  1. JBH...who is that you're following in that one photo? Looks like a Stalker?
  2. Although I've never been, I here Jerry's party and the event in general are an awesome opportunity to see a bunch of different Se7ens in action and up close — and Jerry and Sue E. are great people! If you can make it, I highly recommend it!
  3. Someone beat you to posting that, DB! I like how everyone is trying to get me back into the saddle. Like you don't think that I'm trying to do the same myself! Note that I'm actually not looking for a project car. Unless it was like, Hazel Chapman's personal car that's been rotting in a garage somewhere...
  4. Here is a pic of the half hood on my old/Morgan's current Superlight. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/240459641_picture-7.jpg Note that Jill fits these things for specific models, years, and roll bars...the top on Mr. Orange (see Morgan, I am open to change!) actually fits not so perfectly now that it has the FIA rollbar by Caged instead of the "r500" style bar that it came with. So, be sure to send photos and measure roll bar height/width/cant if ordering. I would be remiss if I didn't tell you RMSCI sells these for Jill here in the USA. They might be pricier, but the exchange rate sucks as it is, and you'll save on international phone calls. -Al
  5. DB, when you say "perspex", do you mean you have brooklands screens? If so, I don't know how people mount side mirrors...hopefully someone who runs that config will chime in. Although, if you did, I can't imagine how the top you wrestled with would snap to anything at the leading edge?
  6. David- It's all relative. A new Cat with a Duratec is about the same, if not more. I think one of the people involved with that business is an occasional commenter here. He does have his allegiances and preferences with regard to marque, that I'll say. I did consider one of these when I bought Orange a few years back, but the thought of getting the car imported to the US was too daunting. Also, I happen to like narrow body cars, and the 'busa install they have cooked up requires an SV body...or at least it did. -Al
  7. If you don't care about having doors (from your other post on weather gear), then use the holes that hinges normally go on and use the Spa mirrors.
  8. Arya, I'm going to ask your uncle to punch you in the arm for me, very hard, upon his return....:jester:
  9. Uh-oh, someone's got the Se7en bug! DB, I do know of several folks who've owned a few variants over the years...currently, I know that Dale & Sherron have a Stalker and a Birkin sharing a garage. If you are interested in keeping the Caterham, i'd get one of the more different models just for diversity...to have a Cat and a Birkin (don't hurt me Birkin owners) would be perhaps too similar. If it's simple enough to register newer cars, I'd get a Westy with a bike engine or WCM with the S2000 drivetrain...again to have something VERY different than your existing Cat but still within the Se7en family. If you want to trade for something different...perhaps a Superformance owner might want to swap? I know that S1Steve was considering selling his car a while back....
  10. I recently received a PM asking about the whereabouts of stickers/club materials for people who signed up as club members. Since the fulfillment of club materials is in my court, I'll apologize for the delay. My day job has been extremely busy since August. Mazda sent me the member forms before he left for Australia, and I've been entering them into the club database slowly but surely. The stickers are printed, and I'm just waiting for the member cards to come in. I hope to get materials out by end of Sept. Thanks again for your support — and understanding that this is a organization run by volunteers. Best, Al P.S. If it's any consolation, I haven't gotten my stuff from the US Lotus Club and I paid them back in May! Actually, I got someone else's card and materials and sent them back to Cora...but haven't gotten the correct ones...proof that delays and hiccups can happen with even long-established clubs.
  11. Al Navarro Frenchtown, NJ ?????? 2 adults, 2 kids
  12. Buy my old front plate mount from Morgan. Alternately, I like what Mike R. does...he has the plate info on a little decal on his nosecone.
  13. But, will they build someone "the last of the V8 Interceptors"?
  14. When I had manual cars, only on a hill or as noted by Gert, red lights of exceptionally long duration. I find that the majority of lights have a flat area, so no brakes of any kind are needed to keep the car stationary.
  15. This was similar to my reactions when Mazda drove my TT over the Dragon on our recon run many moons ago. Of course, I am not as attractive as Mrs. Patrese
  16. As noted on the housing thread, we have selected Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in OK as the venue for the Track Day of the 2009 USA7s National Meet — JULY 2, 2009. www.hallettracing.net There aren't many suitable facilities close to Branson, and the other option was equidistant to the East. I think a few USA7ers have driven Hallett and apparently it's supposed to be great. People who intend to track their car may want to book a hotel either in Hallett for the night of July 2 or somewhere on the way home from Hallett — as our host facility in Branson may not make sense (especially if you're coming from a home in the West). Additionally, I wanted to share a few thoughts. We could get the entire track to ourselves for a day if enough people sign up. The current wisdom is to have a HPDE session in the AM, then run a Time Trial format in the afternoon. I think everyone would get plenty of seat time. Here's my only caveat/reservation...if we have 25 Se7ens, the cost is something like $195/car, including transponder rental. If we only get 10 people to participate, the cost per car shoots up to $430. We only had 7 firm "YES" votes in our poll, with 4 "STRONG INTEREST" votes. It is our hope that more people will commit to this part of the meet between now and June - and not have to resort to filling the trackday with non-Se7eners to make ends meet. While we will have an official e-commerce set up to reserve a spot at the track day, it might be a good idea if seriously interested parties chime in on this thread. P.S. THANKS TO LOREN E. AND JERRY E. FOR HELPING US EAST COASTERS SORT OUT THE TRACKDAY VENUE.
  17. Lodging & Track Day Information for 2009 Meet in Branson, Missouri We have selected the Pointe Royale Condominium Resort as the host facility for the 2009 USA7s National Meet in Branson, MO. It is a lakefront property (on catch and release trophy trout area of Lake Taneycomo), with condo-style accommodations. This means every unit has a living/dining area as well as a kitchen — in addition to one or more bedrooms & bathrooms. The living room areas have a pullout couch, so a family of 4 or even two parties (couples or singles who don’t mind sharing a bathroom) could share a one-bedroom unit. Another nice thing about condo-style accommodations is you can have people over for a beer without sitting on a motel/hotel bed — and you have a kitchen right there should you want to keep food/beverages in cold storage or whip up a late night snack. Here are the prices per night (15% off the regular rates): One Bedroom/One Bath - $114/night Two Bedroom/Two Bath - $160-$179/night Three Bedroom/Three Bath - $241-$257/night Four Bedroom/Three Bath - $293/night Note that these prices are very low for a quality lakefront facility that offers meeting/banquet rooms large enough to accommodate a group of 50 to 100 (or more?!?). All attendees are responsible for booking/paying for their own accommodations. There will be an additional event fee that will cover a number of group meals, printing costs, and other costs of putting on the event…we’ll post and start collecting that once we have the final number ironed out. FYI, according to my sources, there is a KOA Campground nearby (on Highway 165) for people who prefer to camp. Here’s the contact info: www.pointeroyale.com 800-962-4710 417-334-5614 Ask for Art Holmberg (Group Sales Manager, though any reservationist should be able to help you) and be sure to mention that you’re with the USA7s group to get the rates listed above. Here are the nights of the meet again: Monday June 29, 2009 Tuesday June 30, 2009 Wednesday July 1, 2009 Thursday July 2, 2009 is the trackday. We have selected Hallett Motor Racing Circuit as the venue. See the Track Day thread for details. PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, HOME CITY, CAR TYPE, AND PARTY SIZE ON THIS THREAD ONCE YOU MAKE RESERVATIONS.
  18. Morgan...if you are besmirching my old car with glossy tire prep stuff, I may have to invoke the buy-back option i put into the bill of sale lingo...:jester: Nice pix.
  19. Stan- I love the features on that mount! Such as: - Random anti-jitter/jitter-inducing system! - Ability to work in virtually every situation/application, except when both hands are needed. - Works with any camera, even video! And, of course, the price can't be beat! :jester: In all seriousness, great pix. Thanks for keeping us posted. BTW, a reminder to send some high rez pix and perhaps a write up to John V. for the next newsletter. -A
  20. Stan et al. Here's the Branson average in July: Hghs 88-91 Lows 65-67 Average 78 BTW, great pix. Do all you guys use some sort of variant of "Gert's fancy-shmancy remote controlled camera mount"? or a variety of camera mount methods?
  21. On the individualistic front, I've observed this/discussed it with many other Se7ers...to the point where I was concerned that we'd even be able to get a National-level club going...but I guess the love of the cars is enough to bond a group of typically "non-joiners". What's that old line again "I'd never belong to a club that would have me as member." :jester: On the "anytime/anywhere" angle...the more you hang out and meet guys like that, I think the more you want to be one. Cherik B./Graeme G./and Jeff P. posse was a great example. Iron Butts, one and all. And Gert and many guys from the West Coast seem to be heavy users, too. Man, I can't wait to have another Se7en in the garage....
  22. Thanks for the updates Tom! Great pix.
  23. Bruce, I did it for you this AM...hopefully some of the guys will come over to chime in... Give my best to Nancy. Sorry I missed you up at LRP. -A
  24. Bruce- I'd post this over on the usa@se7ens.net email listserv...I think a bunch of folks who are more active over there (like Michael D.) have a lot of Zetec alternator experience. Or look for Morgan's thread on here from a while back....when Mr. Orange's alternator crapped out on him....I think some folks had some expertise/experience they could share with you. -Al
  25. JBH...thems is fighting words for some of our clubbers! I'm actually not one of them, as I used Orange the way CJ plans to...like a sunny day motorcycle. That said, driving 7 (or was it 9?) hours in the pouring rain with just a half-hood and half-doors was a pretty amazing experience that bonded me to the car in a way that the occasional sunny blat would never be able to equal.
