  1. That is John Hartley's car.
  2. According to Ben, that is not the case. He was on the team that took a Caterham to the wind tunnel in the early 2000's to see if they could make any major improvements in getting it to cut through the air. He was an engineering intern with Caterham UK at the time. There is an article someone posted out of Car (UK) magazine that covered this project. It talks about Ben in the article I believe. Anyway, I was talking to him specifically about cockpit buffeting solutions and that his when he brought up the comment about the rear wings. I believe the reason buffeting 'improves' with a brooklands or aero screen is that you are in much more direct and consistent airflow.
  3. For Caterham owers: I would think with a set of the small Caterham deflectors and the Caterham half-doors, you would have the same effect. I ran my deflectors and a hastily made cardboard half-door as a test earlier this fall and it worked pretty well. Ben at Caterham USA told me that most of the buffeting is due to wind hitting the rear wings and forcing air pressure into the cockpit. Thus, having something at that level to block that air flow out helps significantly. I have also been experimenting with Airtabs. http://www.airtab.com/en/. I placed a couple just ahead of the cockpit opening in several positions. It was an improvement, but hard to say how much. That all being said, this is an interesting potential option. JohnCH has made some super side deflectors for his Westfield. I am sure he will chime in.
  4. What was the result from this weekend's activities? Satisfaction or a return visit to the drawing board?
  5. That is one of the more impressive roll cages I have ever seen on a Se7en.
  6. I would be very tempted to put my car up for sale if this guy gets asking price.
  7. I am interested in this conversation. After my second outing at the local kart track, I noted that I seem to be puking some fluids out of my carbs. I didn't think it was engine oil, not thick enough, but perhaps I am wrong. I am running DCOE's on a Zetec.
  8. "The most race winning 7 kit on the market." Hmm, I would say there are some Caterham's, Westfields and Ultalites that would argue with that.
  9. My dad was briefly a Panoz dealer. I think he sold one AIV roadster. I love how we think that 2600 lbs is a porker and handling "would be down." F1 cars weigh more than a lot of Se7ens. These actually handle fairly well, but they do have a rather high COG thanks to the upright seating and the tall, top heavy motor.
  10. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1494142577_DSC02297.JPG I take it this is a before shot?
  11. Don't tell the wife that you are 285 or that you are upgrading already? I am mighty impressed you can get yourself into that thing. I am 6'2 and about 205 and my S3 chassis is quite snug. I drove an SV and it was relatively roomy, but not 6'6"/285 roomy. Enjoy the car. Looks fun and I like the color combo.
  12. Just out of curiosity, have you dyno'd your car? Your motor set-up is very similar to mine, and I think my motor is more like 160-165 hp. The guy I bought it from told me 175, but I think that is optimistic, even after my recent carb tuning. Perhaps I have just gotten used to the power?
  13. After looking for 18 months, and continuing to watch the market after I bought my car last year, you can get cars as low as the high teens if you are patient and willing to do some work on them. I think if you want a car that is ready to go and that shouldn't have any issues, $25k probably a realistic expectation. Most folks selling their Caterhams always seem ask for $35k, whether it is 5 years old with 2k miles or 20 years old with 20k miles. It seems like the default price. The older higher mile cars almost never sell at this price though. The guy I bought my car ('97 deDion with 5k miles) started at $30k and it was on the market for many months. I ended up buying it for a little under $25k. Your absolute cheapest new option is likely going to be $40k at the low end, so if you aren't in a hurry, you might be better off going used. I am up in Seattle if you want to trek up to check out an S3 chassis Caterham. I know there are several in Portland, including a CSR model. With my size (6'2", 200lbs) I was on the fence between the SV and S3 chassis. If I could have found a reasonably priced SV, I likely would have gone that route, but they seem to be rare on the used market and are typically much newer and thus more expensive.
  14. That is a tasty spec sheet. Pretty much exactly what would have ordered in that chassis.
  15. Tell him to hurry up so he can respond to my email looking for hoses.
  16. More Atom or X-Bow-esque in my opinion.
  17. Seems to be nicely spec'd. 18. Not mine. Saw this on the California Caterham Club site. Seems to be a pretty good deal, especially if he is motivated and flexible. http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/showthread.php?t=1564 "1997 Caterham 40th Anniversary Edition Special Paint, Dedion Chassis, Full Weather Equipment Crossflow with 5 Speed, Special Wheels, Only 3300 original miles. Located in CA but has Utah paperwork. I don't think you will find a better car than this, I'm forced to sell. I have it listed at 28k, but willing to negotiate. for pictures please email me at tonyrocks99@yahoo.com Please, only serious buyers. Thank you. Tony"
  19. Other than me having a tuned Zetec, this pretty close to my car including the mileage when I bought it. If it can be had at the Craigslist asking price, it would be a pretty good deal.
  20. Now we know why this thing weighs soo much.
  21. Not exactly a new Seven. I just submitted your coverage to AutoBlog. Great work! It will be interesting to see how many folks can kill themselves in one of these. You should be able to set the track record at any track that Indycar doesn't run at in the US. How about a 'Ring time in one of these?
  22. You make it look like this? See much '74 Cuda there? http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/media/img/utcc/IMG_8580.jpg
  23. Where did you get the diffuser?
  24. I want pics and first hand accounts of the Lotus T125. http://gglotus.org/blog/?p=1404
  25. Great article on the GRM site about anti-roll bars. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/lean-less/
