  1. It worked but this part wasn't there. There was a place for a code and I entered Lotus and it worked. The only surprise was that the $69 rate was only for weekdays, Saturday and Sunday cost $99 each. Is that correct or are we supposed to get the $69 rate for each day? Thanks for the help.
  2. OK, ya got me. I tried to make a reservation at the Ridge Tahoe and the Lotus code came back as invalid. The best rate was then $104 per day plus tax. I tried calling but the reservations office is closed Can you check this out and let me know?
  3. I don't know the answer to that. I just know it is very effective and very light. I think the spay on adhesive added more weight to the car than the MLI. I used scraps of MLI that was left over from insulating satellites. I didn't use it in the engine compartment where the heat from the turbo and downpipe would have melted it.
  4. In the link above you will find that Rotrex claims rotation in the area of 90k - 125k due to their traction drive. I agree that i looks like some kind of planetary drive using the rollers and bearings.
  5. Thanks for the Rotrex link. I wish they would have expanded on the overdrive mechanism for getting the impeller speed up into turbocharger range. I've been puzzling over the picture of the three bearings and can't decide how it works. I'm guessing that their referral to traction drive means that the bearings have a traction surface that interacts with the inner circumference of the housing but...
  6. If you can't find a Sierra diff, Caterham is now using BMW diffs. They use a cradle that allows installation without alterations to the frame (at least for the deDion suspension).
  7. The pictures would not post. :toetap05: Please delete this post.
  8. That sounds like Lizard Skin. Flyin Miata uses it on their LSx installations.
  9. Cupholder? That's way too civilized!
  10. Congrats! You have a ton of fun ahead building your car. Then the fun really begins when you start driving it.:driving:
  11. My Caterham SV came with an open Sierra diff. I put in a Quaife LSD during assembly. It now has 25k hard miles on it with about 1,500 on the track. It has handled my heavy right foot and 300 RWHP and 265 torque with no problems.

  13. Yeah, that would take care of 1st and a little bit of 2nd gear.
  14. I could not find any shop in the USA that was willing to work on the Caerbont speedometer. An email to Caerbont in England said send it and the minimum cost would be £35.00 + VAT and they would look into it, parts and labor extra. I then checked out aftermarket GPS units but the only one I could find that would fit in the 80mm hole in the dash only went to 60 mph. None of the electronic ones fit the hole that didn't look like they were styled for a hot rod. I tried Jon at Caterham in Denver but never got a call back so I called Hillbank Motors (the new Caterham dealer/distributor) in California. He had one in stock and considerably cheaper than the previous one I had purchased. I asked for some new wiper blades but he didn't have those in stock. He said they had not yet stocked many parts for the older cars. The speedo arrived a few days later and tonight I finally got the calibration to work (after a few emails to Caerbont) and all is well again. I can now remove the Garmin GPS I have been using as a speedometer.
  15. I used spray on 3M adhesive to attach multi-layered space craft insulation to the tunnel. There is carpet over the insulation. For the floor I glued the same insulation to the underside of the carpet. I also insulated the underside of the pedal box cover and made a standoff aluminum heatshield in front of the pedal box to deflect heat coming off the turbo and downpipe located just in front of the box. The car went from a foot cooker to pleasant enough to drive with sandals.
  16. a significant change in the power to weight ratio.
  17. My 2004 Caterham SV weighed in on corner weight scales at 1,360 lb w/o the driver and with a half tank of gas.
  18. My 2004 Caterham (Miata engine) has the main power to the rest of the car coming off the same terminal on the solenoid as the cable from the battery. Its not battery cable size but IIRC a 10 gauge wire.
  19. Its official, the Caterham F1 team has been sold. It will retain the Caterham name. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula1/28129627
  20. I think what he is looking for is the radiator that cools the water that gets heated up in the air to water intercooler.
  21. Sorry, I'm not a forum admin nor do I play one on TV. There is another thread on this subject you could have a look at.
  22. From that last quote my guess is that Honda will be the new owner.
  23. Since you thought you saw the mechanic putting in straight antifreeze it occurred to me that he may have purchased the premix version which is already a 50/50 mix.
  24. Burp it a few times to get any air out of the system. Run it until fully warmed up, let it sit until cold and check the level in the radiator. Top up as necessary, repeat until no more coolant is required. If you have an overflow tank that is designed to pull the coolant back into the engine as it cools off, make sure you keep the level at least at the minimum when cold to keep it from drawing air back in as it cools. 100% antifreeze has less heat transfer capacity than a mix. I find 20% antifreeze is about right at least for the warm seasons.
  25. John, Welcome aboard! More pictures and details on your car, please.
