  1. That definition knocks my Caterham out of the LSiS running, my SV model came with a heater as standard equipment. I was planning on removing it sometime this Winter as it seems redundant what with all the footbox heat and it only heats a small spot on my right leg anyway.
  2. :iagree: Funny how that works, I used to spend all my spare cash (and then some) on my Miata, now it all goes into the Caterham and the Miata hardly gets driven, let alone any further modifications.
  3. It has the same registration number (LMU3) on the nose, perhaps it is the acutal reatored car.
  4. Our Miata club went to SD a few years ago. We stayed in Deadwood (which has legal gaming) and made day trips from there. IIRC we made it a four day trip since it was an easy days drive from here. There are lots of interesting things to do in the area with day trips to Devils Tower, some caves, Carhenge, the Crazy Horse monument, Mt. Rushmore, etc. They are headed there next week but I elected to stay here to attend the British Car Conclave. They are staying in Hill City this time at the Comfort Inn.
  5. I wouldn't trust it either. A sat nav in a new Elise sent a friend out of his way and down 5 miles of dirt road to get to my place. Even then it showed my place about a mile from where it actually is. It would have been a lot quicker (and cleaner) to use the directions I sent him by email. Mapquest isn't much better. I printed a map of Greeley, CO and spent 45 minutes trying to find an address which turned out to be quite a distance from where the map said it was. The street didn't even exist where the map said it should as that was in the middle of a large park.
  6. Anyone here planning on participating? I am planning on both the tour and the show. http://www.thecoloradoconclave.com/
  7. My SV has starvation issues if I let the tank get down to 1/4 indicated on the gage. I am assuming there are no baffles in the tank. I seem to recall there being some kind of "swirl pot" available to put in the tank to fix the problem but so far I usually just go out and fill it up again when it gets that low. This was the reason I stopped giving rides to the Boy Scouts volunteers at the LOG27 track day. It was late in the day so I just loaded it on the trailer and hit the road.
  8. The same local inspector only checked the VINs of the chassis and engine and asked me to start it up so he could hear how loud it was with the 3" exhaust poking out the side of the car. He spent far more time inspecting the custom motorcycle in front of me and then rejected it. He knew what the car was from experience inspecting others from RMSC. He spent less than 5 minutes looking the car over. We spent more time chatting about the car than inspecting it.
  9. :iagree: Well done!
  10. Thanks Al. My car was faster on the straights but when I rode with Nick in the 2-11 it was obvious he was faster in the corners. Nick is far more experienced on the track than I am and was running the sticky tires. I ram my street Avons as it was too cold to get heat into the Kumhos and I was sure it was going to rain (it did for a bit). If you get a chance to ride in the 2-11, do it, it was a real thrill ride.
  11. For another data point, the 1,800 cc turbocharged Miata engine in my Se7en put out 234 hp and 205 ft lb on a Rototest dyno. The Rototest dyno is bolted to the rear hubs. During the tuning sessions, we lowered the boost from 12 psi to 10 psi and added up to 40 ft lb of torque down low in the range and kept the peak hp and torque figures about the same. It runs cooler with the lower boost. The extra torque came from tuning, not from lowereing the boost. On the track at LOG27 at the suggestion of the dyno tuner, I shut off the electronic boost control and ran on the can which gives about 8 psi of boost. I'm still learning the car and the lower boost makes it easier to get out of the corners. With this boost level, the 2-11 could not stay with me on the straights.
  12. There was a couple there but I met so many people that I cannot recall who they were. I do remember seeing the 777 t-shirt at the event. I did get John Egan to sign the pedal box. We chatted about his drive of the FM Westfield. He was very positive about the car. I'm told there will be pictures and a writeup as a sidebar to his coverage of the LOG27. I offered to let him drive my car on the track or go for a ride with me but he politely refused. I got a ride in the 2-11 with Nick Adams driving on the Aspen track. Great fun, if I had a spare $80k... It was a great weekend, I had a fantastic time. However, it was cold and damp at the track day and I woke up with a sore throat this AM. I'm glad it held off until the event was over.
  13. LOG27 is underway. Looks to be about 200 Lotus and Lotus type cars here. There were 15 Se7ens in the concours, mostly original 7s and Caterhams. There was also a Birkin and a Donkervordt (sp?). Keith showed up during the show with the Flyin Miata Westfield. I took the pedal box cover to the autograph session and Emmo, Alain deCadinet and Peter Darley each signed one side of it. Next time I run into Peter Egan, he has promised to sign it as well. I have lots of pictures but no way to interface my camera with the hotel computer so I will post them in a week or so when I get home.
  14. 16" wagon wheels that came with the car for my street wheels, 15" Kosai K1-TS ( in Neon Orange) for the track. Had to have adapters made as the Kosai's are 4 x 100mm with a 38mm offset. BTW, I'd sell the wagon wheels and tires or trade them for some Panasports if anyone is interested.
  15. You should hold off any assembly work until you have the assembly manual. It will tell you not only the torque values, but the sequence to torque them. It will have a wealth of other information. If you can't get your hands on an assembly manual, a repair manual for a car that uses the Zetec engine will help some but the assembly manual for the car will be much better.
  16. You have them listed in sequence. You definately need a manual for the torque values if nothing else. You will also need a clutch alignment tool when you bolt the pressure plate and disk to the flywheel. Can you download the assembly manual on line? For the Zetec and Sierra trans, I'm not sure whether the bell housing bolts to the trans first and both to the engine together of if the bellhousing gets bolted to the engine and the trans added later. On my car, I found it much easier to install the transmission/bellhousing (trans and bellhousing are one unit on mine) into the car and then bolt the engine to it in the car.
  17. I have already upgraded the fan from the 9" supplied with the kit to a 12" Spal rated at 1230 CFM. It was the biggest that would fit on the radiator and still clear the sway bar. I have it set to come on at 88C. I plan to have the manifold, turbo and downpipe thermal coated this winter. Right now I am contemplating cutting a large triangular hole in the side panel just in front of the foot well on the driver side. I will then make a heatshield for the turbo and downpipe that will divert the hot air out the side of the car. Should help with engine temps as well as foot temps. Maybe I should cut a round hole in the side and mount a fan in it to draw the hot air out.
  18. I don't think you have much to worry about from me. That is definately not a horsepower track and your car is far more dialed in than mine. At the last track event it was still slower than my Miata was. I think it is mostly the driver not yet being attuned to the car.:ack:
  19. Keith, Do you have sponsorship money from Martini? Just curious why you are flying their colors and name. Are you bringing the 7 to the track on Friday as well?
  20. My car has 2.75" under the sump, a little more where the exhaust pipes go under the chassis for the rear exit. The only thing I have scraped so far is the exaust pipes on hard right hand turns on the track. I have to replace the aero-turbine muffler (something came loose inside and it rattles) and will try to get the dual pipes a little higher under the car. I'm also thinking about cutting off the upturned ends of the pipes and having it exit straight back. I had a friend drive the car while I listened and the exhaust is much quieter outside the car which I attribute to the upward angle of the exits.
  21. Just thinking that if there are any other USA7s members going, we should try to set up a time and place to gather and get acquainted.
  22. Bob Simon has informed me that the speedo that came with my '04 Caterham is not programmable in the range I need. It is the one with 4 dip switches on the rear. I am looking for a Caterham speedo with front button programmability. I will consider one that has the 10 dip switch configuration as well. Can anyone help me out? The 4 dip switch speedo is for sale or trade. It shows 34 miles on it.
  23. Offer the LEO a couple of laps, should solve that problem.
  24. If its taking up too much space and he wants to get rid of it, I'd be happy to bring my trailer and dispose of it for him. :yesnod:
  25. I think it would take a couple of laps just to get the clutch fully engaged!
