  1. The next sentence means "If you import a box containing an engine and transmission and chassis and body and all the other stuff you need in order to make a car, it's a car."
  2. I thought buying the drivetrain from a different company on a different invoice helps to circumvent that issue?
  3. I am only just beginning the SB100 process. It says: Make: Caterham Model: Seven Model year: 2019 Which is interesting as I rec'd the kit in 2021.
  4. My MSO from Caterham (a 420R that was ordered in May 2020, and shipped Dec 2020) states it is a 2019 Caterham...
  5. That's what I thought but wasn't sure. I think some cars the camber can be changed independent of toe but not sure if it's actually possible.
  6. Random question re: alignment changes. Does changing camber affect the toe in these cars? ie if adjust camber, do I need to reset toe? Thanks
  7. The group called "caterham and 7 owners in usa and Canada".
  8. The talk on the facebook group is that people are recommending registering their 7s out of state, as CA is just a dead end...
  9. Everything i have read dictates that a dry sump system eliminates pcv. Hence why we have that plate on the left side of the duratec block.
  10. Yeah, I was trying to look up some dry-sumped production cars to learn more but didn't get far. One question I have is if I vent the oil tank to somewhere in the intake, would it be to a place under vacuum or not. With a PCV system, the PCV goes into the intake after the throttle body, so the vacuum pulls out the crankcase fumes. Then the breather from the valve cover goes into the airbox usually. I'm not sure what the BAR will want to see with my system. I think before modifying my setup, I'll inquire with them.
  11. Well my 420R is dry sump so there is no PCV at all. The crankcase is ventilated via the sump scavenge pump back to the oil tank. There's a breather from the oil tank, but I'm not sure how to connect that to either the stock intake plenum or the roller barrel intake that I currently have installed.
  12. To those that have been through the BAR inspection process - how was the PCV/CCV system addressed? I don't think any Caterhams have a closed crankcase breathing setup. I am trying to figure out how to pass their requirements with my dry sumped 420R.
  13. I only have one ECU - I have to get it re-flashed to switch intakes. I am also thinking about putting a bung on the backplate to avoid having to switch intakes. I'm not sure what the BAR will accept given the 420R dry sump system.
  14. I'm starting the registration for my new 420R build in California- the dreaded SB100 process. It's come to my attention that I must have a fully closed PCV system. Currently I have the RBTB intake which has no provision for this. I could go back to the stock intake plenum for initial inspection, then switch back. I see that there is a bung on the underside of the stock plenum presumable for this purpose. Has anyone hooked this up? In reading on other forums about this issue (mostly on kit cobras) they speak of having to run another connection into the air filter in addition to the one in the plenum. I'm not sure how I can accomplish this. How are people accomplishing this on the California builds?
  15. SK400 was correct. The issue was incorrect injectors. The new RBTB tune works with the stock black injectors, not the green "R500" injectors. I swapped the injectors, cleaned up the plugs and it's running. Very strong oil smell (blow-by I presume?) but running strong. Put 20ish miles on, still stinky. Need to burp the coolant again, running a bit hot.
  16. I got a new washer. Better fit but still used some loctite 592. Probably will never remove it again.
  17. Mystery solved. Clearly the wrong sized copper washer was installed from the factory.
  18. After the bump up in torque to 20ftlbs yesterday afternoon, this AM the leak is worse. Small pool of oil under the car. I'm going to drain it today then do thread sealant - I have some Permatex 59214. Hopefully it works.
  19. Hmmm this is a new build and the bolt/washer were prefitted into the tank, but were loose. I never took them out to inspect/clean. I just torqued it up then filled it up. I suppose it's possible some debris is preventing sealing.
  20. My new 420R wants to leak from the drain plug on the dry sump tank. Tank is aluminum, and with the copper washer, I figured would need very little torque. Initially only had about 5ftlbs on it. Leaked. Increased to 10. Leaking. Increased to 15. Leaking. Increased to 20. STILL LEAKING!! How tight is safe? I'm thinking about just pumping out all the oil, taking out the drain plug then putting it back in with some thread sealant or just JB weld it in LOL. My plan is to pump the oil out of the tank rather than drain it, which seems to be the favored technique. Anyone with any tips?
  21. Just to add... Spark are dark and sooty on 1st two cylinders.
  22. Just got my 420R build complete - did the Caterham roller barrel upgrade during the initial build. I'm having some issues on first start. It seems I have the incorrect ECU tune as was reported on this thread: The tach does not read properly (barely moved with revs). But more significantly I am getting apparent intermittent firing from the rear-most cylinder. It will start but runs very rough, sounds like it's missing. Will die if don't keep throttle pressed. Blowing dark smoke from exhaust. Strong smell of gas (keeping in mind I have no cat on right now). Rear-most primary not as hot as the other three (tested with IR gun), but not completely cold. After idling a while with throttle pressed to keep it alive, especially if it's hot (water temp over 80-85c), it will smooth out and idle on its own, pretty smoothly. If I rev it very slowly and gently, the revs will smoothly climb. With any stabs of the throttle, or when attempting to drive it, when there's any load on it, it stumbles/bucks/sounds like it's missing again. I couldn't drive it over 20 miles an hour in second gear. It will seem to toggle back and forth between missing and not missing. OBD scan says P2226 - "barometric pressure circuit". Unplugging the MAP sensor doesn't change how it runs at all. Is this behavior all due to the wrong tune or is there something else going on?
  23. I had a similar experience. First tide of everything takes 5 hrs. Second side 15 minutes.
  24. I guess Caterham finally got around to modernizing the tail lights. I think they may have gone too modern. Your thoughts?
