turn signals and hazards stopped working
Jackal replied to MNlotus's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Interesting. Does your flasher relay have three or four prongs on it? Since it works through one full cycle, there won't be an obvious short until it oscilates. Is it the same if the first oscilation is switched by the turn signal or the hazard? Same result I mean? I'm thinking a three prong flasher has failed, as they have a direct connection to ground. Something in the flasher may be causing a short from the power to ground plug in the relay (flasher) itself. -
turn signals and hazards stopped working
Jackal replied to MNlotus's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Can't say for sure. I imagine close to the fuse block. Usually they are cylinder shaped. If you have changed to LED light bulbs a certain flasher relay is needed, otherwise there is not enough load for them to oscillate. -
turn signals and hazards stopped working

Also adding to this.... The flasher relay could cause an issue as well. These fail often and if it is shared with the turn signals (unlikely) it would affect both the turn and hazard. -
You Wear A Helmet For Causal Driving?
Jackal replied to nicholastanguma's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Believe me when I say that recently I have been having my doubts. :willy_nilly: -
I just went through this with my application to get a VIN, and found that the T9 will very often not have a SN for it. Mine didn't actually have a number on it anywhere. Of course the Trans was in the car so the view was limited.

You Wear A Helmet For Causal Driving?

For casual drives I don't think I'll wear a helmet. I did get a new helmet for Auto-x though, and had to show it off since the topic came up. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/IMG_1842_zps0c223974.jpg -
First attempt from my buddy at fixing the rad has created a bigger issue. Lets see what a proper rad shop can do from this. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/IMG_4773_zps82996efd.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/IMG_4772_zps0b7c0773.jpg

No further news at this time. I am getting the hole in the radiator fixed now, and should hear something tomorrow. Then back together, and tune. One step at a time for me.

That was if I was able to bring her home. Unfortunately she wasn't ready, again. The rad is getting welded now, the alternator pully and new battery are in the back of my car, and I should be able to see her on the dyno before the end of this week, but I'm at a point where I've stopped holding my breath.

So this is what happens when I forget to put a bolt into the top mount of the rad fan. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/935D2F23-518F-4B48-AB45-85DCD5B01278-3362-0000035655C25706_zpsaf747b6d.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/D5915945-DEA3-44B6-913D-6280ADD6D440-3362-000003564C06F319_zps4af27076.jpg

Uhhhh.... Hello? I'm living vicariously through you all, where are the pictures?!?!?!?!?

Hopefully I'll have her home to be working on, but if I don't and I went in the jeep, i'd just be down that I didn't have a car parked with the others.

I'm unable to hitch a ride for the blat, and Beatrice will be getting worked on anyway. I am out for this one folks.

I agree completely. I have heard back that there is a good chance that the heims will pass with the safety's and have just had two rush ordered to me. All I need now will be some metric 10.9 10 mm carriage bolts that are a bit longer to accomodate the washer and give it a go I guess.

I am hearing the same thing from the Yahoo Birkin group as well. Birkins have always seemed to use heim joints on them. This is problematic though, as two inspectors have told me that they will not pass inspection here in Alberta. I was hoping there would be a simple swap across to satisfy the inspectors and be a reasonably priced/ timed solution. It appears if I have to swap the heims out to satisfy the inspection, it could be a lengthy search for the parts and rebuild the front of the car. The shop that machines the ball joint solutions mentioned that the turn around time is around six weeks. That kills most of the season for me. It is a solution though, as it can be a full custom ball joint solution that will fit exactly as the current parts do. I spoke with another fellow yesterday, and he mentioned the use of a safety washer that would make the heims fully legal for road use here, and I am searching for further clarification from both my inspector and resources on the internet. This would be the best solution for me, I just hope it is considered on the up and up.

Hello Everyone. I have run into another snag with getting my little beast on the road. This time it is directly related to the steering rod ends that came with the suspension components. My car currently has heim joints on the steering rod ends, and that will not pass inspection. I am in a panic to find a replacement for them as I was hoping to be on the road in the next couple of weeks. I found a shop locally that will make some for me, but it is a custom build and machining which comes at considerable expense. The steering rack seems to be off a Escort MK 2, but the rod ends are different than the ends I've seen on Ebay for the MK 2. I called Texasmotorworks and they were not sure about what car the rack came from. I also asked about replacing the heims and he mentioned he has not had to deal with the challenge before, and was not sure about where to get ball joint replacements. He put me in touch with a fellow here in Alberta, and I caught him on the phone just after selling his Birkin. This other fellow mentioned he didn't remember what he had on the ends, but that it was not an issue at the time of inspection. Specifically for Birkin owners (1999), what ball joint replacements are you using? Do your Birkins have any part number markings on the steering rod ball joints that I could look up? Pictures say thousands of words right? Here's my current setup. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/9FC79093-AAFD-4212-9838-B4CD546380CC-29187-0000186DA76D246C_zps8927d40b.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/4F18F920-5010-4B12-B4FC-6AB80F5580C6-29187-0000186DAF548233_zps3392bca8.jpg

I have talked to another member here about getting it on the road. Although the heim joints still need to be replaced, all the other stuff will not. The shop has gotten back to me today and they anticipate it will be ready for the end of the week. Then it will be off to the other bloke once I replace the heims.
-
I will. I needed to get away this weekend though. It and other things have been eating at me, and I needed some distance. Back on topic here.... The destination, and who has a spare seat or two?
-
I'll let you know as soon as I know. The shop hasn't gotten back to me with any type of timeline for the tune, despite me calling a couple times for updates.
-
The problem I have now is if the shop has put me on the AT radar for these items, then it doesn't matter where I go. Eventually I'll be registering it and subject to a possible follow up inspection from AT. I really am frustrated to the point of just not finishing it.
-
I'm fairly certain that due to another road block thrown at me, I will not be ready for this blat.
-
Updates..... Well lets see. My shop bumped me back again for a couple weeks to work on another project (seems to be a pattern here), then proceded to call Alberta Transportation to verify some things on my car before bothering to send it to his guy that actually does the OOP. This has apparently put my car on the radar of Alberta Transportation as I got a call from registries Friday, stating that something was wrong with what they put on the OOP form four weeks ago. :banghead: Apparently I need bumpers to be put on to be road legal, and I need to replace two heim joints on the steering rod ends with ball joints. Apparently only my car requires these things, as others that have gone through the shop, have had no challenges with the same setup. :banghead: At what point do I just pack it in and say F**k it? Not one bloody thing has gone straight forward with this car, and all the challenges with shops and parts and people seem exclusive to my build. I'm frustrated, I'm disheartened, and I'm just about to pack the bloody thing in.

I'd like to echo lancy's thanks for the concern. I am in Calgary but fortunate enough to be on the highest ground within eyeshot. I have stayed home today as my workplace very early in the morning decided the roads were best left to emergency services, some of whom have been working for 23+ hours straight. Big thanks to those working to keep people safe, and I hope all the other members of our community stay dry.

Yes, I posted this notice everywhere. Thanks for all the suggestions thus far. I'll post some of the links I got there, here to spread the knowledge. http://www.findpart.org/part/fia-4343762 http://www.autopartoo.com/oem/fiat/4343762.html https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-A-qGgV_fYs0/UcECuYi1oTI/AAAAAAAAECw/BseVNS2pN2Q/s754/TieRods2.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Wqa_sap6ukE/UcECtgsSjzI/AAAAAAAAECo/H5e_sCJYX1Q/s902/TieRods1.jpg
