Mazda, count me in. (1) men's watch I love the design but the RPM numbers only go to 8k, can I order the BEC one with numbers that go to 15k? It will match My car better :jester: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1471442906_2004-yam-r1-23.jpg

Dermot, Despite what I wrote before, I decided to keep them on and go back to my original 3.08 rearend. I adjusted the air pressure down to 17psi and the ride is tolerable. The light weight car helps with wear as I could run them many years. The change was very noticeable going from heavy slippery tires and wheels to light sticky ones. I called Diamond racing and ordered directly from them, cost was about the best I could find, might be able to find them cheaper, PM Jeff, he runs them too. I've never been able to make the 13" yokos slide on the street , the 14s would just brake away unexpectedly on eastern PA switchbacks. I don't race and haven't auto crossed it yet so my experience is limited. Our light cars affect tires different than others, you could also try a Formula Ford or Spec Racer Tire tire.

Thanks guys, I should be able to tilt it back a few more degrees. I like to shorten it about an inch which doesn't look to be a problem. The wipers are mounted on top like the series 1 and add 1" in height which in turn makes the windshield look a lot larger than it is. I need them for inspection and adds to the vintage flavor but might loose them for the rest of the year, I haven't decided yet. I appreciate the help.

This winters projects will include changing the windshield, corner glass cracked. I didn't like it from the day I put it on but size was determined by PENN DOT. It looks too tall and was more upright than I wanted, a couple of degrees and an inch here or there really messes up the lines. My windshield is at 68 degrees and at center from cowl to top of frame 15". 1" is for the top wiper mount that I might remove. Can someone give me their angle and height at center cowl to top of frame? Thanks.

Busa, It looks like a great setup to me. I seen English BEC setups this way and I wished I could have done mine like that but I couldn't(solid axle and no room). I have become use to not using the reverse, thinking first before pulling in. I don't think I've used mine a half dozen times this summer. The best part is not having to worry about leaky seals or a blown box leaving you along side the road.

Hi Busa, I been a little preoccupied, see picture. You have a 50/50 chance... it will or it won't. I think the AC clutch would hold up for AWHILE, its only going along for the ride so to speak. My concern is spool-up(rapid acceleration), plus the extra drag of the chain, sprockets and AC clutch. I personally don't like the always engaged(when your driving the sprockets and chain are turning). I think it could work but I like the picture you posted with the starter mounted near the diff, I'd make that plan A. I've seen pictures of English BECs that were similar. I'm going to invite someone from Yahoo Locost over here to share photos, he's building a BEC locost, in the same boat as us and from Pa. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/909077404_DS 026.jpg

Hi Busa, The starter is a great idea and is heavy duty. My winch inside is all aluminum gears. There are four gears; the one on the R1 output shaft and its mate are used camshaft gearset minus the chain. The crankshaft gear just happened to fit the R1s shaft. The other 2 gears from the jackshaft to the winch motor are from an old mountain bike gearset with a bicycle chain. I made it about 1:1 from the winch to jackshaft and the cam gearset is 3:1. I personally wouldn't build it this way again(a little to light) but it worked for my needs and PennDOT inspection. I have a picture of what you want to build but can't find it now. A 8" gear bolted to one half-shaft and a starter motor mounted on top of the diff unit is what I would build if I had the room and an independent rearend. If you look at my first post date about the reverse, you'll notice it was broke and repaired before the rally but while unloading the 7 from the trailer down south some errand teeth locked up the winch motor. I still drove 324 miles touring Tenn. and N.C. in 2 days but without reverse. I could get a reverse box but don't like the idea that all the hp has to be transfer through the box to the drive wheels, when it goes, your waiting for parts. When you make your system make sure that if it fails you don't need a flatbed. Check the U.K. forums for electric reverse and pics, they are years ahead of us. All my pics are blurry but I'll see what I can find.

Patrick, your car turned out great. I'm glad to see another BEC. The Rush-like headlights fit the car well. Its funny you should bring it up, dad and I just hung the rear axle this afternoon on his seven. A Donkervoort/Stalker, hard top with gull-wing doors, V6 and auto. It will be more angular and stealthy. I got the racer and he's building the cruiser.

Neil, I'm glad you posted over here and welcome to the forum. I wish to apologize for doubting your acomplishment, as you know everything on the internet is true. I congratulate you on building such a fast 7, its sounds like a world record holder to me once she's sorted out. If I didn't build mine a Westfield Megabusa was at the top of my list. I do have a question about the engine. Is it rebuilt after a couple of passes? I am amazed everything is holding up with 540hp including the tranny. It makes me want to turbo my R1. Please keep us updated, there are only maybe 10 BEC 7s in the U.S. and it would be nice if more of the brotherhood stopped by to say hi and chat a while.
-
:skep: I'll be the first to say it. I don't believe it.:skep: I believe he's got 350 hp and a Westfield Megabusa should run 10's with it. I remember a Rush busa-turbo that put out about 350hp and turbo kits for bikes say around 300 hp or so. I have a vid of a 1500cc turbo-busa Radical that set the track record at the Nurburgring and I believe it had about 350hp. Anythings possible but until someone posts a dyno run of the motor, then I will say I'm WRONG and GREAT JOB but until then...650hp:rolleyes:

When we returned from the rally, dad started talking about what he didn't like about my seven. The engine is to hyper, think Hammy from Over The Hedge. The width, which I agree could have been narrower and he wanted a fixxed hard top. He was impressed with the Stalkers but he wanted something different. It will be an all weather car with gull-wing doors. The engine will be from the 60 degree V-6 family with an AUTO tranny. Designs are being kicked around, like a series 4 to a more stealthy angular look. I hope it will be finished for the next big event, it won't be another 7 month build. I might put the build log on Locostusa. Houston we have a go for seven build #2. Notice big brother looking on. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1609815258_stlkr 003.jpg Hard top with integrated lights http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1320537438_1.jpg Door ideas http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1407855089_j25_latest_dev.jpg

Finished playing in the dirt with an Italian(Pasquali) girl. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1227041454_backhoe 013.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1077681517_backhoe 024.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1065499829_backhoe 027.jpg BTW: I got dimensions and prices for all major components for the next 7.

A couple of years before my BEC7 got built we were going to do some sewer digging(it never happened). We decided to build a mini backhoe and for future uses like building a house. Yesterday the gas crews were doing safety checks where dad was mig welding and found leakage enough to shut off the gas. So the digger was pulled out for landscaping and ditching today. Rain in the afternoon stopped us for a while. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1050399154_backhoe 006.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1380134043_backhoe 002.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2114101688_backhoe 012.jpg Wednesday might take a trip to pick-a-part, the family might be expecting another seven next year.:hurray: Details to follow...

Our goal was to have fun and enjoy our cars and each other. We didn't care if it was an orignal series 1 or a stick-built locost. I had an ice-cream dessert before the photo I believe with Dean and his wife(the '58 with no engine) discussing both his car and mine. That's what I like about the club. Before 7/7/7 I checked several Lotus sites/forums and Caterham event schedules in the US and I found no mention of our get together. I might have missed it but it looked like they were overlooking the event on purpose. Are the only real sevens the ones with Lotus on the hoods? Wait... were did I put that sticker. There are too few of us around here to segregate. "Can't we all just get along":smash:  To all the purist I've offended with my not original clubman, I apologize. :grouphug: I'm leaving the pulpit now. Did Al make me club chaplin when I said grace?:surprised:
-
Its nice to see our brothers across the pond enjoying their sevens like we did on that memorable day. :Hurray: I bet Lotus wasn't there because its not the OFFICIAL birthday of the 7. :cuss: They should get over themselves.

I'll pm you Mazda to schedule a ride. I'm house hunting now but I want to take the seven for a ride up to Chapmanville first. Hopefully I can get a few nice pictures. Thanks for the map, its nice to click a bubble and find out where people are located.

Thanks for the heads-up, I added it to my favorites. My engine isn't broken in yet but the clutch and sump has me thinking. The BECs over there are the only thing I'm jealous of the English, that and the fact you can drive your track car on the road.

I would like to do a Saturday ride with fellow seveners. The problem is we don't know were each others at. I'm near Pittsburgh, Pa. and figured about a 2 hour drive radius would be the longest I'd want to do in my seven. I thought each of us could meet half way. I want to travel mostly state roads and see the sights. Is there somebody in Ohio that knows some Amish towns to travel through, hopefully no further west than Canton? What about western N.Y., anyone want to ride through the Allegheny National Forest and see Kinzu? I think Raystown lake is the furthest east I'd like to travel and Morgantown/Cumberland the furthest south. Anyone know these areas? Mazda's trip is during my vacation and a longer distance than I'd like without a sag wagon and trailer. Let's get together for an early lunch, figure 4 hours riding around the area then head home. The reginal sections break up Ohio, Pa. and N.Y. even though we might be near each other, sorry for having to yell it out in the general section. I think with over 400 members somebody is close. Please post here to put your hand up then we can PM each other to hammer out the details. I believe Mazda will move this to the events section in a few days.:seeya: Frappr.com has a pushpin map for member groups, at least we would now were everyone is and how to contact them, just a thought.

USA7s at the Dragon Photo/Video Thread
andrew7 replied to Al N.'s topic in General Sevens Discussion
I didn't see anyone else mention this but go to http://www.zeefoto.com click on Deals Gap then Lotus 7 at Tapoco lodge. There are 181 pictures of us. There might be some dragon pictures in there, I just found it. I shouldn't pick on a sevener but you need a wider road or a narrower car. You oops in front of a camera on the Dragon. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1048246857_oops.jpg photo taken by http://www.zeefoto.com -
I agree Jordan you made a good point. I was concerned an out of balence driveshaft would cause an output shaft failure and "thought" the bike engine would spin the driveshaft up faster than a car engine. I now believe ALL driveshafts should be professionally balenced for safety.

Just a thought, but what about Biltmore house? 70 english cars in front of a castle sounds like it would be a nice picture. The ride out to it could be fun as well. Who's bringin the tarp for Mazda? Should it be green?
