  1. At Denver's 5280' it is about a 20% power loss for normally aspirated cars. My turbo doesn't much care about altitude, it just spins faster to make the same boost. It is almost as powerful at 12,000' as at sea level. Probably less than 3% loss. That's the reason I have turbos on all my cars instead of superchargers. No time today for fishing and golf, didn't want to waste any time that could be spent on blatting. :hurray:
  2. Temps were in the mid 70s with a clear blue sky today so three of us decided the time was ripe for one last blat in the Colorado mountains. Snow is expected tomorrow evening and highs in the 20s on Wednesday. Looks like winter is finally here. Three of us met at the mouth of Boulder canyon and while doing show and tell on our cars we noticed 2 sherriff's cars head up the canyon so we switched canyons and headed up Left Hand canyon. We had a '67 Lotus Elan, a '96 Miata and my '04 Caterham SV. Carl commented that this was the first time his Miata was the largest car of the group. Traffic was minimal and we were able to drive rather briskly. At the top of the canyon we took the Peak to Peak Highway north to St. Vrains canyon and headed down that one. After a stop in Lyons for lunch at Oskar Blues, Carl had to return to work and Jason and I jumped in my Caterham and went back up St. Vrains. I drove up and he drove back. Then we got in his Elan and did it again. This was the first time I had ridden in or driven an Elan. I was suprised how well his car handled and rode, better than I expected from a 40 year old car. Its also very quiet and calm in the cockpit compared to my Se7en. A very fun car to drive. Did I mention it was a glorious day for a Blat! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1396587720_Elan 11.07009.JPG
  3. A thousand pardons, what was I thinking, just copying and pasting the title without first running it through a translator. :banghead:
  4. The 450SEL was used to film the drive, the Ferrari 275GTB drove the same route a week later but was only used to make the soundtrack. Same driver for both cars. A test drive was done by someone else in the Mercedes as shown in one of the clips on the website. That one is in French and probably would have been more interesting if I were able to understand it.
  5. According to the website, they used a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB. I don't think they had paddle shifters back then. :nonod:
  6. The dash through early morning Paris was NOT filmed in a Ferrari! It was filmed in a Mercedes Benz 450SEL sedan. The Ferrari soundtrack was added a week later. CLICK
  7. Maybe it could be a tour in sections with stop offs in Ohio, Colorado, Montana and wherever else is interesting along the way. People could participate in the whole trip or just in the parts convenient or interesting to them. Local people could coordinate the part of the tour in their area. I'll volunteer to coordinate the Colorado portion, perhaps along with Keith's help for the Western slope of the Rockies. We might even be able to include a track day and/or an autocross.

    Thanks Vets!

Four years in the Navy during the Vietnam era. Fortunatly, I was never in Vietnam but I have memories of bad treatment when in uniform off base in our own country. Friends returning from Vietnam were treated far worse than I was. Strangely enough, while stationed in Seattle, I found that wearing the uniform on leave while visiting Canada was far different. You could hardly buy your own drink or dinner and lots of people shook your hand and thanked you. My thanks goes out to all veterans regardless of when they served. They are what keeps this county free and IMHO, still the best place to live despite all the bad stuff that goes down.
  9. They stopped the video too soon, I wanted to see if the rider could walk after that.
  10. Is the other Ginetta still available? How about contact info for the seller? I'm looking for a Winter project.
  11. Uh, some deadbeat named Slngsht hasn't paid up yet.:jester:  Mazda, thanks for taking this on, I suspect it is much larger than anticipated.
  12. The whiskers are a little hard to see in the pictures. They are the only carbon fiber on my car. The chin spoiler makes a great place for a front license plate that doesn't interfere with the air flow to the I/C and radiator. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/946311785_Whiskers and chin001.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1253525911_Whiskers and chin002.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1371065126_Whiskers and chin003.JPG
  13. I have the Caterham CSR chin spoiler and whiskers (winglets) on my car. It is stable at 125 mph. It is still pulling hard in 5th when I have to brake for turn 1 at the end of the straight. I haven't had a safe place to go for top end yet so I don't know when it will hit the aerodynamic wall.
  14. My new personalized plates arrived this week. :hurray: The front one has the same background as the rear plate, the flash just picked up the reflective background turning it white. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1570317985_onablat003.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/179803277_onablat001.JPG :hurray:

  16. Great to see another Miata powered LSIS. :hurray: Good clean work, I love the engine turned dash and brass insturment bezels. How about a peek at the engine compartment?
  17. Call them at 800-359-6957. I doubt they list all parts on the website. I know they have dismantled at least 14 Miatas, I'm sure there must be some spindles left over.
  18. :iagree: An excellent idea!
  19. Shouldn't be any different than with a soft top and side curtains, the opening looks to be about the same size. It will just hurt more if you smack your head on the roof when getting in. Big as I am, I can get in and out with the full weather gear installed almost as easily as I can without it.
  20. Sign me up for one as well. Skip
  21. For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, He paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18. She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write "Spaghetti" on the back. He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin. One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife. "Honey,"she said, "you received a very strange post card today." "Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later," he said. The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white and fainted. On the card was written: "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Three with meatballs, two without. Send extra sauce."
  22. Flyin Miata has a Miata salvage operation. I'm sure they would have the spindles. www.flyinmiata.com I have no financial connection to them yada, yada, yada (except for turning over large chunks of my salary for the last 10 years in exchange for Miata go-fast parts).

    Worn out

Great news Arya, thanks for letting us know.
  24. :iagree: That's it in a nutshell! Especially the part about spare time and spending habits. :yesnod:
  25. The Miata.net forum looks similar to this one in structure but it has a link at the top called New Posts. That forum has over 44,000 members and 2.7 million posts. Using the New Posts link, you get a single listing of all the new posts that fit on 10 pages (about 285 of them in cronological order) without any sub forums. Any thread you looked at in the past has its title changed from bold to regular type and if it has had a new post since your last visit it will show a button that will take you to the first unread post. This New Posts link is a feature available to registered members and is not available to guests. You can sort through them very quickly. I don't know if that feature could be added to this format but it might give everyone what they are looking for. On this forum, I make use of the orange page icons on the right of the pages to show me which sub forums or threads have been posted to since the last time I was here. The main difference is that the button will only take you to the latest post, not the last one you read. You still have to drill down to get to the new posts but on a forum of this size that doesn't seem to be a problem for me.
