My Caterham oil pan has 2.5" of ground clearance without me in the car. I found some small scratches in the fins the last time I changed the oil. I think I did those getting into my previous trailer. I am used to driving a lowered Miata with about the same clearance but more front overhang so I am very careful around speed bumps and the like. Skip

Let me offer a slightly out of the box alternative. I have an internally stock 1,800 cc Miata engine with a turbocharger in my Caterham. It dyno'd at 301 RWHP and 260 lb ft of torque. It is totally docile in normal driving, not fussy or high strung at all, that is until you allow it to go into boost. Since the Miata engine was originally designed as a turbo engine for the 323 GTX/GTR it is capable of handling those levels of power without internal mods as long as you keep the rev limiter at 7,500 RPM. With internal mods you can easily get 350 - 400 hp. One person has taken a 2.0 version to well over 600 hp for a dragstrip Miata. Skip

That's beautiful! Did you do this on your new French Wheel? -
Do you climb over them to get in and out or unsnap and resnap them? Skip

I did but went looking in the CP and found the settings Jerry mentioned. No problems since. Skip

I agree with Mazda, my old eyes are having a hard time with the text, especially the red text on black background. Otherwise it looks great. Skip

How about posting some pictures of the bellhousing as well as the rest of the drive train? I like to see how people go about doing things the factories didn't design for. Skip

Go to the Edit Options and scroll down and change your time zone. I changed my but sometime today it changed back and the times were off again. I also lost the setting for the advanced reply editor and had to reset it again. Mazda: Great job, I like this much better. I really like the Latest Posts button, saves a lot of time looking for the new posts. I also like the way it displays the attached pictures, giving you the ability to view all the attachments without going back to the post for each one. Skip

Beautiful car, love the color. How did you go about mating the Saab engine to the BMW transmission? Skip

Tom, I saw one of Bob Sutherland's Group B RS200s at one of his annual charity car shows quite some time ago. He had a great collection of cars, I was sorry to see the collection broken up and auctioned off after his death. Skip

Skip (if his health allows for it) Health will only determine which car I drive, most likely the Miata as the doc says no Caterham for a year. Tom (if he gets his car finished) Jeff and I will be kicking his butt regularly to get that car on the road. Next time he comes down here from the frozen North we're going to chain him to the chassis until it is finished. Al: you are welcome to some left and/or right seat time in the Miata, not quite a Se7en but it won't have a problem keeping up with them. The white RS at the start of the video is quite different than the black one he drives. What is the difference, race vs. street? Skip

:iagree: Well said Drew. I get about 27 mpg under "normal" conditions and 11 mpg on the track. I'm certain I could get much more if I could just get some of the lead out of my right foot. That will never happen. :7fume:

Wow. You fabricated your own muffler. I'm impressed, I can't recall anyone making their own muffler from scratch before. Skip

Jim, No offense taken. Replica was the term the agent came up with to satisfy the computers for insuring a 2004 Caterham SV with their company which normally does not insure newer cars. I had suggested Lotus 7, continuation, kit car and a few others but the computer wouldn't accept those. When I got the policy, it listed it as a 1950 Lotus 7 replica. I don't know how they got the 1950 in there but the VIN was correct so I didn't worry about it. Similar thing happened with the DMV. I went in with a 2004 Caterham MSO and came out with a title stating the car was a 2007 Cat. According to the DMV code for kit cars it should have been registered as a 2007 Kit. I had hopes of getting it titled and insured as a 1967 Lotus 7 as some others have been able to. I didn't have to pass emissions as a new law in 2007 exempted kit cars. Skip

Try again with a different agent at Hagerty. Most of them don't know their a$$ from a framitz valve. Stress that you car is a replica of a 1957 Lotus 7 and will be street driven. I had no problems getting my Caterham insured with them at an agreed value of $30k, no mileage limit and a premium of around $450 per year. Skip

Looks like we have a Se7ens Mini-Meet going here. Anyone else want to join in?

Mazda, your Se7en is as far from nothing as any Se7en I know of. Probably the heaviest as well.:jester:

Not true Al, I have had many people tell me my SV is beautiful, one woman even called it sexy. I have never heard the "nothing to it" comment. Westfield XI: Welcome aboard, I love the XI and would like to build one sometime. A couple of questions for you, could you tell me the height of your engine, oil pan to highest point? Do you know how much clearance there will be between the engine and bonnet? When I do build one I want to use the spare Miata engine and trans I have sitting in my shop looking for a new home. Thanks, Skip

I have T1Ss on one Miata and T1Rs on the other. I like them both. I used to use the T1Ss on track days and they did very well. On the Miata the T1Ss were good for about 11,000 miles and 8 track days. Great ride and just a tad slower on turn in than Toyo R1s. I dropped 2.5 seconds per lap when I switched the Miata to Kumho Victoracers V700s but they lasted less than 800 miles, mostly on the track. They get noisy when worn but on a Se7en, who cares? As already noted, they are great rain tires. Totally useless in the snow. Skip

Welcome aboard KiwiBirkin. The car looks great and if the NZ$ is anything close to the US$ you got a great deal. Skip

That probably should have been Atom SV 1+2 since there is only one body in the front seat.
