  1. I’ve checked the cable and the threaded sleeve did not come out of the bell but, I was able to pull it out over a 1/4 inch. So I’ve adjusted the nuts and have about a 1/4 inch now. However after adjusting I’m still unable to get the car in gear when running. When stopped no issue, I can select all gears. I’m thinking clutch replacement, unless there are other things to check. Since I’ve never replaced a Caterham clutch, what’s the difficulty scale, and any special tools needed? thanks, Joe
  2. Thanks for the feedback, I’ll check the adjustment as a first step. Prior to this occurrence it shifted fine. When I looked at the linkage it seemed a bit loose, but I didn’t have any specs to work with. More to come. looking at this, the the jamb nut was in fact loose, so I’ll adjust there to start. In the picture below you can see there are quite a few threads showing on the barrel. Since I’m starting from scratch any recommended order to set the linkage?
  3. Hi @MV8 I have a 4sp, so I’ll check the cable as you’ve mentioned. Any advice on how best to adjust it? thanks in advance, Joe
  4. Hi folks, I’m looking for some guidance. My BDR was working well. However, when I tried to operate it today, it starts fine, but I cannot get the car into gear, forward or reverse, with the engine running. i can get it into all gears when not running, and if I place in gear and hit the starter it will move. Everything had been working well until today. Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated. The car has a clutch cable, not hydraulic and seems ok, but I’m curious if there are any adjustments I can check. Thanks in advance for your help. Joe
  5. Ah the BDR is moving along. It is a 4-sp. I’ve been checking the car, oil change, taking some drives in the area, seems to be pretty well sorted, Based on my limited knowledge. It is a hoot to drive, and what a great symphony of sound! I forgot how much I like RHD. There are a couple of things I’m trying to better understand but more on that later
  6. Any members have experience and opinions of ‘Just add Lightness’ Caterham 7 High level third brake lights, two light setup. I need to install something soon. If not these any others worth a look? Thanks in advance for your insights.

  8. Well, I’ve finally gone and done it. I’ve acquired a 1983 Caterham 1600 BDR, factory built, based in RI. Like many of you, my journey started with the Prisoner series, and it’s been a long road trying to find the right one. I’ve bid on a variety of cars over time, mostly projects. This one is well sorted and a hoot to drive. I need to figure out a few things, so I’d love to connect with anyone running a BDR. I’ll get a few pictures posted soon.
