  1. Tom, This sounds great. I will PM you for more details.:hurray: Thanks, Dave
  2. How many cars do they limit to a run group? We have a good number of 7s now. 3 or 4 more would be so cool. Don't know if I would want be in our group running something else. I hope the other cars all have good mirrors. It is going to be lots of fun!!!!
  3. This was a great thread to read. Many thanks to MichaelD for starting it. Now, all I need to do is find a way to come up with some bucks. I now know who to talk to to make it happen.:driving: Thanks to everyone who participated. Dave 2003 Zetec S1
  4. Tom, thanks for the link. After reading it, I now know 10 times more about my gear box and where to go next. It may have saved me from doing a rebuild. I was entertaining trying new synchros to fix the problem. At this point I am pretty sure that is not going to be necessary. Quaife recommends TITAN RACE SRG 75 or to call them concerning SILKOLEAN oils for their gearboxes. I believe a few years ago I added a couple oz. of Silkolean to top mine off before taking it to Summit Point. As far as the ATF, the only reason I did not reject that idea is because my Volvo 240's used ATF in the manual gear box due to the overdrive unit. Based on what I have read so far, I think I am going to go with the MT90 instead of the MTL. Running on the track in the summer the temps get much hotter than just driving around on the road, I think the heavier oil might be a better choice. I don't know about the Caterham's, but the S1 is almost completely enclosed under the car, including the engine bay. The engine and trans and everything else get very hot due to less air flow than if there was more ventilation. My gas tank in the rear even warms up on 2 hour trips. Steve, I just bought a 5" stainless tube and mandrel bent 2.5 pipe to make up a new exhaust for my car. I am going to make it so I can remove the ends so I can play with baffling. I am pretty happy with the sound level of my car now. But it has both ends welded and I have cut and rewelded enough times that the steel has gotten brittle and it tends to crack over time. I saw in your avatar that it looks like you have a bigger silencer, what did you get? Thanks for all the help guys! Dave
  5. I have done a bit of looking. My Superformance S1 manual specifies either Motorcraft mercron synthetic E6AZ019582-B or Qakerstate synthetic blend Mercron part #406448. I am not sure what is currently in it. I have not had to do anything with it since I bought the car. Some where I thought I ran across information recommending something different, but I don't remember where I ran across it and can't find it again. I went to my local Advance Auto parts and I showed them the info from my manual. The said there is only one oil that is synthetic that is Mercron. It is an automatic trans fluid. I don't have a lot of confidence that this is the correct oil.
  6. What oil should I get for my T9 transmission. It is a 5 speed and has the Quaife Clubman gears. Also, my second gear synchro is not up to handling high RPM shifts. It is fine up to about 5k, but above that I have to wait till the rpms come down or go up before pushing the shift lever. If I don't it will grind. Can adjusting the oil used help this? Thanks, Dave
  7. Thanks for the offer on the mirrors Tom. I will let you know if I can't come up with a pair of mirrors. I am glad to find out that the wind deflector is optional. I will probably forgo trying to fabricate one and just concentrate on getting mirrors. I don't think the mirrors will be as difficult to come up with. Dave
  8. Mike and Jude, Thanks for your input. I now know I MUST do something. I have had it at Summit Point 3 times and was lucky with the windshield. Probably due to running in the novice group. The majority of the cars were much slower and I don't think they tended to kick must stuff up. The traffic on track was more like driving on the street with normal traffic. I am really looking forward to driving on the track with others who are closer to my pace. That is if I can keep up! I plan to pull the windshield off this weekend and start planning on how to fabricate what I need. Do you know if it is required to have some sort of wind deflector, or do I mainly need to worry about mirror(s)? Thanks, Dave
  9. Please move me from spectator to driver. :driving: I am registered to drive both days. I also reserved a VIP suite. I asked for an (short) instructor to help me get familiar with the track. I think after that I can learn from following you guys. From what I have seen the last 2 years you all have the track down pretty good. I am going to remove the passenger seat pads to match the driver side. I don't think I need to come up with any pads other than the towel to put behind my lower back. See the pics below. There is a contoured fiberglass shell to sit on and it is not that bad to sit on. It will take me some time getting use to sitting in a more reclined possition. I plan on keeping the doors on (they are removable) as they do not reduce my visablity any and I like the protection from stuff kicked up by the front tires. Although I am thinking about trying to take the windshield off and come up with the small wind deflectors or even run with out anything if that is allowed. In this case the windows will have to come off. My windshield has integrated defroster wires in it and I doubt I can get a replacement windshield for it. Dave
  10. OK, take a look at these pictures and tell me if you think my helmet is low enough now to pass the broom stick test at NJMP. I removed the back/bottom of the seat (it is one piece). With a chair cushion behind my lower back to keep my butt forward I was able to get down a few inches. I am going to go for a drive and see how this will be. My possition is reclined closer to a formula car reclined possition. My vision in front of the car is a lot different too. Avoiding spots on the road will be different, since my last view of the road is considerably further out in front of the car. I have to stretch to see my hood. Also, do I need to do anything with my passenger seat? I wouldn't mind having an instructor to get introduced to the line. Although I could probably pick it up by following others that know the track. Dave
  11. Tom, I did not think of trying that. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks, Dave
  12. :svengo: Well I just had my wife take a couple photos with the new helmet I bought to meet the helmet regs for this year. And it is way thicker over my head than my old helmet. It was just below (maybe 1/2 inch) the roll bar. I guess I will be a spectator again this year. :banghead: Dave
  13. Hey Tom, Last PM was from 3/15. I am going to check my roll bar height today. My helmet is below the roll bar. I just need to make sure it is low enough to clear the line from the bar to the hood. If all is good I will register today. I will try to get one of the suites at the track as well. Dave
  14. Yes. Thank you for the Freedom we enjoy!
  15. Tom, You will have to put me down as aspectator again this year. I will be recovering from shoulder surgery. :banghead: I really wanted to drive on the track this year. I even bought a new helmet. My wife and I plan to come as a spectators again this year. Dave D
  16. Sorry, I was looking at the wrong month. The surgery is 5/18.
  17. I have surgery scheduled for 6/15 to have my rotator cuff fixed. I am not going to be able to drive. I am still planning to come up and watch. Dave S1 #50
  18. Thanks, I'll give them a try. Dave
  19. How is the sign up rate going? Any estimate on when would be a good time to sign up? Can anyone give me information on reserving the rooms at the track and when to reserve them too? Thanks, Dave
  20. I am having problems finding a header collector ring with the same bolt spacing as the headers on my car. No one specifies the bolt spacing in their ads. I called Summit Racing because they list several different rings by different manufacturers. They told me that all the ones they sell have a bolt spacing of 3-1/2" for the 2.5" pipes. My header has a 2.5" exit and the bolts are 3-1/16" on center from each other. I am looking for weldable rings to match it so I can play with making a different silencer/muffler. Can anyone help point me to a source for rings this size? My original silencer needed repacked and I had to cut it to get to the inside. I ended up making a couple baffle packs for it and the one I have in it now works reasonably well. But cutting and rewelding it has made the steel very brittle and it keeps cracking. I have my eyes on parts to build a new one if I can find the collector ring to match my header collector ring. Thanks, Dave
  21. Added this to my calendar. Will see as time gets closer whether I can make it. I would love to join you all.
  22. Fortunately I am no where near as tall as Steve. I can get a good picture of me at Summit Point with my helmet on that shows the hoop is above my helmet if needed. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/picture.php?albumid=29&pictureid=200
  23. You can count me in.
  24. Croc, Nice video. Really enjoyed it. I am set to come out and join you guys on the track next year. Dave
  25. If you keep me up on when you guys are going to try and find Vansant Airport, I'll see if I can fly in and meet you guys there. It sounds like a really interesting airport. Dave
