  2. I think the type of stand you are looking for is this - photo at Caterham factory in Dartford Those stands were a custom order for Caterham. Most car builders seem to build their own. I think you will have to find someone that can build to a design of your choosing. Its not a difficult job but it has to be dimensions that work for your build. What about here? https://www.hawthornetables.com/worktables If you design it right, then afterwards you can add a table top to make it a workbench or something else useful.
  3. If Caterham supplied the ECU then it is locked. Some owners sourced unlocked units independently of Caterham. No way to tell until you hook it up and try to chat with it. I suspect it is locked - I found it listed on Caterham Japan parts site: https://www.caterhamparts.jp/search/?category=120&t=20190405114020 SBD in the UK sells the bits to talk to the ECU - the proprietary cable/laptop adapter cable plus you can download Easimap software off their website. But then after spending that money you could discover it is locked. SBD will not give out the password to unlock the ECU but you may find someone on here who knows it. Someone on the forum may have the cable to sell/lend for you to test without resorting to SBD. SBD will do tuning of Caterham ECUs remotely. So you buy the kit to talk to it, take it to a local dyno place, have the dyno shop guys run the dyno and SBD will then run the software to tune it from the UK. They will want a wideband lamda for that exercise. Has been done by quite a few Caterham owners on here with good results. I think US-based Caterham dealers take the same approach or just sell you a new locked ECU off the shelf - checking with them will confirm. The alternative is scrap the existing ECU and go for a new brand ECU of your choosing.

  5. I have been known to buy a Caterham on auction while completely wasted with help from a few buddies on this forum. However, that is genuinely jaw dropping as a fat finger. No way that auction is going to settle... :ack: Edited to add: Good to see they fixed the typo.
  6. Caterham 7 on Bringatrailer https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-caterham-super-seven/
  7. Its famous for its mystery lights although when I was there it was pretty underwhelming. Fantastic night sky for star gazing.
  8. Great progress. What mile range are you average between fills?
  9. Sorry Rick. It was a twin of yours with PA plates. I just figured it had to be you - there are not a lot of us out there!
  10. Solved one mystery for me - this was the Caterham featured in the Hagerty magazine write up last year (or was it earlier this year?). Congratulations on the imminent sale.

  12. Grabbing another clutch cable at Kampena would be a good idea.

To be honest I was surprised to see Paul up in the 220-230F range in a warm tune engine. Paul was also running quite hard - fastest I have seen him lap. There were no coolant temp issues. Oil temps can be influenced by a range of items: - overfilling a wet sump engine to avoid surge on a track - where you measure the temps - choice of oil weight
  14. That is a nice color combination. Did the owner upgrade to a 620R nosecone or is that the standard version for a 420S these days?

First time I have been called a boffin. Normally beefcake... Paul - try these guys. Their stuff is quality. Much Mocal from BAT in many of my cars. http://www.mocal.co.uk/products.html The USA distributor is here - phone call is best B.A.T. inc. - Sarasota, FL, USA | Tel: (941) 355-0005
  16. What worked for me - 3M the front side of the carbon rear wings. I never put the carbon look protectors on. Its only now after 10,000miles that the 3M film is starting to look a little tatty. It protected the carbon rear wings well - they are in great shape under the 3M. I also 3M filmed the front carbon wings, more to stop water spots than anything else and give it a glossier look. They look pristine. However, I should have done the nosecone and along the sides with the 3M film. Lots of stone chips from a particular forum member at sevens events at NJMP. Regret not having done that now. One big catch - you will have fiberglass rear wings. You will collect 1 or 3 so star cracks in the fiberglass from rocks and pebbles hitting over the years. Not sure the 3M film will stop that type of impact damage. Star cracks don't happen on carbon fiber given the nature of the material. If it was me then I would wrap the front half of the rear fiberglass wings (without the carbon look nose protectors on). Then I would 3M the rear fender protectors separately and affix them separately. I would also 3M the front wings. You will get lots of different views on this one - people have varying experiences based on their driving style and location.
  17. Probably better quality than the NJ Turnpike I drive! Loving your journey Sander! Brilliant! :seeya:
  18. Not a problem - I thought engine spec long and hard and went with an engine builder who knows what they are doing with these engines and has a track record I can verify independently. Nothing wrong with a cast crank but you have to keep the revs down in the 2.3/2.5 environment. I have similar power to you in my 2.3L with the cast crank and I usually change at 6500 for a 7000rpm self imposed limit. Tom has a billet crank and he can go high above 8000rpm. You may have found them already but event posts and pics here - we missed you! http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?12974-Photos-2020-Annual-Sevens-Event-at-NJMP
  19. Hi John Dave's questions are on target since I know he is a superb autocrosser. This is definitely worth exploring - set up, antiroll bars, spring rates, tires, heat, pressures - all essential aspects. Not sure we should hijack Anker's thread but he's a good guy and probably won't mind. However, my first suspicion is that it may not be the car. The clue for me is your recent switch from road racing to autocrossing. When I have switched from road circuit work to autocrossing in one of my Caterhams it takes time to dial me in. Its a different form of driving and you have to be very precise in your steering inputs in time with weight transfer on to the wheel or wheels that need grip. Moving weight around the wheels in a road racing environment is slower than autocrossing - precision is essential in autocrossing for a quick time. My first run (ok...second too.....) usually sees me with bulk understeer caused by me as I do not have the weight sufficiently on the nose. So if you try to flick the car around a cone without the requisite weight on the nose, possibly on part throttle, you will get understeer. I need time to recalibrate myself as a driver. Play your runs back in your mind - is this possibly what you were experiencing? Hope you are not offended by me asking the question. Cheers mike
  20. Final post on this. Last session of the day goes to Mr Iron Butt, Paul (Wemtd). He was out there in the combined session of seven, white and yellow groups. His priority was to stay ahead of the Porsche Carrera GT (worth at least $1.5m). So he did and proceeded to show a modest Duratec Birkin could not just stay ahead of the Porker but gap him. Proves my theory, Porsche drivers are not very good! Well done Paul! To all that came and participated, thank you! Looking forward to a future event.
  21. And the answer is I am not driving. I was going to but I suffered injuries push starting Jim on Saturday session 1. Wrenched both ankles - left one is swollen so I cannot get into my race boots. Broke a another toe. Messed up my hands. Destroyed a knee. May have fractured the foot - going to check that today. Just did not feel comfortable going out on track with my lack of mobility. Jim who is a Doctor inspected me over to determine my problems are mental not physical. Paul who is a vet said I should be treated like a horse and put down. Bruce Beachman had fun with my Caterham even to the point of spinning it on track twice in one lap. He said he popped the belts going into turn 1. Yes of course, right,.... Seb borrowed my Caterham too for one session. Wanted to see my level of power for an engine upgrade he has planned. I got 200 miles on track last Wednesday so not missing out this week.
  22. Weather has been gorgeous. Sitting outside in the sun just enjoying the warmth Left to right: standing is Tom Carlin of Birkin America, Steve, Paige, Vlad, Bruce Beachman of Beachman Racing, Jay.
  23. Group photo taken. Jeff had a tire delaminate but spares are here. I suspect excess toe in.
