  1. Looks like you are running CSR (or CSR style) front fenders. But it also looks like you are running an offset that doesn't quite mesh right with them as the fenders extend to the inside significantly more than the tire. How much were you losing on top speed to the faster cars? Your laps times seem to be about 4-5 seconds slower than GT2/3 times based on the lap records for Thunderhill that I was just looking at.
  2. 6'2", 202, 34 waist and size 12's here. I fit in my standard chassis Caterham, but it is tight. I drove several standard chassis cars as well as an SV and sat in a Westfield before buying mine. To me, easily the biggest dimensional difference between a standard and SV chassis is footwell space. I didn't note the cockpit width as much and the steering wheel to thigh clearance seemed largely unchanged. I can get away with Van's in my car without feeling like I am endangering myself. Narrower shoes will help. Even in an SV, you aren't going to want to wear anything of a wider profile. You should be fine length wise unless you have really long legs in a standard car. What you want to be careful of is thigh to steering clearance. Two of the three standard cars I drove (and also the SV to an extent) I had issues with this which made driving uncomfortable and had me worried about accident avoidance etc. Smaller steering wheels (flat bottom as well), lowered or lower profile seats and dropping the floor an inch can help here.
  3. Nope, that is a standard chassis car.
  4. Looks like the widow finally sold it, or it is maybe there on consignment. The guy who was 'helping' sell the car wasn't very helpful or responsive to anyone's inquiries.
  5. I agree with you on this. The myth that global warming is a fraud needs to be put to rest.
  6. Ignorance is bliss...
  7. Here is my argument for all the non-believers in global warming/climate change and how it applies to the auto industry. Who cares if we are causing global warming with our CO2 emissions. What is indisputable is that fossil fuel emissions are bad for us and bad for our surroundings. Think of earth as your garage with the door closed. Think of fossil fuel emissions as your '73 Eldo idling inside. Think of you as you sitting in the '79 Eldo. At some point, you are going to get sleepy and take a permanent nap. I don't think anyone can argue with that logic. The earth is a sealed system. Our pollutants don't just jettison off out into space. We have a huge garage with some absorptive attributes (ocean/trees), but at some point that '73 Eldo is going to fill the place up and we are all going to take a nap.
  8. Some questionable aero implementation here. Is it me, or does that front wing divert air directly into the jumble of suspension bits?
  9. Didn't hit reserve at $20k.
  10. It is real. http://www.themedifastplan.com/medifast-coupons-promotions/
  11. I am in for the PNW part of the tour, perhaps the Idaho and MT portions as well. I spoke with JohnCH about it already. Love the car.
  12. Why are you guys trying to convince him to buy something he didn't ask for? He obviously isn't a newbie and knows what he wants. I looked pretty hard at original S3 cars in my search. I either wanted a nice S3 that I could perhaps historic race, or a much newer Caterham. Why do people buy Birkin's with live axle's, why do people buy Stalkers with truck motors? While all of our cars will depreciate for quite some time, his nice S1/S2 with documentation will appreciate.
  13. Did your car weigh 1225 as it currently is (brooklands, no spare etc.)?
  14. ...I went ahead and weighed my car. 1296 lbs. - Full tank of gas - Doors were on - Top, jack/tools and tonneau in the 'trunk' - My car has a 2.0 carbed Zetec and DeDion rear - Heater - Spare tire was on - Log-like Caterham 15" wheels Interestingly, almost perfectly balanced without me in the car. LF: 321 RF: 317 LR: 328 RR: 330 Add in my 200 lbs, and I am sure it skews heavily to the left and to the back. Need to get threaded adjusters so i can corner balance... I got the car aligned and put on some new shoes in the form of Toyo T1R's, which were the lightest/stickiest choice outside of getting some Avon CR's. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/tgodbout/front-hood-off.jpg
  15. Or you could go to any truck weigh station or transfer station (dump) to have them weigh the car. At least around these parts, you can find truck weigh stations that can tell you the weight even if no one is manning it.
  16. This car has all sorts of wackiness. Definitely has Caterham mixed in with what appears to be period Seven items. I love the location of the e-brake and the rear-view mirror could best be described as interesting...
  17. If you have a insulated down jacket, you are going to be toasty. I drove my car today to get the tires changed and some other minor work. It was about 28 when I left. I have an extremely warm Salomon insulated down jacket which I can hardly ever wear here in Seattle because it is soo toasty. Had the doors on, the heater running, some light spring ski gloves and I was warm as can be. I imagine if I had the side doors off it wouldn't have been quite so pleasant, but the heater didn't really seem to be contributing much to the cause.
  18. Anniversary editions are rarely worth more than a very small premium over their standard versions. People always think they are, but when it comes down to it, they are simply option packages most of the time. From what I understand of the 40th Caterham, it was simply a nicely optioned car. Like a Weissach Porsche 911 or a 10th Anniversary RX-7. Usually there are no performance mods on packages like these. I paid $25k for an 4k mile '97 Caterham this summer. My car has all the options of the 40th (that I can tell) plus I have a mildly built Zetec. I think he should be happy if he can get $30k, especially in the dead of winter.
  19. This car has been on Ebay about every 3-4 months for the last year an a half now. As far as I recall, it has never met reserve and actually been sold. I watched it closely every time it came up. So, their talk about Ebay sales falling through is more dealership fallacy.
  20. 1082. Without driver.
  21. http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/243844/electric_caterhams_coming.html "An electric-powered Caterham is just around the corner. The sports car firm’s boss – Ansar Ali – has revealed that hybrid and electric powertrains are in development, and that a prototype should be seen before the end of the year. Interestingly, the car is likely to be developed in motorsport, an avenue Caterham views as a testbed for the new technology. There could be a one-make racing series starring an electric or hybrid Caterham by 2011, which, depending on the outcome, could lead to a road car a year later. The hybrid and electric drivetrains in question are being sourced from other, unnamed manufacturers. They’re expected to weigh around the same as Caterham’s existing petrol engine and gearbox combinations, meaning the performance of its cars shouldn’t take too much of a dent. News of Caterham’s forward-thinking technology has emerged at the Tokyo motor show, where the plucky British sports car brand is one of only three European brands on display, alongside Lotus (who unveiled the striking Exige Scura) and Alpina."
  22. Hello! Is that a real GT 350 under the cover and other stuff? Do they know what that is worth?
  23. I was looking at this as well. It really isn't a kit as much as it is a rebuild from what I can ascertain. Sounds like he binned it, then had to repair it (or bought it that way). If I recall, the listing states it is already registered in CA with the SB100 waiver. If the repair work was done right, this could be a great deal for someone. I would have considered it very closely if I hadn't found a car already.
  24. Don't you mean 'rebuilt?' As a pretty new owner myself, and someone who spent 18 months looking for a car, I can sympathize with you. Even in the US market, it is tough to find a Caterham for sale. I can only think of a couple available now. I looked at Westfields as well and would have gone that route for the right price. I was looking almost exclusively at used cars though, not kits. I would have considered a kit if I could have gotten a good deal on one. I briefly looked at the FM Westfield kit until I realized I would be into at least as much as buying a used Caterham.
