I moved the collector forward as much as I can, and adjusted the fit of each pipe in the collector. I have a full inch of the header in each collector pipe. As a bit of assurance I did use the Ultra High Temp gasket maker, above and beyond fiddling with the fitment of each collector. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/IMG_1672_zpsccb7abe3.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/IMG_1673_zps1e74434e.jpg I have to move the muffler forward a 1/4 inch now to ensure the collector remains pushed up on the headers as much as they need to be. It will work out to be much easier to move the single mounting point of the muffler, rather than cutting an rewelding the mid pipe. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/IMG_1693_zpsebd6c38c.jpg

Not yet Bill. I did some fiddling with the headers and the collector. The hi temp gasket maker is curing as we speak. I will have to adjust the mounting point for the muffler though, as I was able to get the collector further up onto the headers than before. I got caught up over the las t few days and haven't had a chance to get to you. Would it be alright if I brought the keys and ramps back on Tuesday evening?

I think the first few blats for me will have to be short ones. I'll want to be sure the bugs have been worked out.

I think that most cameras available now should support that resolution, don't they? The Iphone 4 camera resolution is 2592x1936px, (5M) even though the apps on the device, and the screen itself can't support that size. 2048x1080 is only 2.2 Megapixel http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/79A51D94-4C30-45BA-979B-AA794C285C4A-2476-000002E5171B2352.jpg

We found it usually runs pretty easily. Selection process is a vote open to the community. That means the selection aggrees with the majority too, and avoids challenges later. The vote is usually a "Pick Three" type of thing, and the forum thread does the legwork. Editing is also made easier by stating the pictures have to be submitted in the proper resolution. If not in the proper resolution, then they aren't accepted, and the next highest voted picture fills that spot. One person does have to step up and be the contact to the service, but ordering is also done through that site, so the collection of money isn't even a concern. The rules as cut from my other clubs site: Every member of the Western Subaru Club is eligible, regardless of their car or join date. Each member may only submit ONE picture. If you submit more than one, you may be disqualified. If you want to change your entry before the deadline, you are free to do so, but just edit your post. You must own the rights to the picture that you choose to enter. Do not steal someone else's work. The submitted picture must be of a Subaru, owned by a member of the club. There are plenty of cool pictures on the internet, but that's not what this calendar is about. The submitted picture must not contain nudity or inappropriate content. People want to put this up at work. The submitted picture must be a high-quality image. 1024x728 does not cut it. Please strive for 2048 or higher. If you don't have a high-rez version, don't submit the picture. The submitted picture must be in landscape format. That is the format of the calendar and I don't want to have to deal with cropping. The submitted picture must not be a weird aspect. Keep in mind that this picture is going to be printed out probably on either 8.5x11 or 11x17. We don't want to have to put a lot of black space around the border. The pictures from last year's calendar are not eligible for entry into this year's calendar.

Like many of you I have a desk job, and use a calendar at my desk to coordinate my home and work life in ink. I failed to get this years Grassroots motorsports calendar and have already been noticing my life spiral into disarray. I wanted to put an Idea out there for this lovely group we have going here. A USA7s calendar. My Subaru club holds a contest of sorts every year. Members can submit any picture they like (assuming proper rights) of their car, group gathering, blat pics, that sort of thing. All the members then vote on the twelve months, and another for the acclaimed cover photo. The pictures once formatted are submitted to a service that creates the calendar, and then the club purchases them through the site. I can get more detail if there is interest here. Has this idea been pitched here before? Is there any interest?

Well here I am again. This time with the same challenges, but with some positive news. I brought Trixxy back to a buddies garage for me to work on her. Being the slow season, there was no need for the shop to stay open late and I needed to get in quite a bit over the coming months. Even though she is not tuned, I figured that it was best for me to get her home and sort out some of those details and challenges I have to face. I am going to be tracking the list of things left to do here. It will be subject to lots of changes as I fix some challenges and create others. I'm going to be a little more detailed in this list I think, as I need them to stay on top of things. Essencial for tune Engine - Sort out the oil in the coolant. There is no coolant in the oil that I can see, but have only checked the dipstick a thousand times. Vex did a compression test and leakdown for me. Results aren't bad, but who am I kidding.... I have no idea. Hopefully it is just residue. Cyl #1 145psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #2 150psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #3 150psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #4 150psi less then 10% leak-down - Finish the coolant reservoir. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication, and the overflow can had another spigot welded onto it. I have to sort out plugging it as it is not needed. A vented cap should be all I require with the one spigot that was previously on the can. - Sort out the collector/header slip joint. I get some leakage out the collector slip joints even though I have the slip a full inch into the collector. My other club has simply suggested VHT copper gasket maker, but if I use that solution I'd still rather have the slip fitting as close as I can first. I may need to stretch the inner tube a bit to get the fit needed. - Double check the fan relay to the fan, and finish the last of the water sealing heat shrink on that connection. Electrical - Test the rest of the electrical connections. There is a short in the read tail light housing currently. The chassis harness has not been blended to the motor harness fully yet, and as such I'll be spending a tonne of time ensuring the electrical is up to par. I will have a look at every wire, and ensure that the harness is fully sorted and to my liking. Brakes - Both Vex and myself had had challenges bleeding the brakes. I am not getting pressure to the four corners, and need to double check the brake system. According to the instructions, and pictures from numerous sources on the internet, I have them right, but Ryan thinks they are hooked up backwards. I'm willing to entertain that thought as we had the same results when bleeding the brakes. I'll add some pictures as I gather more and show you all what I mean. The brake balance bar needs to be adjusted to ensure that I'm getting more braking power to the front. Suspension The steering and suspension need to be sorted. I will need to sort the steering rack and ensure it is centred. Ride height will also need to be adjusted, as these cars like to dive forward in the corners, and the travel is needed to allow it to do so. Needed for inspection - Headlights need to be raised a bit as they have been hitting the fenders when at lock. - Finish the installation of the Harnesses - Test all the electrics for function - Install horn switch - Learn more about the whole process of getting a car VIN'd. Since the car runs but is not tuned yet, I'll be looking to get the car road legal and towed to Vex for tuning so I can drive it home.

If we had the money, we'd have a car with permanent doors?

Grace is heading for warmer roads :)

Now this thread got real interesting. Show us more of this new foreign land. :lurk: -
This year I am aiming to finish the project. That includes getting it complete, and road legal. I am twitching for my first Se7en drive.

I have to say that I am really digging the variety of cars on your lists.

I like the humidor as I enjoy the selection process involved. It becomes part of the ritual for me. Recently though I have found it is easier to use a converted wine fridge and age the cigars in there. Here in Calgary it gets very dry. The humidors I was using were getting dry despite the maintenance.
-
One very easy solution to this is to remove the cigar bands when entering the country. The border cannot seize the cigars on speculation they are from Cuba.

I am a fan of cigar smoking and thought I would see how many of you out there are as well (Brothers of the Leaf). The purpose of this thread will be to discuss our favourite cigars, tips on maintenance, pictures, reccomendations, drink pairings....the whole lot. I have been a fan of cigars for quite some time now, but have only had my tastes mature over the last 5 years or so. I was always picking up cigars from the local quick stop and for the most part enjoyed them. A while back I stepped into a proper cigar shop, and it changed my preferences drastically. I get out once a week or so, and a local club here meets once a month to enjoy a stick or two. I have a few standby faves right now in the Cohiba Maduro Secretos, Punch Royal Selection #12, Trinidad Reyes, and Romeo Y Julieta Short churchills. With the weather being as cold as it has been here, I got some cheap Jose L. Piedra Petit Cazadores for the days I feel like I'll have to pitch the stick early. I collect and smoke mostly Cuban cigars in a Petit Corona size, as that fits best with my time / smoke allotments, and for me there is something very special about Cuban cigars. They seem to have that "twang" that is missing from other cigars. That's not to say I haven't found good non-cuban cigars though. Recently I purchased some Room 101 One Shot One Kill Filero's, and they have changed some of my most Cuban snobby friends. So are there any other Brothers of the Leaf out there in Se7en land?

I have a couple of that one. I found that it shrank a lot after washing. I advise getting a size larger than you think you may need.

Have a great Holiday season Everyone!!

All My Cars misled me a bit, and reminded me of a topic that is on many of my other forums, and I thought I'd try it here. What does your automobile past look like? What have you owned, and what do you miss the most? I'll start; 1989 GMC Sierra (The big safe learning to drive vehicle) 1968 VW Beetle (First project car, All show no go) 1995 Lada Niva (The toughest 4x4 of all my friends at the time) 2002 Subaru TS (Not a WRX ) 2003 WRX (My all go no show Auto-x car) 1999 Birkin (still not finished :willy_nilly:) 2012 Jeep Unlimited I miss the WRX and the Lada the most. I put my heart and soul into both cars. The WRX for racing, and the Lada for backwoods camping.

I keep plugging at it. I wish the tune was complete before dragging it home, but the tow is almost free, so I really can't complain. It will be all I expect it to be or I'll die trying.

Leakdown test results are in, and it seems a little confusing. I am in new territory here, so any help would be great. Cyl #1 145psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #2 150psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #3 150psi less then 10% leak-down Cyl #4 150psi less then 10% leak-down No residue on the dipstick either. Also a huge thanks to Bill. I picked him up, and he took the time to introduce me to his friend that stores the trailer. This paves the path for me to go gather the trailer and bring her home to keep working on it. I'm telling you......Great bunch of folks we have here!!

Yeah, I found out last night, and I was pretty bummed about it. It just seems to be conspiring against me, the blasted thing! Any other things I should be looking for to determine the challenge? It was described as brownish "goo" in the coolant when I talked to the tuner about it.
-
......and disappointed again. Seems to be a theme here. The harness is wired, the front brakes are bled, and the she runs. The challenges are that the headers are still not sealed to the collector very well. There are lots of significant leaks around the slip joints. This will cause trouble for the O2 sensor in the collector, and needs to be resolved. For some reason the brakes are having trouble creating pressure, and the rears have not get fluid to them yet. I left the rears to gravity feed for the last two weeks because that's as often as I get to visit it at the shop. Lastly, and most disappointingly, there seems to be brownish "goo" in the coolant. I have not checked the oil yet to see if there are deposits in the there, yet. I have read a little, and hope that the problem is only the head Gasket. Seriously though, a head gasket on a 0km motor????:banghead: I have decided to get the car home to work on it in my garage. Since it runs, I can work on sealing the headers and test it. All the other little bits can be sorted before the tune as well. I have never removed the head from an engine before, but I guess it gives me the opportunity to swap out the VCT head for one that will help provide more power. With that, I may be looking to borrow a trailer over the holidays (just for one day though) anyone have one gathering snow?

I think you know the answer there. :boxing: I hope to see it again this week, and finish off the rear brakes. (the last thing needed from me to get it on the dyno) With how busy I am at work, and the shop not open late, I hardly get to see her. The shop knows I'm collecting it before Christmas, with or without the tune complete. As I was putting it together, it reminded me of a picture posted not too long ago actually.
