Don't forget that all corner weighting should be done with your weight in the drivers seat. You are wasting your time otherwise. 5 gal buckets of gravel stacked will do the job, if you don't happen to have a bunch of weights sitting around.

Mike, Cage Weight is 70 lbs.including the under bars mounted to the frame and all of the hardware used to secure the cage. We did replace the Caterham FIA bar. With the addition of the cage I was able to remove the 54 lbs. of lead that I had added to make the D Mod minimum in Solo. Total weight with driver and 1/2 tank is still 1,426 lbs. The cage meets or exceeds the SCCA and NASA specs for an open car. I had a Caterham race seat and loved it. However, the fiberglass disintigrated at the right rear mounting area. It was beyond my abilities to repair. A new seat is next on the list. Next time on the lift I will post a photo of the bars mounted to the bottom of the car. Michael D.

Anyone used these bushings from Powerflex? Caterham Seven all models We have revisited the full applications for the Caterham range of Sevens including CSR and added some clever new design features. The bushes that we have designed for this unique vehicle are, in themselves, unique. This car is one of the lightest and finest handling cars on the planet, with many owners spending thousands on spring/damper units trying to achieve perfect handling. However we have always been concerned that whilst the dampers themselves feature 21st century technology the bushes are from a different era. The design of the factory bushes are an inner and outer steel tube with bonded rubber acting as the isolator. The problems that arise from this design are two-fold. The rubber bond breaks allowing the centre of the bush to float fore and aft, however if the bush is in good condition it acts like a spring. Multiply that spring effect by four on each corner and the fact that the spring rate changes as the bush gets older means that the damper does not have total control of the suspension. Of course a spherical joint is the precision answer but not acceptable for the road. This is why Powerflex have developed the frictionless bush range for this car. With the precision of a spherical and the performance of polyurethane. The bushes feature a frictionless PTFE lined bearing and polyurethane outer which doubles as a weather seal and vibration damper. All bearing parts are manufactured in stainless steel/PTFE and like all of our products carry a life time warranty. Details of these new parts and full application lists for all of the different suspension configurations can be found here: http://www.powerflex.co.uk/products/Caterham-4/t1.html

My car is way to rich. I guess that could cause similar results. Especially if it coats the plugs.

Here are some photos of the finished roll cage. Built by Piper Motorsports in Sterling VA. http://www.pipermotorsport.com/ Phone: (703) 996-0353 I must say Mitch is a true craftsman. You can tell when you see this up close “The devil is in the details” as they say. 16 bolts keep in place or allow you to remove it when needed. We also decided to replace my old Caterham muffler. After researching several brands and narrowing it down to a Burns and a Hushpower, I thought I would try the $100 HushPower first. It sounds great and after a 30 minute spirited drive, I could still touch it without a burnt hand. However even with the new muffler, the car still smells of unburned fuel. I hope the dyno work can clear that up. We hope to put it on a chassis dyno in early March to smooth it out a bit. The motor seems to cut out between 3900 and 4200 rpm. It doesn’t seem to be a fuel pick up issue as I have a full tank and it occurs in the same rpm range on straights and corners. Could it be dirty plugs? I pulled the plugs 3&4 are black velvet while I&2 seem to have only a little black velvet. Will try new plugs tomorrow. Anyone tried the gas additives that say they clean injectors?

Issues with 13" wheel clearance on De Dion Caterham
MichaelD replied to supersportsp's topic in Wheels and Tires
Nice looking car. Did you buy it form an owner in Maeyland? You might try gringing down the edge of the DeDion ear. -
The RA1 seem a little better in the rain (While they have tread) and last a little longer while the 888s seem a little sticker. These are my street tires. very seldom do I use them on the track. On track I run 13 x 8/9 Hoosier A6s. For Autocross I use with 13 x 10 Hoosier slicks. If I had to choose one for both the RA1s will last longer and the 888s are a little sticker. $$ or performance.

Two street 13" I have used for many miles and SMILES. Note that the Dia range is 22.7" to 23.1". The weights are almost the same. So that .4 difference is not worth the extra weight od the 15" wheels. However a skid pan from Mid Atlantic Caterham is advisable. Tom, Sounds like a good time. I am at Summit all weekend before but will try to fit it in if possible.

I just ordered Hush Power part #HP-2 12018400 It is a 18" case with 2" in and out. Price $93.00 from Amazon. I am having a removable roll cage is built by Piper Motor Sports in Sterling, Va. Once the cage is on, they will install the new muffler to fit. I will let you know how it looks and sounds when I get the car back. Probably towards the end of January.
-
John, What size HushPower do you use? George Hillard has one on his Birkin and seems to like it as well.

These are from either Burns or Coast fabrication. Coast makes the Burns units. According to Vince at Burns we need at lease a 4.5 dia and should keel with the same length as supplied by Caterham or it will be way to loud.
-
Jack, The group buy was suggested by pi7ot. I am only interested in a 4.5 x 24 x 2.0 in and 2.0 out. This will replace the Caterham muffler that I have now and be about 10 lbs lighter. I don't know how loud it will be and have a way to test it prior to build. I am also not interested in leading the group buy. Those that are interested in a group buy should call Vince at Burns. Maybe he doesn't care if everyone has different specs. Let him handle it.
-
I just spoke with Vince at Burns regarding a group buy. He would be interested in working with a group of 10 or more. I also suggested that he sign up with USA7s.com to stay in touch with the group. Here is his contact info: Vincent Roman Burns Stainless LLC http://www.burnsstainless.com 1013 West 18th Street Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (615) 750-2024 Office, (949) 631-5120 Shop, (615) 250-6717 FAX

6"OD is bigger than I want. I am looking at 4.5 OD 2.5 in and out with a 10 " 45 degree tail pipe. Contact Vince at Burns and ask. His direct number is 615-750-2024. I just left him a mesage.
-
Vince ar Burnssaid this: As you probably are aware, those engines are LOUD. I would not go smaller than 4-1/2” OD, as long as you can and a 2-stage. Better yet, the 6-1/4” can, Please let me know how I can be of further assistance. Thank you both for your reply. I would imagine that all mufflers will get a little louder with age. I had seen the Burns test. However, their website does not offer a 22 inch muffler. I am looking at their 17 x 2" in and out. I am also looking at the HushPower 18" x 2" in and out. The Burns is about twice as much as the HushPower. But, the Burns is repackable. I am leaning twoards the Burns at this point.
