Oil???

I've heard a lot of good things about Driven Racing Oil HR which was designed for older engines that are driven intermittently. It's available in both dyno and synthetic. I have some of the dyno oil in the garage ready to go in the Elan as soon as I have time for an oil change.

Brad Penn and Redline are the stateside recommendations I've gotten over the years for my Elan, both have plenty of zddp and are considered top end. Both are expensive, but I figure it is worth it for these old engines. I'm currently using Redline 20W50 for the twink in my Elan, planning the same for the Seven (pre-crossflow).

I've used Castrol GTX 10w-40 and/or oil recomended for diesel motors which have zinc additives.

In my application, having the proper oil level is important. The motor leaks some.

I'm a goldylocks driver, as long as its not too hot or not too cold I'll take the car out, and its kept inside a conditioned garage. So the oil isn't getting much of a workout.

Many thanks to all for your responses. This gives me a lot to think about, but they are all of the same vein. I've got a dry sump on my car which means buying 7 quarts, so I just wanted to be right the first time. Wish I could still get Castrol XLR 20w-50 like I ran in my Mini; but that was a long time ago.

Cheers, Kato
