  1. Its the eventually part I worry about.
  2. I will do that but it might be closer to a fart than a blat. I do want to put a glasspack muffler on it to see what it sounds like.
  3. That looks great but I have neither the skills or $$$s to do something like that.
  4. So there is a Seven out there with ABS. Was it a hassle installing the system and getting it to work right?
  5. With my shaky hands I'd need an EMT standing by if I tried using a straight razor. Do tourniquets work on the neck??? I do shave my neck with a regular razor from time to time but like Gert its been about 40 years since I've had a clean shaven face. Probably wouldn't recognize myself in a mirror nor would anyone else if I shaved off the beard.
  6. I did pretty much the same. Labeled every wire and connector. When I decided I was not going to use a wire I removed it from the connector(s), coiled it up and put it in a box. I also made a test matrix of every wire, what its color code was, origin and destination and any connectors or color changes along the way. That saved me a lot of time especially when it came time to shorten the wiring loom by about four feet eliminating some of the in between connectors.
  7. You guys are cracking me up. If I were going to go for significantly more power I have a nice 1.8 Miata engine and most of the parts I would need to turbo it gathering dust in my shop. But I cannot see myself going through the huge task of converting it to rear wheel drive. A Subaru WRX engine and transaxle would be a much more logical choice. I want to get it on the road with the two stroke and see what living with a slow, noisy car with a smelly engine is like. I have plenty of fast cars I think to withstand the torque of a V8 you would need to drop that body on a more substantial frame.
  8. Yes, back to the build thread, sorry about the off topic excursion. I see a wiring label that appears to be marked ABS. Did you bring over the complete ABS system from the donor car? That must be a first for a Seven.
  9. That is the seller's picture from the CL ad. It is a 2 door sedan with a 383 CI engine. I think he called it a Super Bee or something like that. I wasn't really paying attention to it. He had just bought it, a car he had been looking for for a long time. I doubt I will restore the Saab, the goal is to get it on the road and see where I go from there. I kinda like the patina it came with and I do want to keep the two stroke engine in spite of all the suggestions I get to put in a much more powerful engine from a bike or Subaru. I see where the '97 was coming from. I fixed the title. I hadn't noticed that until your post. Thanks.
  10. At $525 each they ought to call them Walletbreaker instead of Daymaker.
  11. I only punch it from about 10 mph and it hooks up very nicely. With the sticky tires on a warm day a good speed shift into 2nd at 7k rpm will lift the front wheels a few inches off the ground. It has freaked a few passengers when it does that. It sometimes will break both rear wheels loose on the shift and slip a little to the side if the road is crowned but easily caught. I don't think the OP has a turbo in his immediate plans.
  12. I opened up the trailer and took a few pictures of the Saab. http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/scannon929/library/1967%20Saab%2096
  13. Someone is already doing that on the Miata.net forum but I plan to rebuild the two stoke engine and get the car on the road before thinking about horsepower transplants. I've heard of people putting Subaru flat fours and various 4 cylinder engines in them but that is far in the future for me. A two stroke scooter owner showed up at the Cars & Coffee and the exhaust smelled like strawberries. He said there are a number of scented two stroke oils available including one that smells like marijuana. Something about a car that puts out marijuana smelling smoke appeals to me living here in Colorado.
  14. Yesterday I was perusing the CL Miata offerings and the Saab ad popped up. My curiosity got the best of me and I drove over to have a look at it. The only rust I could find was some bubbles in the lower rear corner of one of the doors. No large dents and the magnet could not detect any bondo. The interior is in pretty good shape. As far as I could see with a flashlight and lying on the ground the bottom is in good condition with no rust holes showing. It has 96k miles. The title says it is a '67 not a '66 as in the ad. It is a one family car since new. It was parked 9 years ago when the engine seized. Asking price was $2,500. I looked at it, negotiated a deal for $1,800 and went home and got the truck and trailer and it is now mine, for better or worse. Talk about buying on a whim. Engine is definitely locked up. Should be a fun project especially if I could find one of the 850 cc Monte Carlo engines with oil injection. I believe the engine in the car is rated at about 42HP, lots of room for improvement. http://images.craigslist.org/00J0J_cxapjfxRi6Z_600x450.jpg
  15. Are you asking about my engine or the OP's engine? The last dyno on my car came out at 301 RWHP and 265 torque. I turned down the boost for the GBB and I estimate it is putting out about 275 at this time.
  16. The lower left is Peter Egan, the middle is Emerson Fittipaldi. On the near side is Alain de Cadenet and not visible on the far side is Peter Darley. They were guests at LOG27 held in Aspen, CO. I took the cover off and through the autograph line although Peter signed it when it was back on the car. He seemed puzzled that I would want his autograph. I offered him an opportunity to drive my car either on the street or during the track event but he politely declined. The Seven he built long ago was at the event and he knew instantly that it was his former car.
  17. Someone take Duane for a blat, let him drive your Seven, that should motivate him.
  18. If in the future you are planning on adding a turbo you should consider where the exhaust will exit. It will be coming from a different area of the engine and may require a different hole in the body. My Caterham came with a pre-cut hole for the four pipes of a Zetec header. When I installed the Miata engine and turbo the turbo turbine outlet was several inches further back than the hole for the headers. I had to design and have fabricated a down pipe that came out the back of the turbo, dropped down and forward before exiting through the existing hole. http://www.britishv8.org/Other/SkipCannon/SkipCannon-BA.jpg http://www.britishv8.org/Other/SkipCannon/SkipCannon-BB.jpg
  19. Unless they are boosted. The 1.8 Miata engine in my Caterham dyno'd out at 301 RWHP and 265 torque. Totally stock engine with the addition of a turbo, big injectors and a Hydra Nemesis ECU. I agree with the 15% difference which would put the Miata engine at 346 flywheel HP.
  20. Hmm. From that 2nd picture are we to infer that blond is you in drag contesting with the croc for your purse?
  21. Some states will issue an exit permit good for a few days up to a month. They usually cost $10 - 20 and no sales or property tax is collected until you register it in your home state. I've done this with dealers and private sales. Check with the DMV in the state where you are purchasing the car.
  22. Scroll down to the second topic. http://msn.foxsports.com/speed/page/2/ Scroll down further for a race between Sir Jack Brabham and Juan Manuel Fangio.
  23. I've been running the stock oil pan for 23k miles. It has about 2.25" clearance when I am in the car. I raised the engine as far as I could and still clear the nosecone and bonnet. I am very careful when I drive it to avoid road debris. A friend smacked it a hard one on a speed bump. From the sound I expected at least a crack if not a chunk missing but inspection revealed no cracks or holes and a little of the fins around the drain had lost some aluminum. I looked into a dry sump but for $2,500+ it gained less than 3/4" clearance so I decided to stay with the stock one. I can change out any number of oil pans for that much and if the engine blew a good used one isn't that expensive.
  24. If you are going to import it to Germany I think you should be looking at getting it direct from Caterham in England. Since it will be exported out of England you would not have to pay their VAT. I suspect Germany will want some kind of big tax on it. Looking on the UK Caterham site you can get a Roadsport 175 for £25.4k and it appears to include the 175 HP engine and transmission. http://uk.caterhamcars.com/cars/roadsport-175
