Hi all. I have just been given an opportunity to wrap my Se7en in good quality 3M vinyl for a great price. I have never been fond of the yellow and since the opportunity is there I thought I may just take them up on the offer. I am familiar with wraps and how they work on normal cars, and part of the reason I have the deal is a friend who just had her Audi TT wrapped and it turned out spectacular. Has anyone here gone the route of vinyl wrap? Were you happy with the results overall. Anything I should be aware of before wrapping the Se7en specifically? I realize I'll be taking a step backwards in my progress, but the Birkin comes apart easily enough, so it shouldn't be too bad. If you have pictures of wrapped Seven's, I'd love to see those too. I'm currently deciding on a colour, and have a couple in mind, but want something original.

Just throwing it out there that there, was some chat about a blat in the near future. I'm checking who may be in. It turns out I'm free the long weekend, but busy the following two. One is boys weekend in the States, and the other is this: http://quarryparkandpolish.com/ Just to let you know, this was easily one of the best shows last year with one of our very own taking a prize home. He was sitting beside a gorgeous E-type no less. I was in heaven. Where else will you see a Morgan in town? Any interest in a few Se7ens Gathering? I know my Subaru guys have a little section for themselves. Let's not get shown up by the youngins.

I won't be out this Sunday unfortunately. I have yet to tow a car to a race and want the first race I'm in to historically be the same. I'm also off to BC for the week leaving on saturday.

It's late. I also finished off the wiring for the speedo today. That should conclude all the concerns other than the seatbelts. I haven't tested the speedo for function yet because like an idiot I forgot my key at home and don't feel likes king the run back. Let me just say what a pain in the assay the wiring is once the scuttle is on.

I suppose in time I'll just shore up the bumper I'm building. Speaking of that..... Here's some pictures. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/64DB0E5B-9047-4C27-BBBF-B02476D4857C_zpsnv2tpuep.jpg The tube got bent a little unevenly. The next step is to cut the passenger side to match a bit more to the drivers. The centre of the drivers side arm is at 45cm exactly. I'll be welding in a bracket off the bottom of the tire carrier and drilling holes through that bracket and the tube to mount the bar permanently. Then I'll cut them all to length and cap the ends with reflectors. This should satisfy another requirement of the bloke at the government.

In my car I lined the entire foot box with thin adhesive aluminum insulation. I also lined the side panel under the door panels with the same stuff to insulate from the exhaust. Under the hood I wrapped all the headers individually with header wrap, and I'll be wrapping the remainder of the exhaust including the muffler.

Rolling through the list one by one. Rear bumper is still just a plan in my head, but four 45 degree bends should be all I need. I'll cut the 45's into lengths and rotate them as needed and weld them back together like one would build herders. It should look the part. I'll be mounting it under the rear tire carrier so I need not worry about losing the license light or what could be said is half the bumper system. Fuel gauge and sender have been matched and installed. The Birkin, non threaded tank is a bit of a pain to work with, but I eventually got the sender in. Silly that I was doing that with a full tank of gas after testing the previous setup. Cross that off the list. Wiper works!!! Just not when everything is assembled. (?) Bugger!! I'll be playing with this more to find were it's binding. Ball joints have been replaced. While I was at it I started adjusting the tie Rod ends. The alignment was way out and the steering wheel wasn't centred. It's a bit of a pain to setup, and where I'm currently stuck. I am starting with centring the rack and the steering wheel. Then I have to adjust the tie Rod ends. There was some of the adjuster that wasn't threaded and it wasn't allowing for the full adjustment of each side. Now the parts are fully tapped it's a matter of setting them in spot and allowing for adjustments.

Dependent on the layout of your car, jacking it up one way or another with the coolant cap open may get rid of the air pockets.

Showing off your car is what this site is all about. Keep the pictures coming, and any other projects you have.

Welcome to Calgary!! I may be busy for most of your visit, but I sure hope you have a good time while you're here.

Double post!! Bill, I sent an email to your shaw.ca address. It's just the poster for now, as I am asking for some details above the poster content. After three years they have _finally_ accepted me into the organizing fold, but they seem a bit less organized than I'm used to. If some folks have some time on the 20th, you may be able to show off your Se7ens as an AutoMann car. lol
-
Not sure what part you want more info on. The seatbelts or the car show? The seatbelts are detailed on the other page so I'll go on about the car show. Every year Shaw does a show and shine. It's not big, but it's a chance for car aficionados to bring out their cars and have a lazy afternoon in the parking lot. Previously they invited a tuner shop, and they have again, but I think they stipulate that the shop had to bring prizes. Seems cheesy to me, but I don't organize it. The parking lot at the Hopewell (close to princess auto north) gets sectioned off for the show. I believe that the shop(s) get designated sections in the action. I can get you more details if your interested.

^^^ That sounds like a common sense answer. All of those criteria are met in spades on my car. The challenge is that none of this was through the inspector. The guy that seems to be making stuff up as he goes along is the guy from the government who rubber stamps the inspection. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/Beatrice%2006%202014/00000000-0000-0000-0000-0000000021D8_zpsh4vgeomq.jpg

Well see that's where it gets difficult. The one stipulation the guy from the government said was that the seatbelt MUST have the CMVSS stamp. This does not exist. No seatbelt in the world has ever had the CMVSS stamp on it. This is because before the CMVSS, Canada started putting the safety qualified stamps in the door jam. This allowed for one stamp to qualify all the safety devices on a car. So, since the seatbelts the government want are as hard to find as unicorns (ie Impossible), I have to find a seatbelt that will work safely with the limited space I have in the Se7en S3 (narrow body) that was legal in Canada. Since the stamp is in the door jam, pulling one from the wreckers won't do because I'll need a paper trail i'm guessing to qualify the seatbelt. All this still blows my mind, because I have the best 50 state legal belts money can buy in the car already. Despite the homogenization of the standards across the border and the obvious safety they provide, the bloke from the government wants some crap stock belt that doesn't exist in the car.

Any pics from the show? I'm not as close as I'd like. I need to figure out what the hell happened to my wiper motor and get one in, and seat belts that comply. I wanted to see what I can scrounge up for inspection. I'm missing the Shaw show and shine on the 20th, but I know they were inviting shops (provided that have prizes to offer ). I would be remiss if I didn't mention it to you.

Hi all. I have a thread up on the topic already, but my mobile version of the forum will not allow for search. I am replacing the upper ball joints on the 99 Birkin and ran into a snag. I purchased the ball joints discussed in the other thread (the Lada ones) from a shop in another city. Unfortunately my ball joints differ from the ones I got. I'm checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue on the Birkin and what ball joints you used. Pics are worth a thousand words, so here we go. New ball joint on the left. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/Beatrice%2006%202014/DD1BC181-4B7F-415D-A3E5-49239501F0BD_zpsa93pyehv.jpg Here's what I need to do a direct replacement. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l294/nivaguy/Beatrice%2006%202014/A69B7DF5-6086-4B06-8A12-A929F8643395_zps0cpg6ddu.jpg I'll amalgamate the two threads when next at a proper computer, but really need to start moving forward with the repair so I'm posting here first. Thanks In advance.

What are you bringing there? You most likely have a selection of shop cars you can show off. When you get back, give me a ring. I'll be on the lookout for a wiper motor and seat belt to satisfy the inspection.

Alright here is the list from memory, (there may be more) - Bumpers Front has been welded up and ready to be cut to length. Rear needs to be fabbed. Just doing a straight bar across the rear - Fuel Gauge I metered out the sender and got 156 Ohms. Next I''ll fill the tank and meter it again. The results determine the gauge I buy - E-Brakes They have been tightened up. Cross that off the list - Speedo cable The sender is wired and ready, the back of the gauge needs to be connected then tested. Apparently it will pass even though it's not calibrated, just as long as it shows life - Tach What the hell is wrong with it? - Wiper Motor It was working, and now it's not. Frustrating. Look up motor PN and start scouring the inet. - Ball joints Replace the top ones with ones on hand, and photograph the bottoms for the inspection guy. - Roll cage Bolt it down - Side marker reflectors Attach them - Seat belts Replace my spectacularly expensive and capable seat belts that are 50 state legal, with some crap from a car that was sold in Canada.

.....and I was just notified I'll be missing the Shaw Show and shine on the 20th. Maybe next year.
