  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsReyTjPyZ8 I wouldn't but someone in a green one did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rp1EybiEmI&feature=related In part 2, its daylight and you can see the road better. I would have done it on one of my dirt bikes but not in any car I have. Funny thing is, I thought of getting a Bug.
  2. Hi Mcneil, I have an Locost Bec R1 and I thought I give you my input from the past couple of years. A Locost frame can be 80% built in a weekend and IF you planned on racing it like Jeff Underwood then I would recommend a motorcycle engine. They are cheap and fast, about half the cost of my build was engine. But, you wanted a fast street car, all sevens are fast on the street. I have a great soundtrack and a cool shifter and as much as I jab Mazda and the others here about their choice of engines. I believe a car engine is easier to drive and more comfortable. My car has never missed a beat and during two days at the Dragon I had 325 miles on the local roads. I will however be towing my car to Carlisle, 6 hours at 7000 rpm on the interstate is too much, along with stop-n-go traffic will make you regret your engine choice. I sat in Doug's Westfield and checked it out a couple of times. If I wanted a kit, it would be first on the list or had to have a motorcycle engine then Deman. The Ultralights look great but Pa. requires safety glass. I wish I could pull off the windshield and use a helmet but can't. I encourage you to check them all out as each one is different. I might be a couple of tenths quicker on a track because I'm about 200 pounds less than other cars and if that is important to you great, but make sure you really want a race engine for the street. I use my car like a sportbike, a couple of hours a week to relax but never to go pick up milk and not far from home its not a tourer. Some more thoughts for you to ponder.
  3. Thanks Southwind, I'm not a city person and stay as far away from Pittsburgh as I can. I think you'll be interested in this. http://www.pvgp.org/6746931219135011/site/default.asp It is the test and tune day at the raceway the week before the Grand Prix. Three years ago the first sevens I ever seen were there. You can walk through out the pits and chat with the people about their cars. The charity run is great $10 for a lap around the track at speed(not a 30mph Conga line), Porsches, GT40, Jags, vintage cars of your choice. Its an hour from my house and probably where I'll do some autocrossing.
  4. Hi Southwind, could you keep me posted. Where are the locations of the shows, I never heard of them? If they are close enough I might drive the seven up for the day, if I can find some fun secondary roads. I don't like taking the BEC on the interstate. I won't be showing, just driving up to see the cars.
  5. My buddy sent this to me, thought you might like to see it. :7fume:
  6. EX, lots of options available. A Regal GNX motor will fit in a standard "book chassis". The NA version is in the frame sitting in front of the garage, it could be intercooled, turboed and MegaSquirted very easily. Its the only seven I know of with a little go pedal and a big whoa pedal, no clutch needed. Why not put a motorcycle engine in? A 150 pounds for an Aluminum 4 cyl with a sequential tranny and FI, 175hp at 14000 rpm all for under $2000. I shift out of first near 70, plus they can be turbo to over 300 hp if you want. Those Chevy V8s are for AARP members like Mazda, I only need half the pistons to keep up. :boxing: :jester:

    Q

Welcome TurboBird, The one requirement from all English products is that they leak oil. I'm glad your box stayed together as I've heard they had some problems with them. It could be the owner/operator that's mostly responsible. O.T. Did you bring in a Cat and build a Blackbird yourself or self-build from scratch? What's your story, there are only a handful of street legal BECs in the U.S., the club is small and not many names to remember.:bigears:
  9. My girl can't handle twisty roads but she's great on a 10 mile bike ride or hiking in the woods. She mostly patrols the yard for chipmunks or squirrels. I don't know how she winked at the camera. The neighborhood kids love her. I always give them a 20 yard head start when they race her and they always loose. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2057138100_7finish 014.jpg
  10. Count me in. I'll be towing in Friday, van camping and leaving Saturday late afternoon. How are you going to put all 25 cars under a 20'x20' tent, stack 'em? The Elises should go on the bottom. :jester: I don't care who we share the tent with :grouphug:...as long as they don't play that thumping Crap music..I mean Rap music.:smash:
  11. Check this out, http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/import/details.asp 2008 is a British theme, are we going to have a 7 contingent there? I'll likely tow mine out,as long as the whole weekend doesn't look like this. :7rain:
  12. We need 1 more. A car in a garage with snow falling. Last week snow and 20s, today it tops 65* here, new record. :willy:
  13. Just wondering, todays the 21st and they were shipped on the 11th. Has the Nina made Jamestown from France, yet? I'm excited for my Christmas gift even if its belated.
  14. I thought this might be of interest to everybody but wasn't sure where to place it. While looking for engine upgrades on motorcycle sites, I ran across local motorcycle clubs in my area that had routes for trips and had been evaluated for bikes. I planned on doing these trips next year. I included 2 links only for examples. (some routes throughout 7 pages) http://www.scpmc.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=a1e4ac6adb9c2ba39792b494b788f49f http://www.motoroads.net/pa/pa.htm I was thinking if everybody from each state found a local motorcycle clubs routes they could be put in a road trips linked page or in the appropriate events section. Motorcyclist seem to find the best roads. I was getting bored with my unplanned roadtrips this past fall. I found enough routes to last a couple years. These sites are more sport-tourer oriented and seven friendly. Some of the road pictures I viewed look like a lot of fun. While writing I found this web site: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/ Have fun planning next summers blats, Merry Christmas.
  15. Thanks Mazda and Gary, The night before a trip, I'd sit down with maps, plot out a route, mileage and stops. Navigation comes easy to me, my times and mileage were always close. There are a lot of features I liked with the mapping program and I thought a gps would be a big help. Every time I tested it, I was disappointed. The route being too long or out of the way. Gary can you imagine taking your rig down a township road because IT told you to, trees ripping at the A/C units and the rear gouging out the blacktop trying to go up a hill. Its enough to make me turn the laptop into a UFO. I'll check out iNavigate and test a couple before I buy one. Maybe the last couple of years the programs have become more advanced. I guess I have a problem letting a maching tell me where to go AND trusting it.
  16. For the past 2 years I found myself in the wrong gear, by accident starting in 3rd or cruising in 5th, just forgetting how many clicks I did. All the information my cluster has why not a gear change indicator? I been looking through the R1 motorcycle forums and found a lot of important info, things I need to change during the winter. I figured you guys would like to know about this. http://www.datatool-1st.co.uk/html/electronic.html Its available in the US and I found Acumen manufactures one but theirs is $160. I'll know what gear I'm in next year, how about you?
  17. I have a couple of questians for those that use gps. Is the program software better and can you use it as a map to plot your own trip? To explain a little, I mostly navigate but sometimes pull a 30' trailer on vacations. I was going to use a laptop with software for navigating so I borrowed a Delorme map program from a friend and it would either select interstate only or farm roads. I was planning a trip to Maine and had me going in/by N.Y.C.. That is not someplace I want to maneuver my trailer, the road you travel shouldn't be a hassle. I plotted going to camp. It shot me towards Pittsburgh then on an expensive toll road and the other way was tortuous back county roads. The other trips I've planned shot me states out of my way. I thought it was this software but a locost buddy came to see me and he had a gps (TomTom I think). I talk with him after he left, its a 45 min drive with 5 main roads to his city. He said he did 6 dozen left and right turns to get him home. Maybe they should rename it DumDum. My trip this year to meet everyone at the Dragon had me starting from my house going on back roads I wouldn't want to take the seven on let alone a truck and trailer, lefts and rights, starts and stops for miles. All the while a perfectly good paved road that I travel for 10 years was less than 1/4 mile away and after 4 miles it join the route. Is the software so poorly written that IF road A is X long GOTO Y ELSE Z. I'd like to update and get a gps but if they are all that way I'll stay with my 2D manual nav system(maps). I would like others impressions of them. Thanks.
  18. Top Gear ran the CSR260 aound their course at 1.17.4 and it beat the Koenigsegg by .2 sec setting the record. Yesterday on You-Tube, I watched as the Caparo T1 destroy it at 1:10+, its a scary street legal car, but maybe in 10 years I'll add a turbo and swoopie body work like Jack's X-project to my car. I don't have the link but its not hard to find.
  19. I have one of those and got an F1 motor with it for 10% of that. I pulled it out of one of these. http://www.weshow.com/us/p/16797/yamaha_yzf_r1_and_valentino_rossi Those V8 guys think their fast with loud pipes but everyone knows your fast with this soundtrack.:boxing: :jester: Happy Thanksgiving everyone.:grouphug:
  20. Ian7, Here is the info you wanted. http://www.gatsbycars.com/woody.html
  21. I was going to put this pic over on the BEC section to show the progress but then ran across this post. Please excuse the "Rat rod" appearance, its being built outside and trying out different primers the metal sheets have to be shot on both sides to prevent rusting. The engine is a Buick 3.8lt Regal,non-turbo, with a.....wait for it........ automatic! The torgue off the bottom is amazing. I have an avi clip, its power braking around 1000rpm with the wheel spinning and with Cherry Bombs its quiet. The hoops are for the hard top and gull-wing doors, the styling might not be for everyone but every 7 fits their owners, no two a like. My car feels frantic all the time because of the R1 engine, but this one is the cruiser; heater, radio, NAV? planned. All parts are AutoZone friendly. Dad was so impressed with the Stalkers at the 50th meet, he decide to build his own but he wanted an everyday, all weather car. Victor, they are an impressive sum of parts and more drivable daily compared to a BEC. My personal opinion is the Westfield/Caterhams have a better fit-n-finish but if you put some personal time in like you did on your Alpina, beautiful car by the way, it should surpass them. I wouldn't be afraid to get a Stalker. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/899602422_20071121_IMG_0077 (Large).JPG

  23. I do not think you will have a problem making a half top and doors. I recommend the half doors as they become more useful for cooler weather driving. If I think its going to rain hard, I don't take the car out but I will if there is a slight chance. The top is also great if the temps are very hot and the sun is up to broil, the drive becomes tolerable. My half doors have 1/4" rod for shape, fabric sewn over it and 2 quarter turn and 2 snaps hold it in place. The top is more individual to the car. 7-12 snaps up front with a couple of straps pulling down the back. My light weight material needed a bar in back plus support between the windshield and rollbar(my material stretched and flapped at 35mph). A Sunbrella material would be great. I attached velcro on clear heavy-duty vinyl between the doors and top for the windows. I've used them a couple of times. Just some ideas for you. If you are unsure if you willl be able to get in and out of the car, throw a blanket over the windshield and rollbar and try it. If you can't, go do Pilates for 1 hour, get in the car or repeat till able. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1753169225_7pics 009 (Large).jpg
  24. Sunday it was 45 degrees and I ran 50 miles of rural Pa road. The Yoko 48s didn't slip in the cold, happy about that. It was only cold if I got side blasted from the wind, which happened a couple of times. My fingers got cold quick and I put on mittens for most of the ride. A scarf was invented for seveners, I have been using one all during the fall and it has made my world more enjoyable while driving. I love fall the most, especially when its leaving, ya know; raining, snowing and leaving. This was the strangest fall, the trees were all out of time. There were many green trees, many yellow and red, and many empty bare ones as well, but they would be among each other. I seen a 4 point buck in the middle of the day standing on the hill 20 feet from the road watching me drive by, I guess like most people he never seen a Seven before. The same goes for the Llama 2 miles down the road from me, didn't know that farm was there. My winter to-do list is short and the only manditory change is a diff pin that has to be changed for next year. Dad's locost 7 is driveable and the hood is made, so much for being a 2 year project. When finished it might not be called a seven, first hard-top with gull-wing doors, automatic and radio standard. I was doing some camera testing, hope you like the pics. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/29261590_IMG_1665 (Large).JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/75406524_IMG_1689 (Large).JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/491120539_IMG_1678 (Large).JPG
  25. Jean, I wanted to say THANK YOU for making these watches available to US Seven owners. I love the design. I would like to get more Seven inspired merchandise in the future. Please keep us posted if other stuff becomes available. The redline remark was a joke to the car engine guys, while their engines are out of breath, I'm just getting "on the cam". They can however make large burnouts and all I can do is make F1 sounds, its a trade-off I can live with. I agree with Martin about sending Mazda an extra $5-$10 for Web support and/or club use. The check is in the mail, if I knew where to send it.:bigears:
