  1. Seems appropriate for a Porsche Club. I am still trying to work out if Bill's irony was deliberate?
  2. We had a thread on this topic not long ago with options for purchasing linked. Source for Big Head Cable Tyrap fasterners in US or equivalent??? (usa7s.net)
  3. In fairness we had been deferring updates on the existing vBulletin for years given it is a buggy mess in the latest iteration but we had not reached the level of pain to find a new forum software to replace vBulletin. So this was always going to be a catch up. Just be thankful that this is not going like the L7C forum/website rebuild - that was a disaster.
  4. I have crawled all over and inside one but not had the opportunity to drive one. They are quite big. Like the styling. Heavy little thing - think 6000 pounds. Not sure that the inline turbo 4 option will be enough to move that hunk. The 6 cyl turbo option is probably the only one. Inside has a lot of cheap looking plastic. Usual explanation given is that it is durable but it looks cheap and nasty. I have chatted with an auto journalist friend who did drive it, that it was a squeak fest inside when driving. I have reservations over the build quality. I have owned several old Range Rovers in the past (actually still do own one now that I think about it) and they are not the most reliable of things.... The biggest killer is price. Spec it up to the level of my current BMW X5 and it is $20k MORE than the equivalent BMW.
  5. My daily driver is a 2019 BMW X5 50i with the 4.4L twin turbo v8. This is my third one - i had a 2013 BMW X5 30i then (turbo straight 6) the 2016 BMW X5 40i (twin turbo v8). A number of people who have been to the annual Sevens event have seen it and its predecessors. I find it leaves me cold. Its not particularly distinctive in styling. Its a nice drive, handles well, excessively fun amounts of power, goes well but does not endear itself to me. Its monumentally complicated - only car where I have ever read the owners manual to understand how to use all the features and even then it took 2 hours to read things and try to set the car up. Its like a complex kitchen appliance - useful but no soul. I put its predecessor 2016 BMW X5 twin turbo v8 on track once in conjunction with a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and an AMG Mercedes SUV. Saw 140mph down the straight and was thankful for the espresso brown leather seats at the end of the straight as poo was flinging everywhere when I tried to stop. Still overtook a Porsche Cayman before I decided I was pushing the brakes a little too much. The lane keeper feature would take control of the steering as you were aiming at an apex. As I could not work out how to turn it off I tricked it by using the indicators when turning into the corner and then again when tracking out! My biggest problem with the car is that it just does not feel particularly well made. Its not a cheap feel as the materials do feel nice. It gives the appearance of quality but I don't expect it to last more than 10 years. All the technology will break over time and at some point it will be scrapped. I had a colleague with a 12 year old BMW 7 series and he scrapped it in 2019 as it was too expensive to fix despite being in immaculate condition otherwise. Thats what will happen to mine 8 years from now, 7 years after I hand it back at lease end. There will be no 2022 BMW X5 for me. The new BMW grille styling is horrible, as if I dipped my bare butt cheeks in ink and backed up onto the car to make an imprint. No idea what next? - the new Jeep Grand Cherokee looks good. The Kia Telluride looks nice. Don't need anything as big as a Tahoe or Suburban as I have a work one in NJ I can borrow when I need it. I was driving the new Ford F150 last year and liked it but it was too large for my daily travel and I prefer a wagon style. In my extensive UK visits I usually get the Mercedes S class with a company driver but they are like a refrigerator to me - no soul again. US roads are too poor quality to be permit a regular 2wd sedan/wagon. I will never get a VW/Audi product again after some bad experiences. Genuinely underwhelmed with the choices available.

  7. I normally post it around 7 to 8am Sunday. My little searchbot runs Saturday night. It will be posted just before the switch and will be live for when the site comes back up. Sorry I was not set up to run 24 hours earlier.
  8. Nice one Ron! I love the 144 wagon. I learned to drive on one of those (along with a VW beetle - shame I know). Many happy teen memories of getting my license then loading friends up and heading to the beach in it.
  9. This page on the Caterham US website shows all the dealers and their contact information. Retailers | Caterham Cars
  10. The Caterham in the Hillbank video just has the standard "track day" roll bar with the cross bracing. You are comparing to a Stalker that has a form of roll cage - side bars, overhead bars, etc. So an apples vs oranges comparison. But you are right - these cars are exposed by nature. The driver is the air bag and the crumple zone. Thats the risk we take. The chassis are immensely strong for their weight but the exposure is a key part of the attraction of these cars. The tethers you refer to are used on track days in NJ by law. The sevens event at NJMP makes it mandatory to use arm restraints. Caterham sell their own branded version. Gets complicated belting yourself in these days - I have 10 points of attachment to the car - 6pt belt, 2 pt arm restraints, 2 pt Hybrid neck harness
  11. Brooklands really look good on the classic style of seven like yours. Work quite well on the open road too.
  12. Welcome to the club forum and congratulations on acquiring your new to you Caterham! There are quite a good group of sevens based around the Seattle and outskirts area although the weather out there likely has kept everyone indoors for the season. I met quite a lot of them at a Christmas party in Dec 2019 before the virus and social distancing became a reality. JohnCh has the best knowledge of who is around that area and you could PM him if he does not chime in. He may be distracted given he is key to the forum website conversion underway currently. But I know he likes doing drives with other sevens. Cheers mike
  13. Hi Paul - Standard issue problem with Tillets and Caterham seats. Helmet shape unlikely to fix but the usual trick people try is get set the front of the seat up higher using washers or some other type of spacer and longer front bolts. This tilts the whole seat back to improve neck angle.
  14. First thing I will say is not all helmets fit all heads. Depending on shape a different brand may fit you better. For example I prefer Stilo and Arai helmets. Much more comfortable for me than a Bell. However, Tom above prefers the Bell as they just fit him. So try different brands. If you are using the aeroscreen then you want a helmet - mandatory on track and essential on road. Debris gets kicked up, rocks, bits of rubber, left over tools, you name it. If using windscreen then I would not bother. Get the metal posts installed for Hans or Simpson or some other brandhead/neck restraints - cheaper and easier to do it up front now in case you change down the track. Aero devices? I tried the add on "roof" spolier and add on duck bill spoiler once on a Bell helmet and found it buffetted my head around. Hated it. I run helmets without aero and am comfortable. Not much help here. If in doubt dont. Dripping vents? Never had that one in my driving life and I have done many shockingly wet days in many Caterhams over the years in Bell, Stilo and Arai helmets. In the photos below the only thing that was dry was my hair!
  15. And he did it with dodgy internet, permanent rain, no power and two lovable drooling dogs that shed white fur all over you. :hurray:

  20. No apology needed. I share to save someone the pain of reinventing the wheel plus I like the idea of you also going bonkers like me! :jester:
  21. Steve - did you mean the fill plug on the side?
  22. That’s it. This forum also had it listed in the eBay thread for quite a few weeks. I don’t recall it having a separate ad on here but it may have.
  23. Have an embed from me I think the mic will be in front of the exhaust, which is likely rear exit just based on me hearing it (lack of wind noise is the giveaway). The mic is unable to cope with the input - that may sound good to you but the sound is breaking up. That tells me it is relying on the action camera to power the mic - no separate power source. A good powered mic will improve the quality of sound from what you hear.
  24. Hi Choliday11 - Congratulations on your first post! What dream spec 7 are you looking for? Sometimes saying it out loud has flushed cars out of hiding. I know of a few where owners are agonizing about selling.
