Rotus 7 suspension nuts and bolts

Robert: What's news with your car? Rob -
I found these 2x4 kits while looking for a solution for my carport situation .. >www.2x4basics.com .. I like all their kits. If you are thinking of outdoor furnature or a workbench you may want to consider one of these. You can get the kits cheapest at >Northern Tool and Supply. Rob Mitchell

Right now I'm thinking of building a >Mini Garage Kit .. at the far end of the driveway .. 8' wide by 14' deep all 2x4s and plywood. This should satisfy all the "sky is falling" insurance companies http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/yesnod.gif I like all their kits. You can get them cheapest at >Northern Tool and Supply. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/yesnod.gif Rob solder_guy2007-04-07 03:08:55

Well I've tried 6 specialty insurance companies and they all require a locked garage. So I guess I'm going to build a plywood structure within my carport to contain my Rotus. It will probably be an ugly box into which I roll it when not in use. So before it was not apparent that I had something special hiding in the carport .. now it's going to be very obvious that something is there. Any better ideas or suggestions? Rob

Which car did my 1600 cc Toyota engine come from?
solder_guy replied to danowens's topic in General Sevens Discussion
You sure it didn't say 2T? 1600 cc seems too small for a 3T. If it is a 3T .. it is a _3TG_ which came from late '70s .. early '80s racing Corollas and Celicas .. mostly in Australia and Japan. Mine is a modified 2l twin cam 2TG. 2TC and 3TC single cams use the same block as the 2TG and 3TG DOHC engines. You can find alot of parts at the junkyard that will bolt onto the 3TG. Grant Vehicle Security System 2001
solder_guy replied to solder_guy's topic in General Sevens Discussion
See third post for all pics integrated into installation writeup. Green wire hanging below the wheel is from the horn pin. When the horn button is pushed, the green wire is grounded. It is now wired to the horn relay to complete the horn circuit function. Check your insurance contract first before agreeing to this. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/rolleyes5.gif Rob solder_guy2007-04-04 02:15:55

Looks like Killboy nailed that biker with his photos showing him crossing the center line. Daily Interlude wrote: >>But I'll tell you that this is why it's best to hit the dragon early on Sat before the crowd gets there and take the skyway for the late morning to afternoon and then hit the dragon later in the evening. Too many people w/ a high mix of inexperienced dragon'ers. The dragon bites so hard that if you don't really frequent it, it can be disastrous even for the most experienced riders/drivers if you push it very hard... Should we take his advice? Rob

There's a chapter in the book, _Lotus Seven and the Independents_, about miniature cars for kids. BTW: The color scheme is that of "The Prisoner", KAR120C. Rob

I noticed that the lug bolts in front are longer than the ones in the rear of my car which has a Corolla drum rear end. So a trip to the junkyard confirmed that mid '70s Toyotas have longer bolts and use longer lug nuts. So at the junkyard I pounded out 10 longer bolts (2 extra in case I messed up a thread) by wacking on a lug bolt over each one. And today I installed eight on the Rotus rear end. They have about four more threads and give a little better nut bite. And I installed a new ground wire on the steering shaft for the center horn circuit. Rob

That is why I have my Muth Signal Mirrors .. so that I have a little extra flash to my car .. when I hit the brakes, honk the horn, change lanes .. or just buggying down the road .. well when I get it on the road. Rob

Grant Vehicle Security System 2001
solder_guy replied to solder_guy's topic in General Sevens Discussion
This is true! I can with some effort turn the front wheels by hand using only the Grant Security Hub while the car is not moving. (A heavier vehicle would be more difficult.) So as with any security system .. it is only a deterent. And it makes it alot easier to get in & out of the car. Someone said, "Locks are for keeping honest people out." Rob -
Grant Vehicle Security System 2001
solder_guy replied to solder_guy's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I bought a new ground strap (braided wire) to establish a good ground around the steering shaft. NAPA item 770-6119. I wrapped it twice around the steering shaft at the bolt-on suppport union which is situated at my knees when sitting in my Rotus. One terminal fit the bolts perfectly. I then trimmed to length and fit another terminal for the other bolt. This is a perfect ground for the horn circuit for the Grant Vehicle Security System 2001. Rob -
Well Hagerty doesn't like that I have a carport. So they rejected my application. Other suggestions? If you happen to have a Rotus nearby
solder_guy replied to slngsht's topic in General Sevens Discussion
On my car it points up toward the hub. Is this the way it is supposed to be? Pics of other Rotus have it pointing down. On your car Mazda it was horizontal (according to pics). Rob M. solder_guy2007-03-29 12:24:46 -
umm .. I was thinking of adding a hitch to the back of my Rotus so I could pull a trailer! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/wink5.gif Rob M

Man .. your car must be hellaciously loud in the parking garage! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif And do the walls of the office vibrate too? Rob

What about the camera setup that pivots / turns with the front wheels? Rob

McMaster Carr has some of everything. They have hinges with pins that work with the side curtains and wind deflectors. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check with them again about the latches. [none fit the existing hole pattern] Rob M.

I like! I remember seeing a Seven on a flatbed truck heading south on I-75 south of Atlanta 8 months ago. Of course I was heading north. Rob Mitchell

Maybe this one from Protex will work. I'll need to measure today. [doesn't fit my existing holes] Rob http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/20070323_023343_Protex.jpg

Something like this is on my Rotus. I'm still looking for something that will match the existing holes in my hood and body.
