two. http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1951-lotus-mark-iiib/#tab1
18. Good luck with your Elan search and be very patient. I was looking for an Elan S1 for 2 years before I found one that met my qualifications for a realistic price. Wire wheel had a couple of original ones for sale this year in nice condition. Do an Internet search daily, because the good ones go fast.
19. Too bad I'm not around during the fun, I can usually come up with some interesting shots ;-)
20. Karl, great article on your new venture, what a great idea and lifestyle! Sorry to hear your selling your fantastic Caterham, it's a car that most of us lust over.
21. Croc, I have seen many cars go off in the green group. I have even seen cars wrecked badly in the green group. Always happens in the afternoon run groups when everyone's level of "expertise" is way up. Tom has gotten quite fast in his yellow beast. Seat time will do that. Although it was only a matter of time of keeping the pressure on that I wore him out and finally caught him ;-) excellent driving Tom! Your videos are getting more interesting Croc. I liked the latest one with the beep beeps. Your more focused on recording the driving style, I'm more playful with the movement, framing and editing to music. I do get critiqued for drowning out the engine sounds........oh well, it's my video ;-) Looking forward to my next track day with the Seven's gang. Do I get an invite?
22. My seventeen year old son has been karting for the last two years and driving on the road for one year. Figured it was time he had a proper track day in the Lotus. So off to our track where we are members (NJMP) and spent a really great father/son day together. Shot some video and caught a little event while he was on the track with an instructor....... Second part is of me driving trying like hell to catch Tom......he let me finally get him
23. Three days of all things Lotus. What more could you want? LOG 33 highlights.
24. For those of you that didn't make it, the link below is a series of photos I took at LOG 33. http://www.britishspeed.com/forum/showthread.php?7568-LOG-33-Photos
