  1. Just to get you through the RALLY. Do the rules allow you to use an app on a smartphone for GPS speed/odometer readings. Is there a fuse in your speedometer that has blown? Has your Hall sensor displaced or wires come loose?
  2. I did have at one time. It would bounce, go to zero, not rev with the engine. I had a bad ground wire. Fixed that and tach has been good since. Birkin S3 Zetec dual Webers.
  3. Everyone has given good suggestions. Webers tend to run a bit of a pooling in the horns just before the choke. After a good run about this will collect even more raw fuel and it will set there until it evaporates into the air through the filters. Also, if your float level/fuel level is a tad high in the bowls, after the run about the carbs will boil over from the float chamber into the air horns (percolate?) Some of the older (maybe newer also) air horns do not seal well and they tend to leak as they enter the venturi. Some have used a bit of rubber gasket or wicking material at the air horn insertion mating surface. Then there is the choke plate at the back of the carbs that sometimes leak. Good luck in finding a resolution. I may just be rambling too!!
  4. Twerd68, Bigger folks than 6' 2" drive Lotus Europa's and smaller sevens like the Birkin. Why is it that you think you would not fit in the Stalker? The Birkin is 4" narrower in the seating area side to side and is a foot short than a Stalker. Just wondering? MB7, Nice looking Stalker to enjoy!!
  5. Does the mounting bracket need re-clocked? Or is that even possible?
  6. My car has a rear wing protector like a thin bed liner. It has been very durable and shows no chipping. It can be seen here - http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=21850 They make it in different colors now and they may be able to match your paint if you have the paint number code. 7. http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=24114 My Stalker dash. All are same size and centered in dash. Left to right; Tach, oil, temp, volts, fuel then Speedometer for passengers pleasure. Hidden key location. I have a pod behind the steering wheel with horn, low/high beam and turn switches. Sorry for the non-readeable photo. Dale BirkinS3 StalkerV6 Lotus Europa S2
  8. Shane, Dick Brink has this -- bolt together trailer forsale --. Tire rack already there. A bit expensive though. I now use a single axle 14'x76" utility trailer with a folding rear ramp (so it doesn't stick way up in the air. With the Stalker on it it looks like the previous posted picture of the featherlite (albeit steel). The two Corvette guys who autocross here have featherlites. I don't know about the bolt together thing though - guess it works. http://www.texasmotorworks7.com/2002-Trailex-Alloy-Trailer-CT-7031SB-Arlington-Texas-76012/4811956
  9. Shane, Here's my take on trailers. I owned a Tundra, and it replaced an old 454 Suburban. My Europa was in the front of a 22 foot enclosed trailer and as I turned a corner and accelerated with the Tundra, the Europa jumped over the wooden blocks and ran to the back of the trailer hitting the back trailer door, then I braked and it came back to the front of the trailer hitting it and parked itself back where it started. SO YOU DON'T have to worry about the Tundra not having the power. The Europa suffered a broken nose!! I delivered Birkins for a while for Dick Brink. I used an open one wheel 6x12 open trailer, with a wooden frame for putting a tarp over in bad weather. This was used for three trips to California, one to Kentucky, one to Tennessee, one to Connecticutt, two trips to Colorado and many trips to Stalker Ambush, Cresson Texas and midwest gatherings, plus home chore use. You, in my opinion do not need more than a 14 foot double axle low profile trailer. This would give you enough room for your Stalker and extra tires/wheels (rack mounted on side or front and your tools/spare parts. Go with the same 14 foot but high profile it you want standing room. Go with a 16 foot or 18 foot either low/high profile and you can add in a hanging cot/cots for resting. Electrify it with a generator and you will have a small mobile home - plus garage. If you want to go hog-out, then get an 18 foot with the lift package and you can either haul two cars or have a full garage with lift capability and storage. Or, one of those play-type mobile trailers with the garage in back. I had no problem with the rearview mirrors and the 22 foot high profile enclosed trailer. If you remember back when I came to Arkansas to see you, I had the 454 Suburban - 22 foot enclosed trailer with a Birkin and Stalker both in it (on the floor), so I had excess room even with two cars loaded. Doesn't Haulmark have a factory in Arkansas or Southern Missouri? They will custom make what you want - for a price!! So will Pace or any other trailer maker. Dale
  10. You folks are killing me! Colin ran little 768?? engines and they won races. He had cars almost banned from racing - not due to HP but to handling and winning. Jack B just bought another Stalker with the turbo I4 from the Soltice/Sky cars -- I think it is at 360HP and good torque coming at around 2500 rpm. His other Stalker which he and his son set FTD in SCCA autocrossing had a 2.8 v6. So if you're winning why the excess of a v8. Stalker V6 supercharged is less Hp. Dick B did supercharged Ford Duretec 2.0 or 2.3 at around 350 Hp. Gale (hotttcar) has an LS7 V8. Bill runs a Triumph Spitfire in his Locost. Chris runs a side-way-mounted motorcycle engine and chain drive to the irs. A fellow used a Datsun 280z running gear in his Locost build (it is a really BIG 7. but it's his and it runs well). Some use Toyota engines Leich and Westfield are the two I know off hand. There was the Rotus using Mazda rotory. So, guys, do what you want and belive in. The seven type car is a winner at any gas station, parking lot, blatting about, so it doesn't make any difference the engine -- does it?? It is all about owning a unique little car with a winning heritage. I have a Birkin with Ford Zetec, a StalkerV6 with 3.4 v6, and a Lotus Europa with the Renault 80hp i4. I don't need a V8, but wouldn't kick it away if it showed up in the garage. And, for a more weird concept, I wouln't mind building a seven type with a nice 2 or 3 cyl diesel and the Protean folks electric wheel motors making it 4 wheel drive. There is a Stalker that is all electric I think it is number 7 on the stalker picture gallery. Ford is dropping weight from their pickups - why - for more economy and also using more and more turbo i4 and v6. Must be something about that add lightness thing Colin had going on. Why all the aluminium and carbon fiber intensive cars? lightness probably. Well, there you go from a fellow that just likes driving.. been driving Lotus cars since 1968. Back to you alls lively discussion. Dale
  11. 88lbs for the Nissan engine. Wow!! Colin Chapman used an 88lb engine in the Europa sourced from the Renault 16. That was 88lbs without guts though I think -- just the block and head. I think it produced 80 HP.
  12. Took me back in time with that frame configuration. Center tunnel old school Lotus Europa and Elan??
  13. There's a Westfield in Oklahoma with a Toyota engine. Send PM and I can get you the location if you want it. Dale
  14. My lady friend owns a Birkin. She had no clue as to what a Lotus was until we met. I showed her pictures, and I had a Lotus Europa. I found a Birkin close to us and we looked at it. When we drove up the street to the house and she saw the Birkin in the garage, well -- she had it bought before we got out of the car. I also bought a Stalker V6 3.4v6. # 4 chassis (very early design). It was the builders first build and he built another one which he also sold. He enjoyed the build. I bought because I wanted to drive it right now. Since then I have reworked some things to make it mine. I have now signed it over to my sons who autocross it. I also, sent another fellow to a friend and he bought a Stalker. If you have an owner close, then catch a ride, drive, have a good visit. There is a Stalker on this sight for sale, the one on ebay now or recently, the one I think in Texas that Shane posted a picture of, and I believe Bob in Florida still has his super stalker for sale, since he built an M-spec. If you want to build, I believe Jumpin Jim up in Iowa at SugarGroveCars, still has two classic kits. He and his group built 100, 101, 102, 104 pictured on the Stalker Gallery sight. They also finished the stalker Ecotech turbo 4 cyl that Jack Banker just bought. I believe a school had bought that kit for a school project but never finished it. I delivered 103 from Houston to Iowa then Jim sold it from his shop. As far as air conditioning in a Stalker YES, Gale has AC in his Stalker pictured on the stalker gallery. Welcome to the fun!!
  15. Wow!! Why do you want to change so much, when the car out-of-the-box is good!! Drive it, learn it, then make changes. We do not do track days or road circuits, but we usually get FTD at our autocrosses, beating Corvette Z06's on slicks. We are running a semi-slick Hankook tire C71 compound. I changed to Magnaflow mufflers and it made the car perform better and is fairly quiet - on video of road driving at our get togethers the camera picks up us talking. The panhard version rearend is proven. But, I am not the one to give advice. There are many racer type folks on the Stalkerv6 forum, that need to answer your questions. Shane has a wickedly tricked Stalker. (shout out Shane). The 3.4 engine in mine has an Electromotive electronic ignition versus the distributor like yours. I have videos of the muffer sound if you would like to PM me. Dale, Scott, Judson Stalker # 4 Home of straight roads Kansas
  16. Hello, Have you been to Hockenheim too? I camped at the Carousel of Nuremburgring back in 1968-69. Watched the Mercedes 4 rotor run around - it was fun because it just whistled as it went by versus the sounds of the Ferrari/Porsche other cars. They discontinued that car due to overheating issues. Have a couple trophies from their GymKhanas (autocrosses). Rally races are also fun over there because you get right next to the roads to watch. I was out of Bitburg in 1967 - 68 and Ramstein 1969 - 70. The dealer I bought my Europa from drove a seven. Great roads for driving!!
  17. There is a Stalker in Alfretta, GA. (has the supercharged v6) It would be number 6 on the Stalker gallery site that xcarguy listed. I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind showing it. PM if you would like contact information.
  18. I have a California cover for mine, but when I go on trips I use a canvas picnic table cover from Lowes. I think it was 25 dollars. Heavy canvas for outdoor use. It fits the Stalker, Birkin and it has been on a couple of Locost for trial fits. Dale
  19. Yes, I know a lady named Sherron who owns a Birkin. She also drives my StalkerV6 on occassion. This is a picture when we stopped along out trip to Arkansas for the sevens gathering a couple years ago. http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=19038 Dale StalkerV6 Lotus Europa S2 Birkin (Sherron's)
  20. I delivered Birkin's on a single axle 12x6 trailer. It covered Texas to California three times, Texas to Connecticut once, Kentucky once, Georgia 4 times and Colorado twice. I had a wood frame so I could cover the cars with a tarp if weather was naughty. Before I had a 22 foot enclosed that I hauled both a Birkin and Stalker (flat on the floor). Now I have a 14x7 single axle that I bought new for 1500.00. Dale
  21. ChuckeD Are you coming to the Oklahoma get together?
  22. Sevnn Are you going to be able to make the Oklahoma get together in June 6,7,8,9 Tenkiller Lake area South of Muskogee? Dale Wichita, Kansas BirkinS3 StalkerV6 EuropaS2
  23. On June 14th through 17th, there will be a Sevens get together in Colorado Springs, Colo. There will be a Pikes Peak drive, and some track time. Here's the info from Tom Carlin. Hi to All, Dates have been selected for a Colorado Seven Festival, they are July 14th through 17th. The following is an outline of the event. Day 1, July 14th, We will depart From Colorado Springs and drive to the top of Pikes Peak (http://pikespeak.us.com/Essentials/hours-and-fees.html ), the road that the Pikes Peak Hill Climb is held on each year. This is a 19 mile drive each way ending at an elevation of over 14,000 feet and is now paved the entire way. Next would be lunch at Wines of Colorado (http://www.winesofcolorado.com/ ). They have a nice patio along side a creek. After lunch we will head to our overnight accommodations the historic Victor Hotel (http://www.victorhotelcolorado.com/ ). This is off the beaten path but only 6 miles to the historic gold rush town of Cripple Creek (http://www.visitcripplecreek.com/ ) where we will go for dinner. in Cripple Creek they have saved many of the old buildings from after the fire in 1896. There is low stakes gambling in Cripple Creek so anyone wishing to try their luck at the slot machines or blackjack tables could, if not a walk around town and back to the hotel at your leisure. There are many things to do in this area including narrow gage train rides, gold mine tours, hiking, historic tours, and of course scenic drives. Day 2, July 15th, We will return to the Colorado Springs area via a slightly different route with a drive through Garden of the Gods http://www.gardenofgods.com/home/index.cfm?flash=1 ) Day 3 and 4, July 16th and 17th, Track days at Pikes Peak International Raceway (http://www.ppir.com/ ) , this track is about 15 miles south of Colorado Springs . They have infield RV hook ups for those who would like to stay at the track and parking for tow vehicles during the tour. We will be using the Crowne Plaza in Colorado Springs (http://www.cpcoloradosprings.com/ ) as our host hotel. They work with car clubs on a regular basis and have nice facilities. The track rates will be $150 per driver per day. This is an event for all 7 type cars so please put this out to any other part of the 7 community at large. There is a lot to do in Colorado and this could be used as a start to or the end of a longer vacation including other family members. There are also a number of things for non driving family members to do during the track days if they wish. More information will follow. Thanks for your response, Tom Carlin Rocky Mountain Motor Works Eagle, Colorado 970-376-5188
  24. Getting things lined up for June. Wendell and Bev are working on it. https://vimeo.com/user1993562/videos
  25. Mike, The ECU is programmed to run the fuel pump for a few seconds, shut it off, and restart the pump full time when the engine is running. This is the normal way, even on your Mercedes (if you still have it). If your electrician wired the pump into the fuse block and fuel pump directly, thus by-passing the ECU, then the pump will run all the time. Glad he found the broken wire and bad fuse block. Chasing electrical stuff is a fun game. Dale Are you going to come over to Oklahoma for the get together weekend?
