  4. Hi Graham - that was a coincidence as I had no idea of your identity. I guess you stopped doing the US distribution at some point and Leitch went direct distribution? How many Leitch Super Sevens are stateside from your estimate? They have a great reputation in NZ and Oz and would deserve to do well here. cheers mike
  5. I have driven all spec Caterhams at one time or another. The 1.6L Sigma is 270 and 310 models. 2L Duratec kicks in at 360, 420, and 620 models. The CSR is still out there at 200 and 260 models with 2.3L Duratec. The difference between the 270 and 310 is character. The Sigma is a naturally revvy engine compared with the Duratec. Sounds better too - just as good as the old crossflow. I think the 310 is revvier and more lively than the 270. Its not much difference in hp - 15hp or something close. Difference in torque is a non event - you do not feel it. But the 310 has a higher rev limit and feels better for all of that. The 5 speed Miata gearbox has not got the greatest of ratios with really only 4 gears in use so having the ability to use revs improves the driving experience. It will require you to change your driving style - no big v8 to lug you out of tight corners. You will need to learn to get the weight on the nose early (or trail brake) to pivot the car around crisply. Fail to do that will give you understeer. Simultaneously you will be making sure you are in the right gear with about 3500+ rpm on the clock to punch it out of the corner. It will make you work as a driver but once you get it right it is so satisfying. If you do outgrow the Sigma hp then you have upgrade paths with Premier Power in the UK who produce some good upgrade kits that are well regarded with the L7C guys. To give you an idea of what a 310R is capable of then here is one at Donington. I only ever use 1st to 4th gears - never use 5th until over 110mph because it is an overdrive. Also consider if you can stretch for 13" wheels - that transforms the driving experience by accentuating how quickly the engine spools up plus improves handling and ride comfort. Its hard to describe until you experience it on a back to back test. You will have to consider ride height when you set up the suspension.
  6. One of my favorite colors on a seven - the burgundy red really pops against the polished aluminium (using the Kiwi spelling/pronunciation). Great detailing with those doors and painted headlight bowls. I guess it was your DMV that made you insulate your exhaust that way? Does someone still sell Leitch Super Seven kits in the USA? Used to be Earley Motorsports but the website is no longer active.
  7. 2L Zetec virtually stock. Standard Caterham exhaust. Standard under bonnet plenum intake. No throttle bodies A few things modify the sound an engine produces: - microphone position - internal muffler baffling - if metal it corrodes over time, if that fiber fill then it burns up over time - the headers' shape - engine build spec - bonnet cut through or no hole for the intake. Intact bonnet mufflers the intake sound but the biggest thing is distinguishing between intake and exhaust noises if the engine has the standard intake or throttle bodies. Throttle bodies add so much depth to the satisfying noise an engine produces. But when recording, throttle bodies also tend to drown out the exhaust noise - even with two mics being used. A different Zetec - Kitcat's. 2L Zetec with a high spec. Same mic set up as my old Maroon zetec A couple of variations: 1) Caterham 360R - 1.6L Sigma engine. No throttle bodies. Standard plenum intake. Two muffler UK set up for noise - one side and one under rear end used for noise. 2) Caterham 420R - 2L Duratec. Throttle bodies. No bonnet cutout. Two muffler UK set up for noise - one side and one under rear end used for noise.

    Gear Oil

The cut down allen key was how I did it on my last 2 T-9 cars and I know of others doing the same. Then it is a complete pain but you can do it with plastic tubing and a big syringe to suck out the old then inject the new to refill with fresh. This is similar to what I used - probably cheaper ones with some searching. https://www.amazon.com/Lumax-LX-1387-Extractor-Dispenser-Capacity/dp/B0059HK5D6/ref=sr_1_11?_encoding=UTF8&c=ts&dchild=1&keywords=Garage+%26+Shop+Fluid+Evacuators&qid=1609925629&s=automotive&sr=1-11&ts_id=15707821 For oil level, the original production cars were filled until the oil was just at the level of the drain hole - just before starting to leak out. You should be able to do the same by testing with a small finger (or like me and waiting until it overflows ) as you will only suck about 80-85% of the oil out in this approach and will not need to refill the full recommended volume. The other possible option is be lazy. The T-9 was designed by Ford to be sealed for life of car in original production and not touched. In our cars the clutch usually goes much earlier than life of car and so when you pull the engine to change the clutch you would change the transmission oil then.

  10. Some dealers do participate on this forum but those postings are not always a complete picture of what a dealer really brings to the customer. USA7s is a club at its heart and so there is no tie in or preferred relationship for a specific manufacturer brand or individual dealer. The forum is intended to be neutral ground and an informed place for buyers so you can make the best choice. I would encourage you to do your research and make the informed choice that works best for you. Things that you should consider in selecting a dealer: - after sales/after build support - if you think you will need it then maybe local presence is better. If not then this gives you more dealer options. There is no requirement that you purchase from your closest dealer. You can choose a Caterham dealer anywhere in the US you want despite what some might tell you. - knowledge - do you want out of the box standard or maybe something a little special or custom? Some dealers are better set up for the custom type orders/builds - currency - different dealers have different ways of dealing with FX variability on the order. Higher price/less FX risk or lower price but higher risk of FX variations in end cost - the end result can be very different under the different methods - spec - In addition to customer orders, dealers will also have an order pipeline of kits that they spec'ed based on what they think they can sell. If you dont want a very specific order but can be flexible on color or interior style then maybe see what different dealers have on order but not assigned to a customer to find something you like quicker than starting a fresh order. Email them all and see what they have unsold on their upcoming order books. - feedback - Have a read of various posts of new cars being featured on here in the member rides section or build threads. Who did they use? Maybe PM a few to ask them about their experience. - parts - some dealers have a sizable inventory of parts and some do not. Personally, I tend to order direct from the UK so this is a non-event for me. But others prefer to have someone in-country to purchase parts from so it could be a factor for you. Thats nice of you. Most of my friends would use words other than "esoteric." I raced Holdens in Australia in the late 80s/early 90s. Cars went into storage and I never sold them. They are still really fun to drive and quite fast.
  11. Exactly as it should be - USA7s should be a relaxing place to visit online. Rather embarrassingly, I recognize one of the willy wavers on that Corvette forum thread. Completely unproductive discussion. Anyway, we all know a Se7en is quicker around corners than a Corvette! Reflects our mental state.
  12. I am in NY/NJ and still have the Holdens. Two are slowly being recommissioned. One just decorates the garage while I work out what I want to do with it. The Chevy SS was a superb car. Would have bought one before they finished production but I felt I had enough cars....need to add the missing ones to that list..
  13. Welcome Yoram and Happy New Year! First thing is - its not you! I find with Google Chrome or even Safari (Mac), I have to sit and let the screen sort itself out. You get two popups - cookies to be accepted and then a subscribe popup. Then its still moving around. Then if you move the cursor/mouse and find the hot fields it then opens up new things and you have to move the cursor away to see the main screen. Like Bill noted above, Micrsoft Edge browser seems to be better. One idea - does heading straight to this screen bypass the worst of it? https://www.caterhamcars.com/us/models/the-iconic-range Also, if you have questions you can always ask here - the owners can set you straight on what you are trying to find out.
  14. Thats exactly the type of backroad drive I like! Great car and great video. Lots of members here are in Cinncinnati.
  15. This is a wonderful offer - thank you! We will not be able to save everything but there will be enough to make it worthwhile. PM on its way
  16. JohnCH, Slngsht and I have been working through a project to upgrade the USA7s forum from its current vBulletin platform to a new Invision platform. Many of us users and the site admins have been unhappy with vBulletin. We looked at several options before settling on Invision. To make the transition as easy as possible we will be retaining the existing forum structure although the look and feel will be quite different - I think it is improved. The advantages to you as users will be significant: Better screen layout to access content you want quicker Individual user galleries more readily accessible Auto-resizing of images uploaded Automatically presenting embedded image links and video links as images and video screens Integration with social media with FaceBook and Instagram feeds The use of articles to surface more in-depth content rather than burying it deep within the forum directories Greater ability to react to content and interact with other users posting on the forum Better ability to tag posts and data for future reference Ability to optimize how you can search for technical information contained within the forum Invision forum presents properly on a phone with a regular browser. No need for Tapatalk app any more. Invision also has an app available for you but our testing showed using the phone browser was better - you can choose. Additionally, JohnCh is working with the creators/moderators of Yahoo Birkin Owners Group to save as much of the valuable technical information and incorporate it within the forum so that it is available to all. Much of the information is relevant and useful to all seven owners, not just Birkin owners. The forum will be good foundation for a range of future enhancements for the broader Se7ens community to better connect owners with parts sources or prospective owners with manufacturers and their representatives or classified ads of used Se7ens. The timetable is tentatively planned for late January/February. There will be plenty of notice prior to changeover so that you are aware of the short planned downtime. There will also be a quick starter guide available on using the new forum. A lot of thought has gone into this and we think you will appreciate the significant improvements coming. At the end of the day the forum is a tool to connect you with the information, technical resources, events, and people that can allow you to enjoy your Se7ens more. A new forum will make that a better experience for you.
  17. I find that to be an intriguing selling point in a car especially when considered with your later comment... In a car that wants to kill you over 100mph, you are contemplating another 100-150whp? You sir have a big brassy set hanging there to even contemplate adding more hp. I think I want to meet you in person and have a few beers - I like your style!
  18. Merry Christmas to everyone! May Santa have brought all the upgrades you were wanting! :driving:
