Old Guy, Here is my New Vette

Recommended Posts

Man, that is a nice looking 'Vette A-Bob! As a fellow old-guy, I like the C7 more than the C8 and now is apparently a good time to purchase a C7.

Hey Croc, I like it so much maybe I will buy it from him in 6 months:)!

I have to say tho, that my wife would never get in a Corvette, just as she has never gotten in my se7en over 12 years of ownership. Luckily, she doesn't care what I buy as long as she doesn't have to ride in it!

Kitcat, Even though I think my se7ens days have run their course, I am going to hang around here for years and years with this red corvette (my wife just played me the Prince version of Red Corvette). Of course, I am addicted to Croc's Sunday finds even though Elvis may have left the building.

My wife had only ridden in one of my sevenesque cars once, but tonight, we cruised around my neighborhood and even listened to some cool tunes on the 10 speaker Bose audio system. Can't say as I remember listening to anything but the sweet sound of my engines, supercharger and mufflers on sevens which was great for me but did not seem to impress her in a positive way. Vette A-Bob (catchy name for us Southerners or at least people that live in the South).

Bob, great looking car....let me know when you, Less, Pee Wee and Mr. Bill are ready to trade. The multicolored beast has 575 at the flywheel. :jester:

Shane, I can only drive slow cars now according to my wife who says I have been slow all my life? Is your Stalker sporting a souped up LS7 engine? Less and Pee Wee are digging the air conditioning. Mr. Bill just keeps shouting "Oh nooooo!".

Astro Bob:

Great looking vette, I believe it is Torch Red.

I agree, it's heavy compared to a Seven, but it sure is a lot more comfortable and it is better for travel.

I frequently take my Torch Red vette convertible on long trips, (did a 5400 mile blat this summer) and I love it, but.... I miss my seven. Not sorry I sold the seven, just miss it.

Two words - air conditioning. Getting too old for the heat and sun myself

Mondo, I grew up in the San Fernando Valley of LA and never thought a thing about the heat but I was also maybe 60 years younger. I also know that other than the Valley Fog, Bakersfield could get even more sweltering at times because the San Gabriel mountains would block the ocean breezes. You are correct about the A/C issue. Here in Florida, add a day with a dew point exceeding 75 and your skin loses its ability to cool off in direct sunlight.

I will love being able to take off the carbon-fiber bikini top (and actually stow it in a clever locking holder under the rear hatch) on beautiful days but basically leave it on unless the weather is truly pleasant. In my sevenesque cars including one Caterham r300 Superlight, the cockpit temps were practically unbearable during our hot Summer months and the hot parts of Spring and Fall.

Oh, did I mention the 9-speaker Bose stereo in the new car? These manufacturers seem to keep upping the ante in terms of sound quality in basically fairly noisy cars. The real bottom line is that now my wife will go on trips with me. I even purchased a 5-piece matching luggage set yesterday with matching Corvette logos to keep my sweetie happy on some fun-filled blats around the countryside. Don't know where I would or could have put those things in my se7ens? "Sweetie, could you hold this soft duffle bag of our clothes and stuff in your lap while strapped into our 5-point harnesses while we jazz around the countryside?" Clearly headed in a different direction in terms of performance vehicles :auto:

However, as we all know, there are very few cars that can provide the incredible raw visceral experiences of our sevens and I am truly grateful for the 5 years that I enjoyed these cars.

Bob, I have both a C6 Vette coupe and a turbocharged Legacy SuperStalker. Wife likes both but prefers the C6 when it's too hot or too cold or if we are going on long trips. Good choice but you need to get another Se7en. You are not too old even when you are in your seventies. I am 75.
