You are too kind, Ed. I'm glad I could help. Dave

Nah, vids like that are fine. It's the ones where they hit stuff that might be off-putting. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif

Yipes! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/eek6.gif I wonder if he turned into pit lane at the end of the straight for a change of trousers.

I think it's a very good thought, Al. However it is implemented I think fundamentally it is about: a) making it easy for people who may not yet be active participants to find an example of the car they're interested in near them, and b) making it clear to them to not be shy about asking an owner they don't know for a ride. As has been pointed out, most of us love the opportunity to show off our cars and give rides (any excuse for a blat, right? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif ) It could be a dedicated "score-a-ride" section, or just the ability to easily search/sort the members database, or even the threads in the "Members Rides" section, by location and/or car type. If for whatever reason a member doesn't want people contacting them for a ride, maybe there could be a way to opt-out of the search results. (No idea how difficult any of that would be to implement, mind you). Anyway, my $0.02. Dave

There's a post >here that indicates that the 691M had the stronger main caps from the 711M, but with the older style cam followers. Dave

Yeah, that struck me too. I was sure that guy approaching the car towards the end was going to be an official coming over to say, "OK. You're done." But, nope. Just yank out the poor cone and sends him on his way.

Wow. You'd think after the 12th spin he'd have quit just trying to pitch it into every corner hoping for the best and flooring it at every opportunity. Also noticed he had a passenger for the last couple. If an instructor, pretty light on the instructing; if not, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

You could try this Skip fellow referred to in a post to the USA Sevens list a few months ago:

Nah. I was 27 when I built my Caterham and I still wish I'd managed to do it earlier.

Hi Ed, I may be able to help. I have two stanchions that were replaced as part of the windshield assembly after an accident. One is fairly bent, but IIRC the other is probably usable; at least as a template. I will double check the condition when I get home this evening (or worst case tomorrow morning) and drop you a PM. 13" performance tire options are pretty limited on this side of the pond. The ones I'm aware of are: Avon ACB10 Avon CR500 Proxes RA/1 Yoko A032R Kumho Ecsta V70A Kumho Victoracer V700 The big hitch is the relatively limited selection of widths/aspect ratios available among these. I'd really like to stick with a 70 series tire for ground clearance on road use since I don't need the tread width for my modest HP, but damned if you can find any decent 70 series 13" tires. The 185/70R13 Yokohama A021 would be perfect but Yoko doesn't officially import the A021 at all. AIM Tire (www.aimtire.com) used to carry Yoko A048's and A021's in useful sizes for a while for (I think) the Spec Racer Ford crowd, but I think maybe SRF has changed tires and they're getting rid of the last of their stock. On their website they're listing A048 185/60R13 at $75.00 while supplies last. I haven't contacted them to see how many they have and/or if they'd sell them for something other than SRF (since I'm not sure that size is DOT approved here) but that might be an option. I emailed Yokohama USA a while back asking about bringing the A021 to this country more widely as many BlatChatters in the UK rave about it as a fast road tire, but never got any response. When I think BEC I usually think of something along these lines: http://fsae.mae.cornell.edu/ Those things are unbelievable to drive. But really, the idea of a bike engined Seven also really appeals to me. It's just that the car I fell in love with on the pages of a magazine lo those many years ago was a crossflow-powered Caterham in polished aluminum. I'd like to build a bike-engined car someday. Maybe I'll convert the Seven or maybe I'll tackle a from-scratch build of a lightweight mid-engined roadster.

Nice! Did you get to play the Synthaxe Drumitar? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/hurray.gifxflow72007-01-02 12:04:00

That Coltrane/Monk at Carnegie performance is fabulous. I just got it recently after a friend told me about it. The other one I got not long ago that is really good is the Jazz at Massey Hall concert with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell, and Max Roach. Talk about a line-up... Kind of Blue is also a favorite of mine. Truly a must-have album.

Not sure about a fist full of cash, but the rest of that is a pretty eerie description of me. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/eek6.gifhttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif I'm 32 now; got bitten by the Seven bug at 14 or so. Davexflow72007-01-01 09:09:53

I remember coming across that car's website a couple of years ago. Cool project. Classifying it as a production car for the record seems a bit of stretch, though.

If you hit the Reply or New Topic buttons, there are two little icons with trees in them in the message composition toolbar. The one on the left allows you to insert (via a link) a picture that currently lives somewhere else on the web. When you hit the button it will prompt you for the address. The one on the right (with the up arrow) allows you to upload a picture from your local computer to the shared space on the USA7s server and link it.

Point taken. I suppose all of us would list our car's engine note. Mmmmm...DCOE's roaring at full chat on a cool, dry, fall evening. Superb. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/hurray.gif

I saw VH back in '95 or '96 while in college. Great show. Kind of a shame that they seemed to kind of implode finally. Although I suppose purists would say the end of VH was died when DLR left the first time. I like both Armstrong and Fitzgerald. It's very hard not to smile and feel good listening to either of them. Woot! He is indeed amazing. He played something similar, maybe Silent Night, when I saw them and it was fabulous. He guested with the Elektric Band when I saw them the second time and was superb also. One of my friends is fond of saying, "There are two kinds of bassists in this world; Victor Wooten, and guys who aren't as good as Victor Wooten." http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gifxflow72006-12-31 14:05:10

Seems like every internet forum needs a thread about musical tastes, artists, albums, concerts, etc. So what are your favorites? I'm mostly into progressive rock and jazz. Some current fav. artists (in no particular order) are: Prog: Porcupine Tree Echolyn Jethro Tull Enchant IQ (a recent thing with the acquisition of the Dark Matter album) Mike Keneally / Beer for Dolphins Genesis Kevin Gilbert Steely Dan Jazz: Chick Corea Dizzy Gillespie Arturo Sandoval John Coltrane Dave Brubeck Concerts in the last couple of years: 2 x Chick Corea Elektric Band (mind-bogglingly good) Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Bela Fleck / Stanley Clarke / Jean-Luc Ponty (also mind-bogglingly good) Preservation Hall Jazz Band Porcupine Tree Fairport Convention Maynard Ferguson Newport Jazz Festival (missed Arturo though, dammit) Davexflow72006-12-31 10:57:00

Someone forwarded me this clip the other day; it kind of blew my mind. From what I remember it looked like he lit the engines off while standing in the open airplane hatch waiting to fall out the side. I didn't spend much time looking around the site, but I'd be interested to see what is test/development program was like. Presumably his first test wasn't to fall out of an airplane with the wings all folded. Or maybe it was, given that he does pack a 'chute. Still, though, I'd have thought he'd go through some trials to make sure the wings didn't foul the chute deployment or something.

I wonder if a set of forged pistons and steel crank have ever been part of a dowry before. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/thumbsup.gif
