About 250 miles all together. The I-5 portion was novel for about 1/2 hour, then I was just a tiny car in heavy traffic. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/Fall%20Drive/i-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/Fall%20Drive/dwarfed.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/Fall%20Drive/red-truck.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/Fall%20Drive/blur.jpg

Any reason you both went with the brooklands set-up vs. say the carbon lip type wind deflector? Going for a more historic look?

Caterham SV Rolling Chassis at Sevens & Elans
supersportsp replied to 11Budlite's topic in Cars For Sale
Duratec, schmuratec... This car needs a Hartley H1 V8! http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1562068.htm -
Also, what wheels are you running in the top photos?
-
Get crackin'! Sounds like a perfect project to get you through a long Bozeman winter... I imagine it is quite a bit easier to attach the riveted aluminum panels to the flat steel than tubes.
-
I have often wondered what a bike frame builder would think it would take to build a Lotus Seven style frame using a tube vs. square steel stock.

Where to sell my CSR 260
supersportsp replied to yellowcsr260forsale's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I will tell you all of the places I looked while searching for my car. I was looking for an SV as well. - Here - Lotustalk.com - Hemmings - eBay Motors - California Caterham Club - Caterham USA - Various Caterham dealers - Craigslist Of those, you will by far and away get the most views/exposure on eBay. -
Its all relative, but you solution actually required thought. I was going to use cardboard, but then I was like, why not just duct tape it? So, what I am reading here is that there is some belief that the heater core needs the ventilation passing through it? If the bypass valve is working properly, wouldn't there be limited risk here?
-
Your solutions are all pretty high tech. I just used three pieces of duct tape over mine. Question. Is there a way to block this down stream instead of at the inlet so it still gets airflow to the core, just not allowing any to go to the passenger compartment?
-
Are you still selling these? You never responded to my PM. Counter offer? Going to look elsewhere very soon.
-
Sean. I sent you a PM.

I spoke with Ben at Caterham USA/RMSC tonight and he told me 5w 30 is the way to go. Thoughts on this?

I have a 2.0 Zetec non-SVT motor. What oil weight should I be running? I am having a hard time tracking this down for some reason.
-
V-Robb, you can probably fit in an S3 (standard chassis) car. I just got one and I was on the fence for quite some time between an SV and standard car. Length shouldn't be an issue unless you have really long legs. I am 6'2", 33-34 waist and 200 lbs. It is snug for certain in the hips, but not uncomfortable. The biggest difference for me with the SV chassis was the massively larger foot box. I too am a size 12, and a wide size twelve at that. But, I can make my car work with my Vans and quite well with narrower shoes than that. Forget it with running shoes etc. If you are planning on putting some serious miles on it, I think you should probably consider the SV, if only for greater comfort over longer distances.

Caterham Questions, and some Zetec too...
supersportsp replied to supersportsp's topic in General Tech
athens7, thanks for the info. Is the cut-off valve a Caterham part or something you installed? If you don't mind providing a little more info, maybe even a photo if it is custom, I would appreciate it. Thanks for the suggestions! -
Caterham Questions, and some Zetec too...

I will have to try the cardboard over the heater intake method and see how that works. My foot well seems to be pretty well insulated. The box itself is insulated with a silver heat resistant adhesive fabric, and there is an addition of what looks to be a heat shield on the front section with more of the insulating fabric on it. The ambient heat is there, but I am definitely getting heated airflow from what appears to be the heater output at the top of the foot well. Hopefully the cardboard cover will do the trick. I did make sure the water cut-off valve was shut as well. Thanks for the tip on that one. Didn't know I had it. Thanks for the info on the jack points. I have a low profile aluminum floor jack so I shouldn't have any problems. -
Questions for you Caterham owners (or Caterham knowledgeable folks). 1. What are the options for jacking points with an S3 deDion chassis? 2. For those of you with the heater, do you have issues with hot air coming in even with the heater off? Seems that mine is flowing air out of the engine compartment regardless of whether the fan is engaged or not, especially at speed. Is there some sort of flap that should be closing to keep this from happening? 3. My car only has 5k on it and I am the fourth owner. Since it is 10 years old now since it was put on the road, I am thinking a complete fluid change is in order. Recs for trans, diff and brake fluid? I also plan to flush the cooling system. Zetec questions: 1. I have an 2.0 Zetec that was either Raceline built or has Raceline goodies. Carbed and supposedly good for 185 hp. What oil weight should I be running? How about what oil filter? Any issue with running full synth? 2. What is the oil capacity? Gracias in advance.

That is my car. It was in Chevy Chase, MD. The guy had been trying to sell it since January. I am 99% positive he is not a member here as he never posted it for sale here. The only places I saw it were Craigslist, eBay and LotusTalk.com. Looks like he tried to trade it for someone's 996 at some point. He wanted something more practical.

Great advice. I plan on going through the car thoroughly before I push it at all. I would like to change all the fluids out and tighten anything up or that has worn out ASAP from arrival. The seats are being replaced primarily due to my size. With the standard Cat seats, I have nearly zero wheel/thigh clearance. A lower profile seat creates valuable (and safer) room for me here. I am not a fan of the wheels from a cosmetic perspective nor am I a fan of those tires from any perspective. I like the clamshells on an original car, but I bought this car as a track toy so lift is a concern. I also like the look of the cycle fenders better, especially when paired with other more modern attributes. Got an email from the previous owner this AM. Car is on the truck and headed this way.

First, I want to thank JohnCH for being my constant peer pressure provider, potential car finder, and all around resource for all things Se7en the last year and a half. Thanks John! I owe you one for certain. After over 18 months of research, digging, waffling, classifieds stalking, test drives, negotiations and fretting, I finally bought a Caterham. 1997 deDion 5-speed 5k miles Raceline Zetec said to be putting out 185 hp It has been for sale for quite some time and I have been talking the owner about three months now. It will be loaded on the truck tomorrow afternoon for the long journey from MD to Seattle. Hopefully arriving soon enough for some dry weather before the rains set in. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/IMG_6486.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/IMG_6489.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/IMG_6498.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/IMG_6523.jpg Looking forward to making it my own and driving the piss out of it. New wheels/tires, cycle fenders and composite seats are first on the list. To be followed shortly by a beefier roll bar and other goodies.

FS: Westfield SEiGHT - Ford 302 V8 - Dallas area
supersportsp replied to manik's topic in Cars For Sale
The dealer didn't post any of this. You would probably need to click on the link to their site above and get in contact with them. I doubt they even know this site exists. -
So, the guy you bought this from claimed this was God's own Cross-flow in the car. Curious as to what you think of it? Have you driven any other cross-flow Caterhams? How is the driveability?

switching to widetrack suspension
supersportsp replied to MNlotus's topic in General Sevens Discussion
What you seek. https://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=111_112&products_id=219&osCsid=772196ff6e81a6fd5a465ecb09fcaa78 I believe that the wide track also significantly reduces your turning radius.
