  1. I used to live in Tujunga and have run that road at speed many times on motorcycles and sports cars. I have never seen anything larger than a coyote up there. Glad I never met up with one of those deer on my Kawasaki. Glad that you didn't have any closer encounter that that captured in the vid.
  2. Until you remove the bonnet or start the engine. I'm new to the Se7en world and I am surprised how many people actually know what my car is or at least it is related to the Lotus 7. No one has ever asked me if it was fast enough to take on the freeway. I often get asked how quick it is and I just tell them it's around 5.5 lb/hp.
  3. I've had a number of people assert that my car must have cost at least $70k, one woman was sure it was over $100k. No one has ever to my knowledge thought the cost was as low as what I have in it.
  4. OK, curiosity is killing me, just WHAT parts did you borrow from the Ford truck to put on the SR27??? Bob: 2.7 sec! WOW.
  5. Neil, I think it's freaking fantastic! Those are extremely good numbers.:hurray: Welcome aboard to our group. Skip
  6. He is probably the only other driver on the road we would be looking down at. One of the very few smaller vehicles on the road as well.
  7. I have enough problems keeping my cats off the keyboard, now I would have to compete with them to use the mouse!
  8. Bob, A Miata club friend has offered the use of his magnehelic gage that he has used for checking underhood pressures on his Miata. I'll check with him to see what range his gage has. When are you going to be in Greeley, I'll try to get there around the same time. It's going to be great to finally have a functioning speedometer! I finished and mounted the bracket for the sensor for my car but want to take some more measurements on Tom's car before I make one for him. Skip
  9.                  Bob, I will take you up on the loan of the gage. I don't want to start cutting holes in the bodywork without at least a good idea that they will be effective. I will look into lifting the rear of the bonnet for track use. I don't have a problem on the street so it can sit normally when not on the track. I have driven with the tunnel cover off and there is a vertible blast furnace effect. Way too much to drive on the track with it open but maybe I can make a new temporary track only tunnel cover with a chimney on it like the F1 cars use.
  10. When did Team Penske and Firestone move to F1?
  11. I think the problem is not the radient heat added by the turbo since it is downstream of the radiator and intercooler but rather the volume of air flow through the radiator and intercooler. Finding a way to extract a higher volume of hot air from the engine compartment will allow more flow through the radiator and help with both the coolant temps and the under bonnet temps. The big question is how to get more flow through the radiator and intercooler as running without the bonnet produced lower coolant temps. Running with the heater on did not significantly reduce coolant temps. It does help with my turbocharged Miata but didn't solve that problem either.
  12. They haven't been coated other than high temp paint on the manifold and downpipe. I plan to do some type of thermal coating this winter and that should reduce the underhood and footwell temps but won't help with getting the hot air out of there. Do you really thing a backwards scoop would extract air? The dynamics of underhood airflow are such that without extensive testing, you are only guessing when it comes to placing exit vents. Maybe I should just cut some large holes in the side panels and mount some fans on them. Running the heater helps a little but not enough to get the problem in control.
  13. I think the new banner is great! :hurray: Change it every so often just to keep us on our toes and provide some variety. You can put up some front end shots next time.
  14. At the track this weekend, I experienced overheating in 85 - 90F ambient temps. I removed the nosecone and bonnet and ran a few laps and the coolant temps dropped dramatically. I ran the rest of the day with the nosecone on and the bonnet off with no problems. From this I conclude that the problem is getting the heated air out of the engine compartment. I don't want to run without a bonnet so I am looking for ways to improve the flow of hot air out of the engine compartment. The car is a Caterham SV with the normal louvers on the top of the bonnet and does not have a cutout for an air intake. There is a turbo on the drivers side that contributes greatly to the heat load under the hood. It got hot enough under there to delaminate the foil covering on the footwell insulation as well as the foil tape sealing the edges of it. The foam remains glued to the footwell. I have insulated the brake line as it passes the turbo and the throttle cable with thermal sleeving and had no problems with fading brakes or sticking throttle. The radiator and intercooler are completely shrouded inside the nose cone. I plan on removing the heater soon as I just don't see a need for it. Anyone have any good suggestions for extracting the hot air?
  15. :iagree: I think those would look great blown up a bit and framed. I could find a place on my shop walls for a set if you want to make them.
  16. YES, the more the merrier. Welcome to the group. Post up some details and pictures in the Members Rides section. Skip
  17. Seth, Can you point me to some closeups of the flashers? or send me some pictures. Skip
  18. I have E-track running lengthwise like yours. I tie down from the left E-track to the right side of the car, etc., going forward or rearward as far as possible on the E-track. It has worked well for me so far. I also hook up to the winch as a safety factor. Anyone know a reason not to do it this way? I don't have the over the tire straps, just hooks to the frame and E-track. Skip
  19. :iagree: Congratulations from me as well. I got to experience that same wonderful feeling a couple of months ago. Skip
  20. The rule of thumb seems to be 10 to 1 at least as far as calculating the wear and tear on a car.
  21. There is a company in Denver that builds Beck 550 Spyder kits and will even put a Subaru STi motor in them for you. I've seen a couple of them and they seem well done. I haven't had a chance to drive one though. I thought long and hard about getting one but in the end went with the Caterham. If you are interested, google something like "beck spyder denver colorado" and you should find their website.
  22. One of the very best Miata license plates I have seen is "NO LUCAS". I was laughing so hard I was nearly on the floor.
  23. Russ, Looks like you are elected since no one else has thrown their helmet in the ring. I'd be glad to help you with any planning should you decide to do an event in the mountains near Denver. Are any other forum members planning on attending LOG27 in late August? Skip
  24. I'm already having electrical problems with the front turn signal/park light fixtures. They come and they go, the problem seems to be in the sockets. I also despise those %#@&ing lenses and retainer rings. I thought I was done with those when I sold my last A-H 3000. I don't much care for the plastic, open bottom housings that came with the Caterham either. Is anyone selling a nice aftermarket assembly to repace this POS?
  25. Seth, How much for a set for a Caterham SV in 15", two 7" and two 8" wide delivered to ZIP 80516? Skip
