mr.vman
I am considering and looking for an S4 Seven project or complete car. There is almost no information that I can find so far. Where to find Lotus S4 Seven information? Does the Lotus Seven manual also cover the S4? Does it include the workshop manual and parts list? Could there be an S4 site out there? I found some posts on, "Piston Heads". Redline in the UK has no windshield frames or seats. I have heard windshield frames are not available, is there a source and for seats? Thanks in advance, this should be a good start. Steve V. In Arizona
breezy7
Have you been to the simplesevens website? It covers all versions of 7s,a good place to start with a for sale section too. http://www.simplesevens.org
Paul Hill
Get Tony Ortenburger (?) s book. It has info on all models, decent chapters on the S4, plus maintenance tips and what to look for when buying any model. Been considered the "bible" from 1st printing, well worth whatever price you have to pay.
Croc
Its actually Dennis Ortenburger - Tony was his brother who ran a bratwurst and beers bar. http://www.amazon.com/Lotus-Seven-Independents-Dennis-Ortenburger/dp/1902351126 Tony Weale also wrote a good book that may be relevant: http://www.amazon.com/Lotus-Seven-Preparation-Restoration-Maintenance/dp/185532153X/ref=sr_1_16?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414744130&sr=1-16&keywords=lotus+seven
Paul Hill
Another indicator of my 62 yr old failing memory.... Thanks for setting me straight Croc. The Tony Weale book is the one I was referencing, very detailed on most models up to and including the first 15 yrs or so of Caterham. But I am sure most of the Lotus/Caterham faithful here are well aware. Info posted for the benefit of newbies and the uneducated Storker owners... ;-)
Blokko
Have you ever seen one "in the flesh"? I believe that fugly is the appropriate word
Paul Hill
A couple of phrases come to mind.... "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" "One man's junk is another man's treasure" There is a reason there are so many car companies, each with so many models. We don't all drive Chevs... Maybe everyone doesn't find your wife attractive, nor you the chick magnet you may think you are? I believe this forum is for ALL forms of the generic 7 style..... Kitcat
Agree with both Blokko and P Hill. There is a reason there are so many S3 clones and no S4 clones. But for the right person an S4 mite be perfect fit.
scannon
I used to think the S4 was ugly until I got a chance to inspect a couple of them up close. I missed a chance to buy one at a really low price but someone else in the Lotus club got to it first.
powderbrake
A couple S4's and an S1 or S2 ( forgive me for not beingable to identify the earliest s models) at the USA7s meet , 7/7/07 at the Tail of the Dragon. The S4's are merely "different"
mr.vman
Thanks for the response. I have been to Simple Sevens. What about the Seven Manual? Does it cover the S4 with parts and instructions? Redline appears to have no seats or windshield frame for the S4. Is there a source for these parts? Thanks mr.vman
Paul Hill
At the risk of repeating myself the best written material (far better than any manual) is Tony Weale's book. Parts such as seats, windshield, top, doors and fibreglass parts are going to be a challenge. I almost bought an S4 basketcase 10 yrs ago, walked away when no parts were available. Good luck... mr.vman
Paul, Thanks, found a manual. Amazon appears to have the Seven restoration book as well as several others vendors (not inexpensive). Windshield could be a challenge, it will be a challenge. Side windshield supports are on the car am looking at. Seats, Redline says no. I have several Europa seats, might take apart and copy the pattern and construction for my 6'2" body. If this happens. Any idea where the heater comes from? Looks like Spitfire? Been on Simple Seven site. Piston Heads site has some interesting posts on the S4. What about the instrument panel rocker switches? Any idea where they come from? Thanks mr.vman
Paul Hill
At this point you have exhausted my information. Switches and the like are anyone's guess. Keep us posted, you never know what obscure piece of info is lurking in the back of some lister's mind, just*waiting for the right question to trigger a memory. Blokko
I've seen more 21's than I've seen S4's. Here's a couple of pictures from a Taffia Blat from South Wales up to Portmeirion. The road in question is the Evo Triangle, as featured (not surprisingly) in Evo magazine (it is one of their main test routes) and Top Gear. The base of the triangle is dull, but the two sides are a great route to drive in a 7.
scannon
Those Brooklands Screens really look good on the S4.
Blokko
And a lack of a rollbar certainly makes it look different (never seen an S3 without one)
Croc
What about the instrument panel rocker switches? Any idea where they come from? Thanks mr.vman If you are trying to match up bits from British kit cars then the chances are you will find it here. http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/ Unfortunately it is in the UK but they do ship. Alternatively using what you information you find at CBS then you can use it to source the part in the US at a place like Moss Motors. http://www.mossmotors.com I am sure there are other places that forum members can recommend. mg2001mgardener
switches are from lotus Elan/Europa. Dave Bean has them. I "may" have a heater. I do have a stock roll bar and license plate/spare tire carrier.
