S1Steve Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Can any of you LS engine owners help me identify this block. A friend said this block would be crazy in my S1. This kind of transplant would be a lot of work, as it would mean new trans, driveshaft and rearend. Plus a lot of engineering on my part to get all this to fit. If it will fit.... So I'll start off with what block I have.... Thanks Steve
xcarguy Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Steve, You have in your possession one 5.7 LS6 block……the same as in my Storker.
S1Steve Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Hi Shane, Thanks for helping me with identifying this block. It's a complete engine, that someone took apart to have a look at. Why you would take apart something that runs ok is something I don't get. I'll let you know how far this crazy idea goes. Hope all is great on your side, Steve
yellowss7 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Steve, just go buy a new Corvette. Don't chop up the S1. The hood scoop will be so high that it might even block your vision, although I guess you could raise the seats up with the room you have under your new roll hoop. :jester::seeya: Tom
xcarguy Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hi Shane, Thanks for helping me with identifying this block. It's a complete engine . . . . . Why you would take apart something that runs ok is something I don't get. Mine engine was running fine when I first took it apart.......more ponies was 'why'. And you are about to take apart a perfectly good running car bacasue . . . . ? :jester: You coiuld always buy astrobob's M-spec Storker, but an 'L'S1 would be much more unique. :Chevy_anim: If it helps, I'm considering more engine mods next winter......too much is nearly enough. Okay, time for you to get crazy . . . . . . . . . :lurk:

Okay, time for you to get crazy . . . . . . . . . :lurk: All excellent points !!!! All I said to a friend is, " That's a cool looking block" Next I know we're loading it up to my house.... I would really have to do Major surgery to the S1 and I don't think I could do that.. Storker ????????
speedwagon Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Steve, just go buy a new Corvette. Don't chop up the S1. The hood scoop will be so high that it might even block your vision, although I guess you could raise the seats up with the room you have under your new roll hoop. :jester::seeya: Tom Steve your s1 is in near stock shape and likely will be worth more as time goes on. My experience with one that came with a rotary and was slightly abused (more so now and also has cow hair embedded in the nose from attempted intercourse) is that even slight changes like upgrading to a turbo rotary is not easy in this car. I have to stay with the NA transmission because it barely fits, and mine already has a 10 bolt gm rear scabbed in. My initial investment is much less, body work was already needed, i enjoy the work, but it has been 2 years and not done. Just buy a Stalker or a similar well sorted car with a gm power plant. Or just take the ls and your Miata to flying miata.
scannon Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Or just take the ls and your Miata to flying miata. That's a good plan. Or you could take it to Flyin Miata and have them install it in one of their Exocets, they have just about completed one with an LS6 so they should have it all figured out by now.
Croc Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 A friend said this block would be crazy in my S1. Thanks Steve Wise man your friend. Call me a friend but I suggest you lay off the red pills and pornography!
