  1. i should also note that yours in a 2001 vs mine a 2005 so there will quite a difference over those 4 years. I don't believe the SVT was even an option in 2001
  2. @Vovchandr Here is the brochure section for the "Roadsport" version of the Zetec stating 147hp. So maybe it depends which Zetec you have? And the Ford link i posted lists it at ~130hp, so i'm a bit confused since your numbers are similar. Were you expecting much higher? To get 200hp I think you'll need the SVT Zetec but i'm new to it all, so still learning and digesting a bunch of notes I have from the previous owners (for ex the lightened flywheel is 9lbs vs 32lbs for the stock flywheel)
  3. Ouch. Yes time for SVT. Or it might just be worth going newer with a Duratec.
  4. A few more showing the sunlight playing on the beautiful hips and curves @slowdude Thanks!! Interior is full leather in black
  5. thanks. It’s a Paint to Sample (Porsche’s wording for ‘we are going to charge you a $h!t load extra money for this’) colour called Linen Metallic. I have only ever seen photos online or 1 other Turbo in this colour so I’m quite lucky to have a very rare colour. In the sun it’s just amazing and it really pops. Yes they are RUF wheels. Good eye!
  6. @Vovchandr here is some documentation from the sales brochure I have for the SVT Zetec engine and a dyno chart provided by Rocky Mountain Sports Cars to the owner who purchased it and put in the SVT engine. If you are having a lot of issues with yours maybe it's time to consider a new one. The only challenge might be that these are now 20 years old so any donor Ford Focus SVT car is likely to have very high mileage. But a rebuild can solve that. Money can solve anything! in 2006 the pricing was: used SVT engine: $9400 Cam upgrade: $1000 light flywheel: $300 6spd gearbox: $1900 Total: $12,600 I have only had my car for 3 days, but I can safely say it's a rocket and I love it.
  7. Rookie mistake: I accidentally overfilled the fuel tank. Fuel leaked out and was coming out from under the car. Is there anything to be concerned about or is that the ways it’s designed to overflow ? I should have taken some pics. The car is 2005. Should the tank be inspected due to age ?
  8. With Brexit now in effect isn’t shipping to Germany the same paperwork / headache as shipping to the USA?
  9. well, maybe the cage would have passed, but then i'd have to have the aeroscreen on and then that wouldn't pass - i can't recall the specifics since the mechanic at the garage did it and the inspection. It wasn't the type of cage that accommodates the windscreen. no, unfortunately not carbon seats.
  10. Thanks for the kind comments. yes, the Mini is priceless - will definitely never sell it. The Caterham came with a cage since James tracked it a lot before me and he sold the bar. The cage had to be removed to pass road inspection here. The track day rollbar arrived from Redline the same day as I picked up my car (2 days ago!) and I just hadn't installed it yet. But here is it with a minimal install: top bolts, but not the bottom bolts for now - but will remove the suspension this week and get the bottom bolts installed. Thank you for thinking of my safety! And of course Cat's look better with the rollbar too!
  11. Hi all, I've been lurking on the site for a little while. I live in Victoria BC, I'm a long time British car lover - I inherited that gene from my dad. He had a 1958 Jag XK150 that he sold when I was 4 years old. I never forgave him for that . I still remember being 10 years old (37 years ago) and getting a ride in my cousin's Dutton 7 clone while on a family visit to the UK. Fast forward to this week and I picked up my 2005 Superlight R: https://usa7s.net/ips/topic/14296-2005-superlight-r-victoria-bc I also have a 1979 Mini and 1991 Porsche Turbo: https://usa7s.net/ips/topic/14076-the-other-cars-of-usa7s-members-non-se7ens-only/page/13/#comment-134136 Despite being a life long car fan I've never had the chance to hit the track or do any performance driving. So this week I'm off to our local track, Vancouver Island Motorsports Circuit (1 hr from Victoria) for my HPDE Level 1, and then a bunch of open lapping track days through the spring and summer. Cheers, Dave
  12. Here are my other 2 fun cars! 1979 Austin Mini: I have had this car for 30 years, since I was 17. I completely stripped it down shortly after getting it and rebuilt it all with my dad. It's priceless to me. Last spring I picked up a 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo (964 generation) which was imported from Japan. This spring I picked up my 2005 Superlight R:
  13. Thanks. That hex head bolt and washer is what I saw before somewhere. I just can't recall where! But you are right, they are big vs the poppers.
  14. They are probably all made in Asia.
  15. two questions today: 1. does anyone know where I can get a KPH face place (or KPH primary with Miles secondary) for the Caterham speedo? 2. does anyone know how to change the digital readout from Miles to Kms ?
  16. The car came new with a roll bar; the original build spec and photos show the roll bar. Then James bought the cage and sold the roll bar since he almost exclusively tracked it (or maybe the car came with both originally?). His older videos show the roll bar, and the newer videos show the cage. I'll scan all the docs I have and upload them tonight or tomorrow. I think stock SVT Zetec is 170hp https://www.car.info/en-se/ford/focus-na/focus-zx3-20-zetec-r-17153181/specs
  17. Thanks. The rule in Canada is you can bring in any car that is over 15 years old. In the USA it’s 25. it will look a lot better once I put the roll bar on! No ITBs. Disclaimer: I haven’t dyno’d it but I want to. I’m just going off all the paperwork I have: dyno chart , notes and emails from when the car was first built. I do recall seeing your post about getting more power from your Zetec. I can scan that and add it to your post or send it to you if that’s helpful.
  18. I seem to recall seeing a nice solution for covering up roll cage bolt holes: it was a nice black anodized aluminum fitting with a nice wide head on it. I just can't remember where I saw it, if it was on this forum or a UK forum / webpage / blog post etc. Does that ring a bell for anyone? Or does anyone have any nice and elegant solutions?
  19. Hey Folks, I've been lurking around here for a little while, but I'm thrilled to finally get myself into a Caterham. After what turned out to fortunately be a small hick up earlier this week today was the day!!! So behold my new to me 2005 Superlight R. This car was previously owned by James Wheeler, who was a member on this forum, and was imported to Canada last year. Today I took the 30 minute floatplane from Victoria, BC to Vancouver and returned by ferry with the car. Pics below. I've been a British car fan my whole life and I still have my very first car: a 1979 Austin Mini that I have had for 30 years (since I was 17). I also have a 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo - I'll post some pics in the "Other cars of 7 owners" thread. Fun fact: this car was a press/demo car for Caterham USA in 2005 and was first owned by Jon Nelson the owner of Caterham USA at the time. Here are the specs: - SVT Zetec engine with 200+HP - 6 speed - lightened flywheel - upgraded cams - 3.62:1 limited slip diff - widetrack front suspension Some other notable parts I have for the car which aren't shown: - center exit exhaust - SLR roll cage - aeroscreen - lap timer - Avon slicks mounted on the same style wheels - tonneau My first projects for the car are to install: - FIA rollbar - 5-3/4" headlights and the new lower style brackets. I'm really sorry but I just can't live with the high 7" lights! - LED tail lights These all arrived from Redline this week. I'm planning to use the car both on the road as well as open lapping track days, HPDE events, AutoX etc. Our local track is just an hour from me. Winter projects (I think) will be stripping a good part of the car down to learn it inside and out, and and a possible repaint in a loud colour. Caterhams are crazy cars and I think they need a crazy colour as much as I really do love the green. Safety/visibility of road morons is also a factor. I have a few colours mind so stay tuned. I'll start a "build" thread as I embark on this journey and I'm sure I will lean on the community here for support. So a big thank you in advance for all the knowledge and insight that I know many of you will share with me. I've already learned a lot just reading the other threads here. Lastly, I know there are several owners in the Pacific North West. If you end up in Victoria with your car (or without!) let me know, I'd be glad to meet up. Or maybe one day we can meet in the middle on the Olympic Peninsula and rip some twisty roads. They look divine! - Dave Fun fact: Harbour Air is the world largest all float plane airline. It's a magnificent way to fly! Victoria Harbour Victoria Harbour Flying into Vancouver Ready to roll! I made the ferry with minutes to spare! Home sweet home!
  20. I just ordered parts last week from him and they arrived yesterday
  21. Maybe try Chris at Redline? Assuming you’ve bought stuff from him before he might be open to that. Or any other UK places you’ve bought parts ?
  22. Update: it looks like we are back in business!!! The culprit was a broken fuse. Not blown but broken. That would explain why it was able to restart and die 1-2 times and then not again. we pulled a fuse from my friends Porsche GT3. Haha. Stay tuned for more updates!
  23. Yes EFI. Is there a chance that the fuel gauge is way off ? that 1/2 isn’t actually 1/2 it’s more like 0 ?
  24. I’m not sure. Newish car to me so still figuring things out! My friend nearby has a ‘98 so I’ll check his.
  25. Thanks Alex. another option could be low / no fuel. The gauge shows 1/2 but we added a few liters just to be safe. Is there a min fuel amount needed ? I can’t imagine that the amount of driving it’s had would burn through a whole tank but possibly evaporated over the winter ?
