While I am sure the entire $1 (if that) of your taxes that went towards the DMV payroll entitles you to special privileges, I kind of figured that wasn't going to be the case for me (I only paid $.50).
I asked around first, and despite having a DMV literally a mile down the road from me, I drove 40 miles each way to a DMV with a "Kit Car Lady". And even she had to look things up in the book. She was great though, after seeing the car and declaring it "awesome" she gave me a 6 month temp permit (which is unheard of and no longer allowed) to use the car since I had to wait that long until Jan 2nd.
If you had a rare medical condition wouldn't you seek out a specialist rather than going to a general practitioner?
I also think a lot to do with how well a visit to the dmv goes is dependent on ones own attitude too
BTW, the average DMV employee salary is $37,000 (factoring in management) and I believe some of the people who work the front desks don't get much more than minimum wage, so not exactly attractive to the cream of the crop
