  1. There is the Soviet "Screw" Tank
  2. Well, the gay couple in my parent's neighborhood had a meticulously well maintained Z4. Also a meticulously well maintained house. To generalize, gays make pretty good neighbors. In all seriousness, what you drive doesn't define who you are, people are individuals and I'm happy for whatever makes you happy (so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else). I've known people who think that the Celebrity was the height of automotive achievement. Still, I'm not buying an automatic any time soon.
  3. There are at least 2 Westfield rally cars out there (well, more like rally cross). But they don't seem to have any problems with ground clearance. Of course a big old sump guard helps too. 4. I found a Cd of .620 and frontal area of 15.82 ft^2. That makes the Cd*A of 9.8. Even if you use .70 for Cd its only 11.1. That puts a Caterham somewhere between a Caprice wagon and an Escape Hybrid Numbers are from: http://www.mayfco.com/tbls.htm
  5. Great looking car. I was really tempted to fly down to Texas to check out this car when I saw it, but something about no garage and no time... Enjoy!
  6. It's my understanding that carbon fiber blocks radar and some other electromagnetic radiation. That's one reason that track transponders clearly state that you shouldn't mount them behind metal or carbon fiber. I think fiberglass might be ok.
  7. Thanks! That would be awesome. The last couple times I've looked at sevens it's been on miserable days, for some reason people don't want to go for a drive when it's 50 and raining.
  8. I might show up just to check out the sevens (I'm still looking for one of my own).
  9. I really love Rock Auto, except for every delivery coming FedEX. I have always found the parts I'm looking for and cheaper than anywhere else. I just noticed they have a small version of the magnet on the July Newsletter. It also said this, "If your vehicle is chosen, we will make sure to send you plenty of magnets to share with friends and family, and make you the envy of your car club." Congrats again!
  10. I just ordered some new brakes for my little Mazda Protege, but check out the free bonus I got. A nice little fridge magnet, that looked very familiar. Congrats Andrew. How do you get your car featured on the magnet? Sorry about the crappy picture, I had to use the Photocopier/Scanner to get it.
  11. Congratulations on the FTD! Also congrats to Dave for winning the show class! Every time I drive to Ann Arbor I nearly cause an accident trying to see if he's got the DAX out. It was a really great show. I spent half of the time telling my girlfriend about every one of the cars that my Dad used to own whenever we'd see one. Part of the time was also spent convincing her that a Seven is cooler than an Elise and that I won't die as soon as I buy one. That might be an uphill battle, but for her sake I can't replace her with a Seven until work slows down a little and the odds of still having a job in 6 months improves a little.
  12. I was out there for a little while today. The STM-7 looked really good. I didn't see many of the runs, but it looked really quick too. I stopped by a couple times, but didn't see you by the car. I did talk to Dave Watkins for a while though. I'm a little disappointed, it sounds like there were a lot more Sevens last year.
  13. Sounds like a rough weekend. Mine may not be so bad, but my girlfriend was in the ER on Sunday in Buffalo for a really bad UTI and their bedside manner really left something to be desired. She had to wait 3 hours for a sterile cup (every hour they would come in and ask why she didn't give them a sample yet) and another 3 for some painkillers and antibiotics. I also saw a guy that was stabbed in the face waiting for over an hour before anyone touched him. All of this while the nurses joked and bitched with a nearly empty waiting room. There may be something to this socialized health-care I keep hearing about.
  14. I have been searching too. It's from the ADAC Rosenheim 30 Jahre. So I think it's the 30th Anniversary for ADAC Rosenheim. It's car number 28. And there are 2 more pictures I could find. Unfortunately I couldn't find a participant list http://www.ovb-online.de/storage/pic/bilderserien/tagleben/tl_08/040908_september_mv/230908_adac_unbez/772761_1_img_0465.jpg http://www.ovb-online.de/storage/pic/bilderserien/tagleben/tl_08/040908_september_mv/230908_adac_unbez/772760_1_img_0468.jpg from http://www.ovb-online.de/freizeit/fotoserien/tagleben/bilder/cme20378,0,0-pg1.html
  15. If you're interested in creating a space frame using solidworks I would definitely recommend Weldments. You can actually export a cutlist which lists how long and what type of tubing for each part of the frame. If you set it up right you can even print up drawings for machine mitering. You can also use Cosmos or Ansys workbench and "test" the frame, though I worry about the accuracy of Cosmos. I used to use a lot of Solidworks in college, but I haven't touched it in a year or two. I kind of miss it.
  16. If my job were a little more secure right now I'd be all over this, but the price seemed too good to be true at first glance. The price dropped a lot since the last time I looked. The original base price was $17,590, now its $12,990. However, once you add in the Trans-Atlantic shipping $3,875 (which is new) its only a $725 discount. Several of the options are also cheaper. Nylon Bushings went from $200 to $162. It's still an amazing deal and I don't mean to threadcrap, just wanted to get over the "what's the catch?" initial reaction.
  17. I think I'll hold off for a little while, I might need even that $8500 if the heavy duty truck industry keeps slowing. Besides, where am I going to drive a seven in a Michigan winter?
  18. Congrats!!! This is one I looked long and hard at, until the economy tanked. Now I'm thinking I'll have to wait another year to get a seven (until the economy improve or I have enough savings).
  19. I'm a Florida native, but I moved out of the heat for school and haven't looked back sense. I'm 24 and have spent the last year working for a large defense contractor in NJ as a programmer. My background is Material Engineering, but I ended working on a Mechanical Engineering project, Baja SAE at Cornell. I stuck around an extra year to get a Masters in Systems Engineering. I'm actually getting ready to move up to Kalamazoo, MI in a few weeks to start a new life designing transmissions for big rigs. I'm looking forward to actually being able to afford a house, although I really just need the garage and a bed. I'm planning on finding a Cat or Westfield in the next year or so. I'd like to build one on down the road but I don't have the stock of tools built up. http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/934857678_170606047-L.jpg Above is the last car while I was still in school. I don't know if you can, but I had a bit of an influence in the design of the nose . I was one of the founders of the team at Cornell, so I've sort of been a part of the one off car design from beginning to end. My main responsibility was suspension design, but we had a small team so I've done it all: metal fab, mill, lathe, clay modeling, composites, computer modeling, painting...and whatever else you can think of. My dad was a car nut and I got drawn into it too. I've wanted a se7en since I first saw one, mind you that's probably not all that long ago compared to everyone else around here. So I figured, with some income and some time finally it's about time I did something about it. I look forward to contributing to the forum and the se7en lifestyle.
