It might work if there were enough people who live relatively close to each other where the scales could be passed from person to person without shipping.
-
I handled a set of scales earlier this week when Nathan at RMSCI did the setup and cornerweighting on my car. I would estimate each scale weighs about 15 lb. Roughly 60 lb for the scales, I'm guessing the electronics box weighs at least 10 lb, then add in some kind of shipping container and you are probably approaching 80 lb. Not very cheap to ship these days. I have used three different sets of scales and all of them had a large wood box on wheels to move them around the shop. I think if you look around your area, you will find some place that will corner weight your car very reasonably. The most I have paid is $50 for the cornerweighting, one shop has done if for free several times on my Miata.

I pull a 1,400 lb, 18' aluminum tiltbed trailer with a 1,338 lb Se7en on board with an '05 Subaru Legacy GT wagon. No problems with towing at 85 mph. The trailer has electric brakes on both axles. I am concerned about towing over I-70 while the construction is going on in the Eisenhower tunnel. Traffic is stop and go for a mile or so prior to the tunnel on some of the steeper grades and I don't think the clutch will live through more than 2 or 3 stops and starts. I have two trips scheduled over this route this summer and have arranged to borrow a GMC pickup with V8 and towing package for those trips. Otherwise I am very happy with the Subie as a tow vehicle. Great photos from zeephoto. Is the owner of the car pictured in #35 on this forum? It has a turbo Miata engine and a red roll cage. I'd like to talk to you off line. Skip -
When the airbags go off, you want to get out of there ASAP if it is safe to do so. That smoke is from the sodium azide and it will give you a tremendous headache that can last for days. I've been in two airbag deployments, one on a test stand when we were developing the system at Thiokol and one in a car crash. I have to wonder what the effect on his ears will be with at least three bags deploying in a closed car. Some people get permanent hearing damage but it is better than planting your face in the steering wheel.

In what form did you acquire your SE7EN?

I have to qualify my vote for "Complete Kit without Drivetrain". It was actually an assembled rolling chassis without a drivetrain. The dealer had the car for 2 years and had assembled the chassis and was waiting for a customer to spec the drivetrain. I bought it without a motor and transmission. Athough I didn't have the fun of assembling the chassis, installing the Miata drivetrain did take over my life and garage for about 18 months.:yesnod: -
So, tell us a little about yourselves

Keep the Miata and build the Caterham. That's what I did and I don't regret it at all. Since I just got the Caterham road legal, I haven't been driving the Miata much but when I do, it seems like a different car than it was before the Caterham came along. Now the Miata feels large and luxurious and after owning it for about 8 years, it seems new and fresh again. Another approach would be to buy a Westfield kit and use your Miata as a donor car: http://www.flyinmiata.com/westfield/ Welcome aboard! Skip -
FWIW, that motor looks more like an old Volvo than a Ford to me.

PLEASE add names (and screen names) to the pictures wherever possible so those of us who could not attend can associate names and faces. Thanks for all the great pictures, Skip -
My understanding was that he did a face plant into the Wink mirror. This was in a Nissan Sentra SE-R. I will ask him for more details next time I talk to him. Skip

bsimon, Sorry, I made the assumption that yours was a Wink brand mirror. My friend had the Wink brand. I don't know what type of glass it was nor how the glass was attached to the frame, he just mentioned that it wasn't tempered and he got a face full of embedded glass from the accident. Skip

I was about to buy one of those a few months ago so I asked a friend about his experiences with one in a regular car. He was in an accident and said the docs were digging shards of glass from his face off and on for over a year. The glass was not tempered. I checked with the seller of the Mirrors for Sevens and the Wink mirror he uses is also plain glass so I decided not to use it. I use the Caterham mirror and added SPA side mirrors. I have a problem judging distances in the SPA convex mirrors and find myself using the flat center mirror when I need to know how close something is.

Installing a Radar Detector in a Se7en
scannon replied to scannon's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I decided to make my own mount for the detector. The detector is velcro'd to the mount and the garage door opener is velcro'd underneath. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/42990703_DSC02920.JPG Its not too visible from the front, peeking out from under the wiper blade. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1159331994_DSC02918.JPG You can see the 12 volt plug to the right of the Link keypad. I used an aftermarket cigarette lighter socket stuck to the panel with double stick tape. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/902446239_DSC02924.JPG I still haven't been able to get the speedo and sensor to communicate so I bought a bicycle speedometer that uses a magnet glued to the rim and a sensor zip tied to the cycle fender brace. It is slow to register when accelerating but will do for now. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1542498840_DSC02923.JPG -
His name is Josh Wyte. Ater the rides in my cars, he took me for a short demo of the S4's acceleration. Very impressive. 500hp and 550 lb ft will do that for you even in a heavy car like the S4. It felt similar to a ride I had in an SRT-8 Jeep Grand Wagoneer awhile back.

Hey everyone headed to the 7/7/7 event. Have a great time and a safe trip. I'm not going to be able to make it but I expect to see lots of photos and videos. Skip

I've used the scales at a landscaping supply outlet to weigh cars in the past. They usually have accurate digital scales since they are involved in commerce and selling by weight. You could also use three of the scales from a corner weighting setup.

A fellow who asked for a ride in my turbo Miata came by yesterday. After the ride/drive in the Miata I offered him a ride in my Caterham. I think he was impressed. He mentioned that he ran the One Lap with a 500 hp Audi S4 wagon. He couldn't say enough good things about Loren and his car. He couldn't believe they drove through all that bad weather without a top or windshield.

I had a similar experience yesterday evening. I was driving my Se7en along a rural two lane road at about 45 - 50 mpy when I spotted a large dark object flying towards my car. It changed its trajectory a bit so I don't think it was a rock although it was more or less a ballistic curve. It hit the passenger side of the windscreen with a loud crack and I figured I was already going to be replacing the glass. It left behind a mess similar to an insect but much larger. It was difficult to clean it off when I got home and there was a little bit of red substance, probably blood. Fortunately, the glass was intact, not even a crack or a chip. A bat was one of the possibilites or a bird but although I could see the round object quite well, there was no suggestion of wings. I've never seen an insect anywhere near that size so I don't know for sure what it was. I suspect taking that bat or what ever it was in the face must have smarted a bit. I took a robin in the chest on a motorcycle and it hurt like hell and left a large bruise. Hope you are OK. Skip

Has anyone weighed one yet?

Yup, thats how us 'Mericans :flag: with our archaic, unevolved Kings English would pronounce it.

It's how the Brits pronounce Caterham.

Great looking trailers!

I just got this reminder about early registration for LOG27. Folks, For anyone who intends to go to the LOG at Snowmass, your registration must be postmarked no later than 30 June, or you will have to pay a $40 surcharge (per person) for late registration. Save yourself some cash to buy those Lotus parts, or liquid refreshment, you need (and who doesn't?) by getting your registration in and postmarked by tomorrow!!! Cheers! Mike PS If you are a member of another Lotus forum, would you please be so kind as to get this info out on that other forum as well?? Thanks!

I desperately need to get my detector mounted in the Caterham but I'm not coming up with any decent way to mount it. Does anyone have any suggestions or pictures? I have an Escort 8500 detector and a Caterham SV that need to get acquainted.

Thanks Mazda. I was also looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the group plus I've never been to the dragon and have wanted to for a long time.
