Road Ready
What do you guys wear on your heads when blasting around? I'm not talking track days, which of course have their own requirements, but, say, a morning on the Blue Ridge Parkway or suchlike? So far, my best solution has been a baseball-type cap tightened to the max and pulled down as far as it will go. I've tried a more purpose designed sun cap with a french foreign legion-like neck-cover but it was too unstable in the wind. I've seen a nice 'steampunk' WW1 pilot's cap and goggles, but the goggles wouldn't fit over my prescription shades. Otherwise, the retro look would work nicely, I think. Whatever advice you guys might have will come too late for my planned jaunt up the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Asheville tomorrow morning but I can't wait to hear. jlumba81
I drive with the doors on and a beanie or baseball cap stays on fine. I switch between the two depending on how high the sun is.

coffee break
Since I have no doors or other side wind deflecting items, I use goggles and a ball cap backwards or a leather WWI helmet. I got the goggles from Pegasus. They do have room for glasses. I also have a set of goggles bought from a Army/Navy store, they are MIL SPEC, the also have room for glasses. Goggles are a must for me, I'm always finding small gravel on the seat.
wemtd
Regardless of your head gear, ear protection is a must. (There are several old discussions on the topic)
ultraslow
Any cap with bill to the rear, in cold weather I use an Andean goatherd with the flaps. Also, wax ear plugs as the buffeting will damage your hearing. Stay warm.
powderbrake
I use over-the-glasses motocross goggles. This pic also shows the leather flying cap I use in cold weather. I am wearing a baseball cap under the flying cap, but no longer need that. I found that covering the top half of the goggles with black electrical tape does a great job of shading the eyes. I also have a baseball cap to which my wife attached an under-the-chin strap gastened together with velcro, but it has been supplanted by the tape on the goggles. DeanG
Floppy wide brimmed hat in the summer or a baseball cap with a keeper. When it gets cold I wear a full face helmet.
ropaSeven
I originally used an old black with red stitching quilted welders cap, until I left it on the back deck when filling with gas and it went flying somewhere in Wisconsin. Now I have a chefs hat with mesh/screen on top, which I asked a manager from a Bob Evans restaurant for. Yep, I'm cheap that way.
CASwede
Surfing caps work well with the doors off. Strap holds it on, ear covers protect against wind, and lightweight for hot summer days.

Jesse D
Anybody just drive with a helmet on? Solves all the problems and if you look like a fool, no one will know who the fool is.
jimrankin
I get too much turbulence for a standard baseball cap and have tried several options. If I'm driving only a short way I use a bandana but if it's a longer trip where I need more sun protection I use a baseball cap I modified by cutting the bill down to only about 2 1/2". Looks like the hats that they use when riding horses. it covers the area between my forehead and my sunglasses so no glare to the eyes and it does a pretty good job for protecting my nose and face without getting blown all over by the wind. It also looks pretty "normal" compared to a helmet. I have an O'Neil surf cap with short bill that is good for colder weather but becomes a bit uncomfortable if the least bit warm or on too long. The cut down bill baseball cap has been my favorite for quite some time.
slomove
For hot and moderate days I have the "Sun Runner Cap" to protect the neck and ears from sun but I tie the chin strap behind the neck to keep it more open and not obstruct the side view. I can wear such a cap because I have wide Lexan half doors that get the turbulence out of the cockpit. For really cold days I have one of the Russian style winter hats. http://www.outdoorresearch.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/470x500/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/80610_800.jpg Edited July 22, 2015 by slomove
jimrankin
I had to go out to look at the hat as I wasn't sure about the bill length. Turns out its only 1 1/2" long. With the ear protection on over the hat its stable to over 100 MPH, personally tested :driving:
