  1. Where in CA? He will probably need to trailer it to the DMV and show it to them to prove it is a specialty construction vehicle, he needs to ask for an SB1578 (SB100) exemption. I had a similar problem because the NJ title code for specialty construction was what CA considers a reconstructed vehicle, so I had to show my car to the DMV and they changed the paperwork
  2. I don't think a seven owner should be calling anything ugly And many consider seven owners to be nerds Personally, I think the Elise and Evora are great looking
  3. Totally jealous! We have a Porsche Spyder that was bought for my son just after he was born, but unfortunately he will not likely ever be able to drive it. .
  4. Now you just need to find him a hot date .

The long version of this vid gets even better....
  6. As I suspected the Eye of Mine mount transmitted too much vibration for my liking. Hopefully they will take it back
  7. The exposure variation is likely caused by the fact that I am using a variable ND filter so I can experiment with different settings before settling on one thinner filter, that and the GP lens and chip isn't exactly the best. Mainly I was aiming for eliminating the jagged motion and jello effect of the camera. With such a wide lens, you wouldn't be able to eliminate lens flare without some sort of lens hood that is likely to show up in the frame. That said, I think the lens flare effects that shows up with this filter on is more appealing than without it. I don't have a picture of my set up, but it looks similar to this but with an ND filter on it http://www.snakeriverprototyping.com/image/IMG_0067.jpg I probably shouldn't have said "flimsy", I meant it looks like it will transmit vibration. I just ordered one anyway, figured I'd give it a try. I am currently using gear out of my work kit for mounting heavier cameras, and I know one day I will be on a shoot pissed off because the clamps I need are back home on the 7 :banghead: .
  8. The problem is for the $15+ shipping they charge you for that little gel filter, you can buy a pile of square gels, of course you would have to trim it which is a PITA. Also, that ND filter isn't nearly enough. I bought this underwater flat lens mount (without the sealant since my case is drilled for the mic and I am not diving with it) so I can mount much more ND on it, or any other filter too. You need to trick the GoPro into thinking it is darker out so that it changes the exposure and runs a slower shutter speed, this eliminates the "jello" rolling shutter effect and also gives it a more natural look because the background blurs more. This video (watch 740p) is done with running about 8+ stops of ND (the EOM ND is only like 1.5 stops), though I am planning to experiment with less (4-6 stops) as there is some loss of shadow detail and noise is introduced when going into darker areas. The road is pretty bumpy and I didn't even have to run it through the rolling shutter reduction software on iMovie The only catch is you need to use a very thin filter or it vignettes The L bracket looks a bit flimsy though, doesn't look like it would be stable enough over bumps .
  9. My car does it as well and my research came up with TADTS, well many of them at least. According to others on blatchat "The first motion shaft and laygear are dancing around a bit due to the fact that they are effectively idling with alternating accelerative and deccelerative cycles in time with the engine"
  10. New video of cars on Mulholland
  11. Oh cool! I will look into it. Thanks! Now I just need to figure out a good time to call the UK so my wife doesn't find out Sorry for the hijack Ian
  12. Even with the shipping costs? How long did it take to get them? Thanks ,
  13. Yup, already spoke with RK (been getting tires from them), they have two, I need four and someone may already have dibs on them. They are telling me it will be 6-8 weeks until the next shipment. I am well into the wear bars on mine, so this is a bit of a bummer. I already had to bend the stanchions to clear the 45 series CR500's and I haven't found any other 45 series 15" tire Been thinking about going to 13" wheels which will give me more options (and they are lighter) but Caterham USA hasn't returned the call. :toetap05: Thanks .
  14. Well for one, no one seems to have CR500's and I am being told it could be two months or more. I need tires now
  15. And the CR500's are much lighter. BUT, CR500's are becoming rather difficult and expensive to get, I am thinking about R888's which are half the price
  16. Found a few snaps from the look out point on New Years day
  17. I am 170lbs (and was 185lbs 7 months ago) and I absolutely love the composite seats in my car and find them super comfortable http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sad/533.gif .
  18. That is also Jay Leno in the Bugatti Atlantic (recreation) at the 18sec mark A couple of weeks ago he showed up in this 1917 Fiat Botafogo Special For those unfamiliar, the road is Mulholland Highway in Malibu, CA and the particular stretch is known as "the snake" which as the name implies is a super tight and twisty bit of the road that runs about 4 miles or so from a restaurant called the "Rock Store" (that is a motorcycle hang out) to the top of the hill where there is a look out point to stop and hang out. There is no real event, pretty much every weekend you can see cars like these driving the road though some days are better than others. Best days to go are during holiday weekends, especially new years day. Mulholland highway is like a backbone road that runs across the top of the mountain and there is a lots of little side roads that split off and offer amazing driving. All of this is like a 30 minute drive from Los Angeles I take the Caterham up there fairly frequently

    Uphill Battle

It's Los Floras Canyon rd in Malibu. The wide angle lens of the gopro camera makes the corners look not as tight as they are in real life

  22. I did, before you showed up and started talking about horsepower
  23. :banghead: You don't need that much torque in a 1200lb car! Why stop at a merely one turbo? Why not add two? And might as well add a twin clutch automatic, AWD, electronic diffs, ABS, big Brembos and some 19" wheels while your at it. You know one can't let any of dem Nissan GTR's pass after all!!! :driving: You win! I guess after 13k miles I know nothing about how these cars drive :seeya: .
  24. Well, yes, otherwise you are just arbitrarily commenting about adding power without knowing the consequences That's not what I call big horsepower and as I noted you can get that kind of power already from Caterham without the complication, heat, power delivery, etc of a turbo. And yes, they will run fine on pump gas, I know several people with such motors And hence my [tongue in cheek] comment earlier about doing it wrong and needing to find better suited roads/track. If you regularly are racing on a track where the straight is so long that you are hitting 150+mph perhaps you should have bought a Corvette But again, a track day is not a race, so what does it matter if you get passed on the straight? Is it just ego? Look, if someone feels a need to run big power or turbo their car, that's their choice, but you asked why someone would feel it is unnecessary..... .
