  1. Got a few bits in today. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/DE94BBFB-A87A-4ECF-BB94-E67357753D05-6693-000007E99BFED58B_zps1f38c14b.jpg Also made this today to help pressure bleed the rear brakes. I have had issues pressurizing the rear brakes with vacuum brake bleeders at the wheels. I heard some folks say that they had more success with a pressure bleeder. I added a tire valve to a caper bottle lid and with the help of a bicycle pump and a delicate hand, i should have a perfect pressure bleeder. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/6EA5A06A-09A2-4B4B-A91B-B247F2A86286-6693-000007E98DF0C185_zps8f816278.jpg
  2. It will peel off in that situation. any twisting or sliding will tear it and it will peel. I love using it though, and have used it on a grill of a car that traveled 100K and it looked as good as the day I installed the dipped part. Impacts are a nonissue, but even tightening a bolt onto a dipped part, and the dip lifts and twists. Here's a shot of some of the parts I've dipped. The following two pages have other dipped parts too. http://www.westernsubaruclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=6404.25
  3. I'm not sure if it was me per say, or the shop that ran the line that way. They were the last ones to assemble that section of pipe after a modification to the pump. Rear brakes bled tonight, and a last rinse of the blocks jacket before adding one T for the temp sensor and filling the coolant system. New Jenvey Manifold is on route now, and I hope to be seeing it in a week. Until then she's without a hood, but that's not needed for the tune anyway. I hope to have the tune done before the end of the month and the out of province when I get back from Hickory NC. the first week of May.
  4. I got it from a vendor on Ebay, but it seems he's the same fellow from thundersport. http://www.thundersport.co.uk/luggage/series3/s3-boot-bag-vinyl-45.html On the Birkin S3 the fit is a bit snug around the roll bar supports, but as the bag gets worn in the fit should be spot on. The quality is fantastic, the guy was very prompt in responding, and it shipped blisteringly quick.
  5. I received a little bling for the car today as well. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/FD2B1E9A-DBD9-4613-B474-0B005F0C22AC-194-0000000F672CFA21_zps538c508d.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/11E9A6DE-A16C-4C40-9A86-5BBD5FE82C13-194-0000000F5D2E16F5_zps8c30f249.jpg
  6. I did find a small challenge with the coolant system, so I decided to fix it as well. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/43e5898e-9250-489d-a35b-aaec705801ff_zps04df6783.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/de11d12a-4fa5-4b4e-bc7c-b9210c5ff9d4_zps6f90a3fa.jpg A quick cut of the pipe and a little rerouting, and the steering shaft shouldn't rub the coolant line. Stupid that I didn't catch it the first go around. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/33b18bed-ffeb-4a2e-b28d-3f0b8a8a2628_zpsd20516e0.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/58507ff4-a592-4d61-a277-e9499ee9a710_zpsbbf87b15.jpg
  7. I need to install another temp sensor for the gauge on the dash, so while the system is empty I figured now is the time. Unfortunately the bung is a different thread than the sensor, so I'll be ordering up an Autometer T adapter to install the sensor in the bypass line back to the pump. Unfortunately thats a few days away so the system will be sitting until then. I moved on to the coolant reservoir that also needed sorting. I have had the parts for weeks, but have only just got to work on it. I'll just let the pictures do the talking. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/36D2CE86-285E-4DEF-9266-B8181A423BED-194-0000000F464D94DC_zpsa414edb8.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/6531863A-D45A-4F17-BD9F-ECD17793C055-194-0000000F34120025_zps958eb061.jpg
  8. I changed the coolant today in Beatrice. Here's what it looked like. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/65D01663-1188-48E5-B3CF-611379513F76-1404-000001773578DD79_zps762c8e95.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/701E46C2-AE5F-4708-88CE-D7916C4A6206-1404-000001783BBC61C0_zpsc945b812.jpg After draining the coolant into the pail, I found a washer fluid bottle to look at the coolant over time. I was reasonably pleased to see that there was some pretty noticeable settling in the bottle, and nothing that appears to be oil floating on top. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/E1F2CC67-6EDE-4A32-89A4-AE0096D4436A-194-0000000ECD79C7DC_zps2ea1b8a6.jpg

    27th July Track Day

Sorry Terry. I checked the dates and I won't be able to attend.
  10. I'm being sent to Hickory for a visit of a vendors manufacturing facility. I figured I would post here to see if anyone is in that area, and what a car guy can do while there. Thanks.
  11. This weekend it was a little cool to work on her. I have a few projects yet to go on it, and I have found out that I am being sent away for work for a week very soon. I'll be heading to Hickory North Carolina for a visit to one of our vendors manufacturing facilities. I'll be halfway across the country and missing one of the best driving roads by 160 miles. :driving: http://www.tailofthedragon.com/
  12. Just surfing and found these. No affiliation. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-Caterham-7-/261199768537?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3cd0b82bd9&_uhb=1#ht_676wt_1400 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lotus-Other-/200914064671?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2ec769551f&_uhb=1#ht_889wt_1400
  13. Still have the coolant to do, and be sure the brakes and clutch are properly taken care of first. Out of Province is the next big challenge though.
  14. So this happened. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/b038f770-5c49-456d-8440-33fe1abfbced_zpsd651f5c9.jpg :party::party:

    27th July Track Day

I'm interested. When do you need the money for this, and how do I get it to you?
  16. How are you keeping all the leftover shoulder strap rolled up while using the car? I have tonnes of extra shoulder strap and was debating if I was going to cut it all off.
  17. I like the look of those lights, but they would require bodging to work on the Birkin I think. They are meant to be mounted against the back of the rolll bar. Unfortunately that means they would get in the way of the lid when it's on. I could mount those lights under the bar, but would have to fabricate an L bracket to hold it there, and it may not have the finished look I'm going for.
  18. How did I not find that thread? I searched for it. I think the light you have is the style I'll end up settling on, as it rests under the roll bar, and not on top. Thanks to you both in humoring me and kicking off the thread, lets keep it going. :smash:
  19. Hi everyone, I wanted to poll everyone for where they got their roll bar brake lights. I searched a bit on USA7s, and couldn't find a good reference thread. In the hopes of creating a master thread on the topic for future reference, I started this. If your up for it, post a link to where you bought the brake light, and a picture for reference. In future it could help many more than just muself. This all stemmed from my recent search for a roll bar mounted third brake light and the challenges of finding a light that suits the Birkin and the lid for it.
  20. I got your back. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1959-Lotus-7-Series-1-/200913975432?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2ec767f888
  21. The problem I have with the idea that it is oil, is the compression tests looked good. This was the first time it has been filled with coolant so I'm hoping its just residue. The engine does run, but has not been tuned, so the idle is way off, among other issues with driving it. I was going to drain it today, but I'll take your advice and get a cleaner for it.
  22. Lots of updates today. Today I think I also got the front brakes sorted and the the clutch bled as well. The whole brake system should be as easy as the clutch though. Open the valve, fill the tank, wait a minute until the fluid comes out the top, system bled. :cooldude: Alright, I still used the pressure bleeder, but no bubbles came out from the get go. I kept bleeding the clutch long after I needed so I was sure though. I started on the battery tie down as well today. Simple setup, but no pictures until its finished tomorrow. As a side note, I submitted the money and forms for the IBC issued VIN today.
  23. In working with the coolant today I had a look into the system with the plan to drain it tomorrow. Here's the mess that was found in the coolant system. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/E915F616-7F1F-47F1-9B38-D81CB5A0163C-6551-0000097C02E3652A_zps3cd20c45.jpg It looks like a cross between oil and rust. Remember the results from the shops compression and leakdown tests are: Cyl #1 145psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #2 150psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #3 150psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #4 150psi less then 10% leak-down Could this just be residue, or am I looking at a larger issue? Here's a dip test with a paper towel. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/68FEBFC8-2110-4F83-BB3E-2649C3059F03-6551-0000097C13855D47_zpsbdd5b99d.jpg
  24. So I've been contemplating what to do about this horrible mess. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/8545580C-1967-4FCF-B658-02FE6E686093-6551-0000097BB76276E0_zps2875b3f3.jpg The shop that was working on the car welded in another bung into the overflow tank, but had not thought about how to manage it, then handed it back to me with the extra spigot to figure out. I did a little looking around and found a tank that should work the way I want it set up; with one inlet to the tank and allowing syphon action to fill and empty the tank. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/0EF611BD-039F-4FDF-B27E-C55C17FF61AB-6551-0000097C23F79503_zpsb5e86ffd.jpg I like the way the new one looks, but I'll like it better when it's all black. I like that it has a separate tube for me to ensure there is always enough fluid in the tank to allow it to refill the system. There is a dip tube from the top bung that goes all the way to the bottom, and allows the tank to hold the minimum amount required to allow the coolant back into the system. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/B6B81517-AE0A-4C5B-A58F-7E74B531B5A1-6551-0000097BD09C072C_zpsc24bad26.jpg Today I had to rearrange the way the brake lines run to allow space for the overflow tank where I want it. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/0F64F63E-2105-4F33-95E5-C9DD0D7B78CF-6551-0000097BE763E73F_zps8e7fa325.jpg
  25. I guess that would work, I'd need to be spinning the pulley while terminating the exciter wire on the back of the alternator, all the while metering the output to see if it worked. That's a bit to handle so I think I'll just get it running and then terminate the exciter when the voltmeter is hooked up.
