locost7018
I am in the process of putting a new Ford 1600 crossflow in my RHD locost seven and I would like to update my transmission. My existing tranny is a type 2 4 speed with integral bellhousing. The second gear syncro is bad. These trannys are very weak and were never imported to the US so I doubt any rebuild parts are available stateside. I have an extra tranny that appears to be a type 2 tranny from a Pinto/Capri (see page 114 of the Burton catalog http://www.burtonpower.com/eCatalogue/2014/index.html). The trouble is the starter and clutch cable are on the opposite sides from what I need. I have to have a bellhousing that has the starter on the left and the clutch cable on the right (no I can't use a hydraulic clutch without MAJOR remodel of my pedal box). Beer tokens await anyone that has the right bellhousing. Russ
coffee break
Check this link http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-category/transmission-clutch-wheels/bell-housings/bellhousing-rs2000-dual-lhd-rhd-bh3.html It looks like it gives you the option on which side the starter and clutch cable may be fitted. coffee break
Wow I never saw that. I wonder how bad frt. is going to be? I've gotten a few items imported and it is a lot higher then domestic rates. I would guess 75 to 100 pounds British Sterling. I have (I think) the same type 2 4 speed you have. My rebuilder couldn't find parts (syncros), but they weren't the problem. It was needle bearings between the input and main shaft that were bad. He located a 5 speed in Texas that could fit in, but it would require a bell housing. It totaled up to $4000. On top of that I would have to get the drive shaft modified along with the shift linkage. I passed on the swap. Edited December 13, 2014 by coffee break
escondidoron
I've purchased parts quite a few parts from the UK and haven't found the shipping and Customs to be too bad. The shipping cost (DHL I think, arranged by the seller in the UK) for an aluminum cylinder head for a Lotus 907 earlier this summer was about $100.00. Just for reference, here's a couple of pictures of the original 3-rail 'box and bellhousing that came in my RHD '62 Seven (the engine is a Cosworth 109E): The bell housing is almost identical to the Ford unit with 2 exceptions: 1) It's cast from Aluminum 2) The two ribs on the top of the bell housing are unique to this casting
lotusman1951
SPC is the source for Caterham/Westfield etc transmissions-I have bought transmissions from them for my brit cars-I am fairly sure they have the best chance of helping you with this issue. As they have helped me in the past
